Discussion > Prince Charles's financial conflict of interest re windfarms

Allegation is that Prince Charles will never say anything bad about windfarms, cos it would diminish his income when he becomes king.
"From 1 April 2012, under the terms of the Sovereign Grant Act 2011 (SSG), the Civil List was abolished, and in the future each monarch will receive from the Treasury a stipulated percentage of the Crown Estate's annual net revenue (currently set at 15%)" ..and much of the sea rights for windfarms are controlled by the Crown estate.

Prince Chuckles must be a very happy bunny, whereas I am most certainly not!

Happy and glorious year for the Crown Estate

" Record returns for the Queen's Crown Estate were driven by high demand for West End commercial developments and off-shore wind farms
......The Crown Estate is also manager of much of the country’s coastline and seabed, and this year opened one of the world’s largest offshore wind farms, London Array. Investment into this form of renewable energy generated over £15m of revenue over the last 12 months, up 46pc on 2013. “We will look back on 2013 as a landmark year for our offshore wind portfolio,” said Ms Nimmo.

The company is also co-investing up to £100m to improve a range of renewable energy projects in Britain....." Telegraph

All join in with the chorus - "Were all in it together"!

- The Duchy of Cornwall is Charles purse ..so it would be interesting to see what subsidy/benefits it receives from 'green' policies

Greensand quotes 2010 Daily Mail article

One's in the money! Why Prince Charles's secret 20-year campaign could make him the richest king in history

" .....So just how did this hugely significant development in royal financing come about?
Step forward the Prince of Wales, whose constant stream of handwritten letters to Government ministers urging them to consider various issues are known in Westminster as ‘black spider’ memos.

For Charles, the Chancellor’s announcement was the culmination of a personal campaign he has waged for more than 20 years..."

GS adds
" @GS Cheers mate
but do I stand corrected ?."
Meant as an explanation, not a correction, my ref to Chuckles is because he has been campaigning for decades to maximise the amount of the Crown Estate spoils the Monarch receives. Therefore logical that improved profits will please the heir?

Exactly at it for years, before the 2010 law change and what difference does it make that a 70 year old man may have a £55m income vs a £45m ?
So to me it's not like those MPs on House of Commons committee s who have a direct link to Green Energy biz.

However it shows the need to ditch the monarchy

Charles has clearly broken his terms of employment "don't get involved in politics"
The Queen follows the rules therefore we don't know what she thinks about green issues.
But with Charles it's like the Green Party have a taxpayer funded public spokesman, and other parties not, therefore it's a usurping of democratic process.
Probably illegal under European law etc.

By coincidence coming Sunday on Radio 4 prog The Royal Activist Sunday 13:30

In the 45 years since his investiture as Prince of Wales, Charles has created a unique role and career for himself as an activist on behalf of many causes. But is this activism compatible with the position of King? In Britain's constitutional monarchy, can Prince Charles remain an outspoken and passionate campaigner as he nears the throne, or should we expect a different style of monarchy in future, with a Royal Activist on the throne?
Elinor Goodman hears from close friends and colleagues of the Prince, as well as senior politicians with experience of how Prince Charles operates in Whitehall and beyond. Producer: Jonathan Brunert

"The company is also co-investing up to £100m to improve a range of renewable energy projects in Britain"
This is what I have a problem with..Its one thing to accept subsidies/prifits from windfarm projects the givernment has promoted on land that you control, but it's another to eco-evangelise with money that would have otherwise gone to other places. Why is one part of gov borrowing money, cos it overspends, yet another part is investing in renewables casino ? Surely that Crown Estate surplus should go into the taxpayer pot, and prince Charles green mates can invest their own private money in windfarms ?

In terms of Charlie boy's carbon footprint - given his well documented profligacy - I'd wager that those "black spider memo" documents are each hand delivered by a separate flunky solely tasked with the deed...

I just have this image of his emails being delivered by a liveried flunky on a silver salver with the silver cloche being removed with flourish and fawning....

