Do we know what Google and Facebook have done, to justify appointing themselves to a position of trust?

I've been puzzled since the creation of both organisations that people seem to be surprised that these and other similar organisations have an agenda. Everyone, without exception, has an agenda.
It's interesting talking to our old timer French neighbours in general none of them know who to vote for. Although we've said that if they want to get rid of us then voting Le Pen is a good plan, if they want us to stay then voting someone else and hoping for reciprocal arrangements is a the best plan.

Google and Facebook will be working with the mainstream media to tell voters “what and who to trust”, including “memes, comment threads and news sites”, in the lead up to the French elections.
The two Tech giants, who have been accused of a “liberal bias”, will set up the “coalition news verification project” with 37 French and international media outlets including the BBC, AFP (Agence France-Presse), and BuzzFeed News.
