Discussion > Skeptical Groupthink about ATTP

Perhaps Raff is right., If so many apparently sensible people can fall for this vanity thread* then I despair.

* is this thread about climate? No.
is this thread about the major players in climate? No.
this thread is about Raff and his pals and what we think of them.
WTF cares.

Golf Charlie:

Why are global warmongers so convinced they are right…
Because the proper term for them should be “Believers”. No Believer is going to question their belief, as it could turn out that they find that they are wrong; the only thing that they can do is attack any who do question. One thing that they do not understand is that sceptics have no fear of being wrong; all that is required is valid evidence. That attitude is completely beyond their comprehension. This whole thread is but a wild rant by Barf, encapsulating this incomprehension as he projects his own views on us so that he may attack them and still feel pious – even his link to Euan Mearns does not contain the diatribe against him that he tries to make you believe; it just contains his usual mix of invective and insidious suggestions, squirming like a fish on a hook when he gets called out on it.

TBYJ is right (again! – good grief, how I hate him!), and we should stop this stoking of the vanity of a truly tiny mind.

SandyS, Slapheadedness cannot just be brushed under the carpet, or combed over the top. As I get older, the problem of dealing with unwanted hair, has become more focused on removing it from the bath plug hole.

I have fortunately got past that stage for hair falling out, there is not enough left to notice. Until I got the hairdresser to remove the odd survivor from the large bare area they used to tickle the top of my head, very annoying and disconcerting as it felt like a spider dancing on your head.

Or we can use troll tactics and divert it into something totally unrelated and which he finds boring, unless he is suffering premature hair loss. Mine started falling out when I was 17/18 so I've had a long time to get used to it and test various sorts of headgear, not to conceal but for warmth/protection.

I'm still clinging on to some of mine. If I don't bend down to pick something up from the floor, sometimes people don't even realise it's going.

This is turning into a good thread :)

So who here bought the new Adele album?

"soft cushions" Raff...

Fetch the soft cushions!

Male pattern baldness is something that was never mentioned in the climate record, until star slaphead Michael Mann appeared.

Is there a link?

I know that in sunnier climates, a 'Tilley Hat' is very useful to prevent sunburn, and I wonder if they make them big enough to stop the sun frying the big heads of some climate scientists.

It is a good tactic. Avoiding the subject of dishonesty is sensible for "skeptics" as they appear to have a strange relationship with truth. I've often found it difficult to believe that some apparently clever people don't seem able to distinguish true from false. It is my theory that to become a supporter of "skeptical" blogs one has to be dishonest. How else could people seriously question the standards of blogs like ATTP while ignoring the open sore of WUWT and dozens of 'lesser' blogs.

I wonder! Of course, in the absence of evidence, I dare say we could re-purpose a climate model to prove unequivocally that there's a link. ;)

I haven't bought anything by Adele, is she any good?

Jan 7, 2016 at 2:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterSandyS

Actually Adele might be a good alternative to "torture by soft furnishings"... on repeat.

However, I think this is the perfect Spanish Inquisition torture song..,

One two three four...

I tortured my sons with this on Christmas morning when they wouldn't get out of bed.

Listening to this non-stop on repeat, me in a comfy chair, I reckon after 24 hours, I would repent and accept CAGW as scientific fact and pray at the alter of Mann...

Media Hoar, have you been sitting on the soft cushions, or wearing them as a hairpiece?

Who would have thought that after all these years, Arthur Scargill's 'hairdresser' would have got a new assignment working for Donald Trump?

Just to keep Raff happy, does anyone know why ATTP doesn't support Mann's Hockey Stick? If could provoke a Warmist Groupthink about him, and whether he is denying something.

Even ATTP has standards below which he will not go?

I never found Monty Python particularly funny, perhaps too much radio comedy from Round The Horne, Beyond Our Ken, I'm sorry I'll Read That Again and classic such as those..

