The folks at Balcombe were thrown into this mess and now have to deal with it. It is easy to criticize them from afar.
So a crowdfunding campaign got them a break. Good for them.
It makes no difference in the large scheme of things. Let them be.

Fox News this evening had a report concerning a school that just ripped out solar panels installed 2 years ago costing millions, that was never put into operation (!) in order to make room for parking.

KuhnKat, some people believe everything they are told by sales reps. Clearly teacher training offers no immunity to green infectious gullibility, and green infectious gullibility is easily transmitted to those who are particularly vulnerable. Those considered to be at highest risk include school children, their parents, and school governors. Teachers, parents and governors are all in positions where they can be held legally liable for exposing school children to unnecessary harm.

That sounds commendable. So just when are they going to include the cars they use to get to and from school, to and from work, and the planes they use to go on the nice holidays abroad?
As usual, it's likely to be limited to a statement that doesn't have any real impact on their daily lives, or involve any kind of personal sacrifice. The sacrifice goes to others who are priced out of affordable fuel.
Interesting news from a test well near Gatwick.....the company estimates around 150m barrels of oil per square mile under the Weald and they stated that it is held in fractured formations which would allow conventional extraction. Obviously only a small portion could be extracted - with current techniques - but it is still an enormous potential.
Maybe they need to have another go at that well in Balcombe....??

As an aside, to be challenged and censured does not necessarily make you wrong; remember, many of the greatest minds that we celebrate today were also seriously challenged and censured by their peers, the press and the populace of their time.

Correction - 158 million barrels per square mile plus a possible 80 million barrels. Total reservoir volume 100 billion barrels!!.
Quite amazed that the media is going on about the Gatwick oil find and how it's great that it wouldn't require fracking.
Fracking has no significant effect on anything at surface and it is of no consequence whether the wells would require fracking to complete or not. They're so deep in anti-science hysteria that they don't even know what the technical issues are.
The announcement has caused a great spike in UKOG's shares but that might be all that comes of it. We shall see, unless drilling is obstructed by reactionary lunatics again.

Common Core (education standards) here in the US is being used with the latter techniques (even though the standards themselves are not directly about any sort of ideological mindset). Socialists (cannot recall the actual source) figured out a long time ago that a few minor modifications to the public education system would result in a bevy of little socialists instead of capitalists. It is working. And they don't even know it. See the last two US Presidential elections for confirmation - people still actually argue that he is a capitalist. With your religious experience, you knew what was going on, and were able to dodge the message.
