There seems to be two tribes in academia - those who do research / teach for the joy of it - and those that devote themselves to acquiring status and influence.
There is some crossover - but that seems to be the main partitioning.
The status and influence activist crew are certainly the noisiest in climate science and they seem to want to hook up with ever more exalted status and influence in other areas like media personality, UN / EU taxpayer funded boondoggles and sponsorship by the likes of Jeremy Grantham. The politically motivated ones are absolutely the worst of the lot.
If shinning the greasy pole means riding dodgy assertions,faking it and relentless alarmism that's what they'll do - their overblown self regard won't allow anything else. Add in the larcenous opportunistic politicians and crony businesses predating public funds and the requirement for never ending contrived BS is clear.
Next thing they'll claim CO2 levels caused Brexit and Trump.

Actually, I think you will find that Climate SCIENTISTS caused BREXIT and Trump, with their Unscientific claims, destruction of traditional industry, and pointless taxation. It is amazing they got away with it for so long.
As the EU celebrates 40 years of achievements followed by 20 years of BAD, Bureaucracy Assured Destruction, they are wondering where it all went wrong as well.

But BREXIT and Trump could not have caused the Medieval Warm Period. Perhaps the Normans did a lot of shouting and remonstrating when they invaded, and the Anglo-Saxons did a bit in protest. The Normans did great things for North Western Eurpoe at a time of Global Warming, and no mention is made of rising sea levels, ocean acidification, polar bears or 9 out of 6 Hockey Sticks being the preferred cat food, so the Normans obviously had a better understanding of Climatology than modern Computer Aided Bounty Hunters.

No one yet knows why Global Warming and Cooling occurs, but CO2 can be eliminated. All the more surprising that all other causes were eliminated by Climate Science experts, having previously decided CO2 was to blame, at a meeting that went unrecorded by Climate Scientists.
Entropic Man claims a conspiracy is in operation, he is of course correct.

Climate Scientists are the only Earthly life form to have shown the slightest sensitivity to CO2 Levels, and that may be exaggerated for financial reasons.
