Dec 16, 2011 Climate: CRU Climate: other My view of yesterday's raid on Tallbloke Towers is that it is a storm in a teacup. Aware of the new disclosures, it was necessary for the police in the UK to see if they could get any new leads from RC's electronic trail. They were preposterously heavy-handed of course, but it seems clear that Tallbloke is not a suspect. Reactions by those who think this is the start of a war on sceptics seem overwrought to me, although perhaps not quite as daft as those who seem to think that Tallbloke is RC.
However, the involvement of the police does seem to have ramped things up a notch or two. Some people have been prompted to think much harder about legal avenues, in particular Christopher Monckton, who seems to think that a charge of fraud can be made to stick against the denizens of CRU. I can't see it myself, but I will watch with interest.
Meanwhile, SM notes that the police who raided Tallbloke may be on dodgy legal ground.

Skiphil, "one of the most prominent" is not how I'd rate Markey - better, maybe one of most thoughtlessly liberal, in the mold of Barbara Boxer, similarly persuaded.
He had a recent seance via a committee he chairs to alert us all to the impending hazards of climate change, and according to story reported at WUWT, no-one came.

I did not at all mean "prominent" with the connotations of someone worthy of most respect. In Markey's case I mean it mainly as "one who yells and shrieks and gets a lot of media ink and attention."
I agree with what you say, and perhaps I should have used words such as "notorious" and "scandalous" and "demented" with regard to Markey.
Still, he does get his name and words into the media a lot, and gets a lot more of a hearing from the media than DC pols not on the CAGW bandwagon.

Look Norfolk Plod could have just asked him to provide what he had. I doubt Roger would have been anything but cooperative.
As of yet there has been NO firm evidence released that this was a hack rather than a leak.
On that basis where were the grounds for insituting a search and siezure process.
Lets be blunt how many others have downloaded this information for review and comment?
Is simple possesion of the archives grounds for a raid? Are Climate realists now viewed as "terrorist suspects"?
If it ultimately transpires that this was a leak by someine internal, then how will we view what has taken place at tallbloke towers?
Dark day for our freedoms imho and definitely not a "Storm in a teacup"!
