Discussion > 2015 Log of BBC Climate Bias

As I mentioned before the bias is so prolific it is impossible to keep up.
With certain key Eco-warrior staff feeling obliged feeling obliged to throw off all pretence of balance as they fight a phantom force to save the world.

- I just found this News-Watch.co.uk article HALL’S BBC EXECUTIVE BOARD CLIMATE CHANGE LINKS
BBC CHAIRMAN, BBC TRUST, CLIMATE CHANGE | 7TH SEPTEMBER 2014

.. I add in extra info and summarise thus the Climate Change Bias of The BBC executive management board
1: Helen Boaden : instigated 28 Gate the BBC Climate Change Propaganda Strategy meeting and cover-up
2: Dame Fiona Reynolds is a former Director General of the National Trust
3: Simon Burke, director of the Co-op Food division. (who fund anti-fracking film shows)
4: Alice Perkins is married to Jack Straw MP.
5: Sir Howard Stringer : a very public obsession pursuing climate change alarmism. (Under his leadership, Sony got into bed very firmly with all the usual eco militants in leading the charge towards a 50% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, and he is a platform speaker at climate alarmist events such as this. This adulatory piece in the BBC’s house journal The Guardian says it all.)
6: Sir Nicholas Hytner created the 2011 Climate Change propaganda play Greenland "A climate-change play at the National fails to either inform” TimesHE :

It isn’t just the bias in the BBC that I find so irritating, it is the hyperbole. Did you know that Dewsbury is a town “reeling” from the news that two of its teenagers have bunked off to join ISIS? A more historical example was the news a few years ago of an explosion that “ripped” through Immingham refinery; it turned out that it was a junction box that went “Bang!” and caused a little smoke.

The bias of the BBC was revealed to me when Kate Adie reported on the bombing of Libya in the 1980s, as she skilfully inserted political opinion (hers? or the BBC’s? Who knows?) into her factual reports. There followed the gloating over the shenanigans of Mellor & co in the 1990s; but, while their indiscretions were of little cost to the tax-payer, Cooke’s hanky-panky post-1997 was well-funded by the tax-payer, as he cut short a state visit to India, with an early flight home to be with his paramour – this deed, however, was given what the BBC obviously considered to be a plausible excuse, as they provided it, on prime-time news!

Now, as we all know, any natural “disaster” (even if it isn’t actually a disaster) is the result of, well, you know… Any lack of extreme (itself an extreme, but let’s not go there) or benefit is either ignored or glossed over. I like to think that this is becoming more and more obvious, but such is the general dumbing down of the populace (witness some of the trolls on this site, as well as those more actively engaged “in the field” with greenpeas, FOE, anti-fracking, etc.) I do seriously wonder if my hopes are to be dashed.

This is the BBC's idea of fairness and objectivity
As soon as the Weald oil find story comes up
The 1pm R4 News gave 4 mins to an Anti-fracking protestor
and then 2 mins of science

Yet the BBC rule is that Lord Lawson who is an expert on Climate Change issues having written books about it, is not allowed to be on the same segment as a Scientist (read an eco-warrior scientist that a BBC eco-warrior stff member will already know). "No False Balance" is shouted as an excuse for no proper objectivity at all.

The biggest evidence of BBC (and other outlets) bias regarding climate is the dog that does not bark:
Practically no stories on climate consensus failures. No stories on problems with wind output vs. wind stated power rating. No stories on failed predictions of gloom. No coverage of the prominent scientists who do not support the consensus. No stories of historical averages. No stories of money and management issues within the consensus institutions. Etc.

"Seattle in Arctic drilling protest" claims the BBC on their Envi-SciFi page. A standard BBC approach. What they really meant, and indicate in the movie when you click on the story, was some people in Seattle.

The story is another green classic: A bunch of people in plastic boats, canoes etc, paddled together to complain about drilling for oil. Which is used to make their plastic canoes, paddles, waterproofs and lifesaving equipment.

The BBC hasn't noticed the irony/hypocrisy either.

@MH WUWT has good photos of the Hypocrisy in Seattle

BTW The BBC WS has a show Over to You of BBC listeners comments and complaints : I just listened , bizarrely they didn't mentioned how for the last 2 months they'd called the wrong result, no rather the show seemed to be about how great the coverage was ...What no one complained ?
...All the commenters they aired feared the Conservative government.

PS Over at Tallblokes he just reprinted Booker's old article from March
and some commenters mentioned the Sky At Nights CO2 con experiment

Over in Australia on ABC's Radio their climate loony leader went on a binge on 7 March 2015 (the linked ABC pages have both transcript and comments)
1. Photographs shine a light on the changing climate (..It's radio but he'll run any Climate alarmism story)
2. Attacks on hockey stick graph tracked to those whose interests are threatened **
3. Merchants of Doubt
4. Scientists kept from their work by FOI requests
Some people use open records laws (freedom of information) to harass university scientists. (He doesn't mention Willy Soon of course cos he works for the "bad guys"

also 16th May
New rules muzzle UK government scientists
"Robyn Williams: I thought there would be an uproar and things would be changed.
Philip Campbell: That's right. So there has been an uproar" ..really was there ?

