Discussion > Ads floating across the screen on BH
Yup. I'm seeing the floating advert too. Very annoying. Glad I'm using my iPad. God knows what kind of malware and trojans would be injected if I was viewing this on Internet Explorer on a PC.
From Unthreaded
Chrome and i-explorer try adding agooglefiles.com to the blocklist under security setting
Firefox - I installed a scriptblocker extension like NoScript,
restarted browser, clicked options at bottom right of screen selected - temprarily enable all,
logged into BH, then selected revoke temporary use...nohair ad now gone

There is a simple remedy:
1. Sign up to make a regular donation to support the BH blog
2. Install Adblocker.
Tiny: Temporarily enable all scripts? Woah. No thanks. How long do you think it takes a virus to infect your machine? Can't trick a trojan by only enabling scripts temporarily. PS. The floating ad is also click-jacking the first click I attempt to make upon arriving at the site - redirecting me god knows where to a site potentially loaded with malware.
I'm now getting a "Remove Malware (Free)" advert on this thread!
Don't think I'll trust that one either.
MH: I did that once (well, twice, actually - I am a slow learner). It let slip in a real nasty bunch of viruses that sent every click to unpleasant places. Luckily, the only one who gained was the local comp.shop who sorted them out.
Sorry, I didn't read the bit about "Temporarily enable all scripts", just loaded the software and fiddled a bit. What can I say, I'm an engineer, I never read instructions. At first it stopped me posting at all and then I could post but the ladies returned. Finally I got them out and got back the stuff I expected. No idea what I did.
I have AdBlockPlus installed and enabled; by default it doesn't block this ad, but you can use the "block element" control to select it.
Looks like the site has been hacked. A script tag has been added as the last line of every page on the web-site. This animates the advert - which then links to a website reehair.com. This redirects to the site that is selling wigs.
For temporary relief from this aggrannoyance, I found that accessing via bishophill.squarespace.com seems to work. Although there is the minor inconvenience that the Comments and Recent Posts will take you back to the aggrannoying version.
Firefox with Adblock installed.
Right click on the annoying image and select "Adblock Plus: Block Image..."
Seems to have worked for me?
Edit:-
It is probably like:-

yes @Hilary http://bishophill.squarespace.com works fine in Chrome
sorry typo before : igooglefiles.com is the domain that holds that script
In internet Explorer THIS WORKED
- Tools/InternetOptions
- select security tab
- select restricted sites type *.igooglefiles.com
- select the disallow option
For advanced users : There is another way to ban sites and that is through the HOSTS file
in C:\WINDOWS\system32drivers\etc
(you might need to show hidden files and off click readonly, before you can see it and edit it)
open it in notepad and add this to the bottom
127.0.0.1 www.igooglefiles.com
127.0.0.1 show.igooglefiles.com
YEP WORKED In Firefox ....but Not in Chrome
but - Internet Explorer OK also, but half toolbar missing
@NickH yes looks like a virus rather that a real ad
POST didn't seem to work ...it gave me a dns error
so posted 2nd time.. but found it had worked afterall
4th time
3rd time
If this is a genuine virus then I strongly recommend Bitdefender Total Security 2015, just never ever buy it if not on offer.
I get Bishop Hill through squarespace and there is no problem at all.
Yikes.
Unintentionally I went to http://www.bishop-hill.net/ . The floating girls are there, notwithstanding adblocker.
Back on http://bishophill.squarespace.com, no problem at all.
I really don't mind ads, they're the reason I get 'free' services like gmail and google maps, but once the ads start floating around the screen in front of the content (like on BH today) it's a bit too much.
I'm not even interested in hair products, what the f***k is going on?