Raff confuses his inability to recognize problems with the consensus he echoes so faithfully with the idea that skeptics are not accurately pointing out problems with the consensus.
And his laughable red herring of falsely claiming that skeptics say all climate scientists are pathological liars is, well, sort of pathological.
But thanks for demonstrating for all the lack of substance and thought he brings to the table.
As to ATTP- he is a minor neverwuzzer: Good for entertainment and diversion, nothing more- I only feel sorry for his victims, err, students.

SandyS, I have never met Adele, but she does sing nicely. Whether she is any good at climate science, I don't know, but as 97% of climate scientists have yet to get anything right, she ought to be given a chance.

Quite how 97% of climate scientists manage to be 100% wrong, on guessing which way up a coin will land, will keep statisticians and probability theorists in work for at least 20 years.

Jan 7, 2016 at 11:48 PM | Unregistered Commentergolf charlie

Well, as Peeping Tom Golf Charlie knows, I do not have the same problems as many of you, so decided not to join the conversation, but now you are talking about Adele. While I might have the lungs to challenge hers (how was your view into the lodge, GC? Were you on the dam, in the long grass or on the garbage dump? I hope your temperature was not raised more than 2°!), I do not have the voice, which is one reason my shower has curtains, not a glass door. However, I do think that it would take the statisticians and theorists considerably longer than 20 years to study how so many could be so wrong – say, 97 years?

Raff, we have heard lots of scary stories about the vanishing sea ice, leading to polar bears being threatened and toxic clouds of methane hydrates being released.

Should people who were worried, remain so?

Radical Rodent, with modern imaging techniques, computer science generated revisions of history, and US military spy satellites, I saw you from the Grassy Knoll in Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Nov 22nd 1963. Many people have wondered why I was there, pretending to smoke my nappies.

Obviously global warmongers do sit around at their regular parties in exotic locations to plot conspiracies against those who disagree with them. How else can the RICO 20 circular firing squad be explained? Clearly they had learned some lessons about how not to get caught connspiring to subvert science from the Climategate e-mail revelations. Poor communication skills were blamed, when it should have been poor abilities to conceal communications.

Obviously Raff as part of his climate skeptical science skool homework assignment could read 'The Hockey Stick Illusion' by Andrew Montford. This would put his knowledge far above those climate science experts who wrote reviews, without having read it. Who would have thought climate science experts could be so dishonest? Especially when writing for the Guardian aswell.

By the way, I take your obvious approval of thread disruption as giving me a free hand for similar behaviour, should I feel inclined.

You'd better ask Andrew Montford about that, Raff. It's not our approval you need, whether you think you have it or not.

Jan 8, 2016 at 3:21 AM | Unregistered Commentermichael hart

Disruption? Interesting use of the word. It is called free speech ;-) (or as free as BH allows, it is his blog)

Raff regard it as a mirror.

I do not know if others had noticed, but I had noticed that you were the commenter with the greatest difference between the high opinion of their own intellect and reasoning, against the words they actually wrote. A continual contradiction even displayed in this discussion. I ignored you.

But you have become an absolutist. The absolutes I am talking about have nothing to do with science. Your whole language is scattered with them. So I take the option afforded by the rules on this blog (founded on the freedom of speech of the UK) to take the piss out of you. This is a fair tactic.

A large part of the reason of my involvement in CAGW is to stop people like you getting power. Give absolutists power throughout history and the body count goes up in millions, and society regresses for generations.

Even for arguments sake excepting some negative effects of CAGW, I honestly believe the attempt to combat and to a lesser extent mitigate CAGW would be worse for my children. Because "you" would be in control.

CAGW has very little to do with science. What I am being sold or why am I being told it? Science is just one of a number of tools used by people like yourself. And I will play my small part in stopping you have the power and say in how I run my life, and my following generations.

I'll check Adele's singing out. In terms of record (showing my age) I think it is a case of a Good Pub Needs No Bush and it's not just down to marketing.