** look how Williams spoke "Robyn Williams: Yes, the last time I looked at the income of the Koch brothers, I think in one year their income went up £32 billion, that's $64 billion, which is staggering. " yes instead of showing ANY evidence that Koch recently gave any money ..he just insinuates the biggest possible number he can think of ..The shamelessness of a cult member.

- God there are even more Climate Alarmist or pro green energy items in Feb and Jan programmes.

2016 - 2 stories of bias in BBC From Our Own Correspondent

\\This morning’s ‘From Our Own (biased) Correspondent’ managed to slip in an unproven assertion that this year’s El Nino was being amplified by man-made global warming and how wonderful Detroit is now that they make bicycles there instead of cars. //(Steve Jones on BBBC)
The reporter was Sally Kettle 25/02/201

The big problem is she misled by the way she reads stuff out as if it were a hundred percent fact, when she should include her source and quote doubt.

audio The reporter was Sally Kettle 25/02/201
Some fear by the end of the year their will be no little deal pups
.. El Nino's occur every 2 to 7 years
..In El Nino December the islands can expect upto 15 times as much rain
..plant growth explodes
..but for sea life the effect is likely to be CATASTROPHIC
...
Galapagos penguin... fear they could be pushed to extinction.
(However she ends by playing down the hype)
..An Island that has extraordinary changes to come has weathered plenty in the past
Her written news report Is the Pacific too warm for Galapagos sea lions?

A BBC 'reporter' laments that Climate Change hasn't been dealt with cos of lobbying money.
Is this reporting or campaigning ? : This FOOC seg seems like a Party Political Advert for the Democratic Party

audio FOOC 20/02/201 Robert Hodierne :
In the last 2 years the NRA has spent NEARLY $30m lobbying lawmakers *
...
Gun deaths have almost doubled since 1960 in the last and kill more than traffic accidents **

"With Republicans.. firmly in control of both houses of Congress ..tightening of gun laws seems unlikely "
"It's all about money" "If America were to limit the role that money plays in electing public officials. a wide away of issues with wide public support would be dealt with.
Everything from Climate Change, to Health Care, to guns !

STOP right there ... "all about money" They control both houses of Congress cos they were democratically elected ..their policy is NOT "all about money" it's democracy

* "NEARLY $30m lobbying" over 2 years that doesn't seem a huge amount of money...when the big Green NGO's spend magnitudes more on lobbying ..So why doesn't he consider their role ?
** Lie by omission - #1 Relevant number is per head of population, not absolute number. Why ? cos since 1960 population has also almost doubled (up 77%)
#2 The context is the increase in suicides. The gun deaths are mostly not the shootings of the public you might think, but MALES using it as their preferred method of suicide. (Control male suicide and gun deaths would drop)

oops "wide away of issues" = "wide ARRAY of issues"

Alan Kendall chided us (gently, I know, Alan) for not keeping up to speed with criticisms of the BBC.
So in the spirit of bookkeeping, as mentioned on another thread, I post a link Paul Homewood's criticism of a recent BBC advertorial for global-warming, spotted by Stewgreen, who has more tolerance than I for such things.
"We’re All Going To Drown – BBC"

Please read the "Shocking email leak" discussion thread where there is a more nuanced debate.

I will not be contributing here. I am fully aware of the BBC's deficiencies regarding its climate and environmental coverage. I do not believe listing them serves any purpose other than to provide fuel for those who wish the corporation harm.

Why pick on the BBC alone? Other broadcasters show similar behaviours.

Because, as is pointed out repeatedly on the other threads, the BBC is not a private company. They are a (nationally and globally) very influential public service broadcaster with a very large budget. But with that privileged position comes explicit requirements regarding impartiality etc etc. They are in flagrant breach of those requirements. I want that fixed. I think it is important. The BBC, and the BBC Trust, appears immune to reasoned arguments or complaints in this respect. It seems government action is required.

Some at the BBC would almost certainly find the appropriate medicine unpleasant. Whether that counts as me wishing the corporation harm, is irrelevant. I actually suspect that only a very few rolling heads would fix the matter. For comparison, and whilst not not wanting to express a public position on the general politics of the Middle-East/Israel/Palestine region, I note that BBC reporting on that topic seems to have become more restrained and factual in recent years. Like they are trying to play it with a straight(er) bat. Clearly someone, somewhere, has had a word. The BBC took note, and doesn't appear any more damaged than they are damaging themselves (in my eyes) with their far more naked support for the politics of global-warming. Perhaps they thought "Oh goody, here is something we can get all political about, and nobody will care." Well, some people really do care, and not in the way they fondly imagine.

Changing the Climate
Something Understood
Sunday | 23:30 | BBC RADIO 4

Mark Tully asks if climate change offers an opportunity for us to improve our lives – not just by consuming less and respecting nature more, but by finding a deeper relationship with nature and each other.

H/T Biased BBC commenter Obi Wan

Trigger warning: If you have the stomach for entirely biased ‘environmentalist’ advocacy masquerading disingenuously as ‘religious’ programming here is the i-Player link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0783m43 – but be warned: it’s a full half hour of entirely ‘on-message’ ‘climate change’ virtue signalling from a true believer, who sneers bellligerently all the way.

A powerful complaint has just been made to the BBC.

163 pages of chapter and verse of their awful record on climate matters.
