By the numbers open thread

This is an open thread for anyone who wants to discuss Climate Change by the Numbers. I'll set some thoughts down in the morning.

Readers may also be interested in the post-match thoughts of one of the presenters, Norman Fenton.

" (I strongly suspect the BBC will ignore rumblings unless there is actually a
direct complaint)."

Why can't the BBC just get some decent scientists involved and make decent science programmes, surely it is in their remit. As you clearly point out they keep getting the content seemingly provided by politically minded people rather than scientists painstakingly just doing research looking for 'the truth'

Form the linked blog there are a list of things they didn't have time to discuss in the programme:

Any real details of the underlying statistical methods and assumptions.
For example, there has been controversy about the way a method called principal component analysis was used to create the famous hockey stick graph that appeared in previous IPCC reports.
Although the problems with that method were recognised it is not obvious how or if they have been avoided in the most recent analyses.

Wouldn't it be interesting and surprising to viewers to see a discussion of the iconic Hockeystick graph and the fact that the current models are still flawed in the same way?

But I guess that's why I'm not a BBC editor.

The appalling thing is that some politicians don't believe in the guff but are frightened to say so. If they did but know a lot of the public don't either but they are given no lead.
