Discussion > Adverts On BBC News Website For Expats

Green Sand posed this question on Unthreaded, rather than getting responses mixed up with other Unthreaded topics I've put the question here

Question for BH expat regulars - do you use BBC online news?

If so do you see adverts? What sort of adverts? Question prompted by
this

Not particularly a 'Brexit' issue more an interest in what sort of ad campaigns, if any, the BeeB runs on its 'overseas' website

I'm currently getting a series of financial services for expats on the sidebar, the BBC equivalent of the Sidebar of Shame.and an advert in French as the banner advert from the UK Tourist Board or whatever they are called these days.

The sidebar Adverts says Ads By Google

The main advert link makes a good case for a holiday in the UK.

I suspect the Google Ads are the same ones I see elsewhere but I never click on them as I don't want the BBc to get any income from them. I made an exception today because of this question

Thanks Sandy, both for the answer and the move.

Japan resident. I see no ads on the BBC website, but I use an ad-blocker. FWIW, the only time I've visited the BBC in the past few years was to listen to Desert Island Discs and I'm sorry I haven't a clue. Both are tightly restricted. I don't go to the BBC for news. Not trustable.

I look at exchange rates on the BBC a couple of times a month, no other news other than what I see getting to the exchange rates.

A few months ago BBC pages changed to become more like the Daily Mail with a lot of click bait bits
I think that normal people are so thick that they prefer to click on videos rather than try to absorb a page of text.
I liked the old site much better, cos you could read the titles ..now the photos get in the way

On My page I see
- Bottom - A block of titillating click bait videos
"More Videos from the BBC recommended to you by Outbrain"
- Another block of titillating click bait videos
"Elsewhere on BBC recommended to you by Outbrain
Sidebar
Videeo ad square "Sculptura Ardmore" Reeal Estate
- Headed "Features & Analysis"
- A BBC top 10
- "From Around the Web Promoted Content by by Outbrain"
- "Ads by Google"

Been having to increase my AdBlock "interference" steadily in the past months as more and more side bar and not particularily interesting or morally questionable clicables appeared. Tonight I can't get the Open Golf scores as the page whiteouts as soon as I scroll - unless AdBlock deactivated. Shame on you BBC . Plenty of other sites with that info unrestricted thankfully. Slowly weaning myself off BBC Sport.

Funnily enough I have noticed an increase in adverts for ex-pats on the BBC sidebar.
