You are absolutely correct.
What caught my ear was the determined statement by Monique Pressley, a lawyer acting for a Mr Crosby ( who I understand to be an American entertainer)
that "The sheer volume or number of people who are saying a particular thing does not make it true."
I am sure that IF she was acting for a climate related group she would happily argue that "97 percent of scientists etc."
I draw to your attention the idea that those wishing to influence our opinion can use the arguments " They all say it so it must be true" or "Just because they all say it it need not be true".
Both arguments can be successfully emotive.
Hence my reference to the famous 97%.
As the American comic's lawyer says ;.

Well, that's sorted global warming for me.
(97% for anyone?)
