In the early hours of Friday, Mr Van Rompuy, wrote in a tweet: "Deal! At least 40% emissions cut by 2030. World's most ambitious, cost-effective, fair #EU2030 climate energy policy agreed."
The EU also agreed to boost the use of renewable energy to 27% in the total energy mix and increase energy efficiency to at least 27%.
Van Rompuy is also reported as saying that this decision is “about survival”, and unsurprisingly the environmentalists were less happy about the latest proposals.

TOO LATE. I saw harribin's crap before coming here. Worse still was yesterday's declaration by 50 CEOs that europe wasn't going fast enough. The CEO of Phillips declared they (the EU) could do more "look at the technology like LED bulbs".

Well, he would say that, wouldn't he? Have you seen the price of LED bulbs? Me? They are too harsh. We've stocked up on good old incandescent and hopefully have enough for years.

Marxism became Cultural Marxism, and Gramsci's "Long march through the institutions" started. Now, the public sector in the UK is infested with the truly nasty Leftism that now plagues our times. Giving us political correctness, equality legislation - because we are all the same and diversity legislation - because we are all different. Go to Sweden, Denmark or Austria and criticise Islam and it is a crime. Here, you just get reviled.

Best I can figure is that if Europe is leading the world down a road, it has to be a road where the average family of 4 live in a 30 sq m space - won't dignify it with a word like an apartment though compartment might work - and eats algae gruel for meals. Each day they will have one candle, approximately the size of the average little finger, and when it gets too dark to see by the single quadruple pane window, they can use the candle for light. When the candle goes out, they can bundle into their sleeping bags and hope the candle gave enough heat to keep the chill out since there will be no heat available - a second candle would contribute too much carbon dioxide to the world.
Now the elite family will continue to live in their drafty castles and probably draw a tax subsidy to help pay for the extra heat needed to keep them warm. Eventually, of course, the poor will die out and that is, after all, the reason for the push to decarbonize in the first place, to get rid of the useless people that only use resources that the elite can enjoy.
The European Union should spend more money on research into perpetual motion. Think how useful it would be. It would solve our energy problems and would prevent climate change since there would be no need to increase CO2 emissions since there would be no need to generate any new power. Scientists will say that perpetual motion is against the 2nd law of thermodynamics, but so what? EU bureaucrats are used to ignoring laws when it suits them. All that is needed is to throw money at the problem.
Even if the scientists and engineers aren't bright enough to find a solution that will be nothing to worry about. The EU does not solve many problems but it still goes marching on!

It is way past the time that, the nation woke up to the facts of it. The political elite [whosoever you place a cross by], have been leading us up blind alleys for decades - down into the EU for one. By spraying with taxpayers monies, an ever expanding client state, not satisfied with doling munificence to our own work shy, it seems that TPTB now want to spread the largesse to the rest of the world's poor, the only problem with that is - they have never ever at any point brought the people into the consultation.
Now, with the nation piling up debt beyond anything we could ever imagine at thereabouts of £1.4 trillion. These same financial illiterates, wish us to cripple what's left of our manufacturing sector and stuff our future chances of ever paying off this vast National Debt, plus in the meantime saddling the domestic consumer with ever steepening energy costs for an a diminishing service and stricture of supply - are we mad?
We must be stupid. so stupid - to have allowed it to go on this long.
What I do know is this, it isn't going to go on for much longer, not before time the taxpayer gravy train will be permanently shunted into a siding and then sold off to pay off the national debt.
Some years ago when I relocated from NZ to the UK to finish my teaching career, I was informed by a colleague that I must not attempt to solve any problems I encountered in the classroom; the proper practice in the UK was to observe the problem carefully, define it accurately, then write a report to my superiors in the appropriate Ministry. At that point I could perform my professional duties secure in the knowledge that that some other person would solve the problem in the fullness of time and that I would not be thanked for attempting to solve any problems I may encounter as that was not within my remit. The Colonial habit of problem-solving at source , I was told, is not tolerated in any shape or form.

No one seems obligated to actually do anything, it seems like they've kicked it into 'the long grass' to see what happens. If we don't see any rise in temps over the next few years it will all quietly be forgotten and will never have happened.
The insanity of the goal is what is interesting. The goal is completely unattainable unless the people who live in the EU are suffering in ways unheard of. The highly urbanized EU cannot be working well if this CO2 goal is met. Transportation, electricity availability, farmland, and food will all be curtailed. There will be many fewer jobs.
The best you in the EU can hope for is that these are faux goals. Unless there is a general economic collapse and no recovery the goals cannot be met.
The EU leaders are fools. Best to take matters into your own hands now, and save your family yourself. Get out while you can. The picture alone on the linked page, should be enough to scare anybody.