While I loath the man, I have no doubt he believes that CO2 must be cut and windmills will do it. He's far from being the sharpest pencil in the box and is self centrered enough to think he's entitled to a massive carbon footprint while the rest of us buckle paying for windmills. He's doing us a favour dontcha know! He'd cry 'let them eat cake' so long as it was a Dutchy Original.

During his speech to the Science Museum's senior staff and sponsors of the new exhibition space, the heir to the throne said 'climate science has taken a battering of late'.

For that reason in January he visited the University of East Anglia's School of Environmental Sciences which has the Prince as its patron and is home to the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) - the department at the centre of the Climategate row.

Charles added: 'I wanted to discuss with them the appalling treatment they had endured during the so-called Climategate row because, as they reminded me, the University of East Anglia is not a campaigning NGO, nor an industry lobby group.

'It is an academic institution working to understand precisely and dispassionately what is happening to our world; to separate the facts from the fiction and build the sum of human knowledge on the one issue that could very well balloon into the cause of our downfall.'

The Climategate row was sparked when emails from CRU scientists were hacked and released online last year.

From former colleagues who have been involved in meetings with Chucky and his staff, he is surrounded by professional sycophants who slap their thighs in apparently uncontrollable mirth at his slightest witticism and shield him from the slightest embarrassement - for example, concealing from him that he has delayed the start of a lunch.

In such a milieu, it's not surprising that his view of the world is...strange.

As he has aired his opinion that I and many others like me are idiots. I'll just air my opinion that I feel the same way about him.

Daily Mail 31 January 2014

Climate change deniers are headless chickens, Prince Charles has claimed.

In an inflammatory speech, the heir to the throne spoke out against “the barrage of sheer intimidation” from what he described as powerful interest groups.

Addressing young environmental entrepreneurs at Buckingham Palace, he said skeptics were turning accepted scientific wisdom on its head. "So, thank goodness for our young entrepreneurs here this evening, who have the far-sightedness and confidence in what they know is happening to ignore the headless chicken brigade and do something practical to help."

Charles has long led the public charge against global warming—despite repeated warnings about his “meddling” in contentious global issues. His “headless chickens” jibe ranks among his strongest comments yet.

Benny Peiser, of the climate-skeptic Global Warming Policy Foundation, described the attack as aggressive and contentious. …

Wind Turbines v Nuclear

Jun 26, 2014 at 6:23 PM | Unregistered CommenterSandyS

SandyS,

At the present time, all the 5,276* wind turbines in the UK are delivering 720MW (according to http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/ ). Less than a single nuclear power station.

let's not forget that David Cameron's father-in-law is raking in huge amounts from windvfarms:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2027708/Samantha-Camerons-father-nets-350-000-year-subsidised-wind-farm.html

The UK's ruling elites (like Al Gore, et al.) are nevk deep in squalid conflict-of-interest issues wrt CO2 hysteria and Green energy.

The relevant issue is not whether they are sincere in their concerns for the planet (let us assume they all are, for this discussion).

The issue is that specific policies and programs they support and enact enrich themselves and/or their relatives.

I have been monitoring both France and the UK intermittently for the last few days. Barely gone above 2GW combined most of the time.

Slightly O/T but the Aeolian data for Limousin is a 'secret statistique'. not sure what that means.

SandyS - yes;

Former environment Minister Michael Meacher said he and the Charles “would consort together quietly” to affect policy on climate change and genetically modified crops.

“I knew that he largely agreed with me and he knew that I largely agreed with him,” said Mr Meacher.

“We were together in trying to persuade Tony Blair to change course.”

In the Australian referendum some years ago to become a republic I voted no. Basically for historical reasons and if it aint broke why fix it. However if Chuck takes over the rei(g)ns my vote will change. He's a tree hugging fruitcase pure and simple and unworthy of what, by and large, should be a neutral position. I don't know if it's possible but EIIR could do worse than skip a generation. Appoint him as her special emissary for climate change organics.

Or something.

What's all the fuss about? It's not like he had Jimmy Saville as a "special advisor" is it?

It could be worse, imagine how foolish it would have been to put in writing his thanks to Jimmy Saville.
