California is beyond confusing:
Victor Davis Hanson; Explains why California is Failing Despite Silicon Valley & all it's Wealth
Thanks, RC. I've not seen Davis Hanson before. He's a good speaker. Very easy on the ear.
Déjà vu?
What has happened with the Climate Change Agenda has happened elsewhere!
Jordan Peterson is giving a presentation to a bunch of Canadian Conservatives, helping them to understand where they and their opponents are in their political space, as they appear a little confused - because the labels of their political parties do not reflect their political ideals. :)
He is finally introduced @17:55 and it worth watching if you are interested in the subject, or wanting to see how the Humanities have lost their direction and the Canadian legal system, its common sense.
This clip starts later, @38:21, just before the bit relevant to Climate Change, to get a bit of context.
Jordon is discssing the Canadian Bill C16, which is expected to become law. It is supposed to help those who find sex and gender a non-binary issue, but he points out that those driving this legislation have other goals and that the legislation will only create more problems than it solves for the target group.
What is of interest to us is what I have transcribed here, about the abandonment of the Scientific process and how it came about.
38:34 ... and most of the time, they are too damn cowardly to debate
39:12 ... that kind of thinking was defeated in the Scientific realm back in the 1960s in the universities. And what that meant was the radicals who wanted to keep promoting precisely that kind of view just circumvented the entire Scientific process and started to implement their demands for their particular view point from a practical, policy, administrative and legislative perspective, knowing full well that they had lost 100% on the empirical and Scientific front.
And now what they do instead is criticise the Scientific endevour itself because it failed to produce the results that they assumed would be the case.
So, there's plenty that is rotten in the state of Denmark, and I am embarrassed to state that a tremendous amount of that stems from the universities. And they are in bad shape.
I am confuser by how terrible the media is now. As a decades long Guardian reader and thinking it was really good in the 80s 90s why am i reading this today
"Pollutants from fracking could pose health risk to children, warn researchers
Analysis of US fracking sites suggests pollutants including airborne particulates and heavy metals could affect neurodevelopment of babies and children"
and
"'We will be toasted, roasted and grilled': IMF chief sounds climate change warning
Christine Lagarde warns of ‘dark future’ if the world fails to take steps to address global warming"
There is no content at all in the articles... It goes along with the BBC apology of interviewing Nigel Lawson. I am as wishy washy liberal as you get but facts are the obvious focus of 'News'. The media is as many people already know full of complete idiots.....
Rob Burton. Greetings to a fellow Guardian reader. We are rather rare fish in this particular pond. I find that I skim read much of the paper, commonly only reading the headlines. Some opinion pieces I only read for fun. I scarcely let a Moonbat excrement go by unread. Today's was, unusually sensible - railing at the PFI that is leading to the cutting down of trees along Sheffield's roads. So sensible in fact, that it became boring and I didn't finish reading it.
Why do I continue with the Guardian? Well I get it free each day from my local Waitrose when I shop, and I cannot abide news tendered with a right-wing slant (they don't push AGW as much, but it's there).
This thread was made for this article!
"A math education professor [Rochelle Gutiérrez] at the University of Illinois argued in a newly published book that algebraic and geometry skills perpetuate “unearned privilege” among whites."
* Gutierrez worries that algebra and geometry perpetuate privilege because "emphasizing terms like Pythagorean theorem and pi" give the impression that math "was largely developed by Greeks and other Europeans."
* She also worries that evaluations of math skills can perpetuate discrimination against minorities, especially if they do worse than their white counterparts.
CampusReform: Algebra, geometry perpetuate white privilege
Pedagogical knowledge, knowledge of diverse students, and Nepantla are mentioned, and that teachers must be aware of the “politics that mathematics brings” in society, but no mention of anything like simultaneous equations, calculus and partial differential equations, Fourier Analysis, Topology, Fractal geometry, or even Arithmetic!
And we thought it was only the Social Sciences (which isn't Science or social) and the Humanities that are doomed!
Rochelle clearly knows nothing, oh sorry that must be another white concept coming out of India.
Perhaps we should institute an Nepantlan award, akin to the Ignoble Award, for the stupidest academic concept. Rochelle would be the front runner to win it this year.
I wonder if Jerry Brown could/would buy out the BBC and move it to California:
Breitbart: Gov. [of California] Jerry Brown Tells BBC: Trump ‘at War’ With America, I Will ‘Stabilize the Ship of State’
He could try and 'stabilize the DNC' for starters! :)

CampusReform: Profs: Math classes 'inaccessible and oppressive' to students
*A group of professors argues in a newly-published book that math teachers must “live out social justice commitments” to fight privilege in the classroom.
*According to the authors, math classes can be “inaccessible and oppressive” for students who don’t have the “privilege and power” enjoyed by their professors
Math teachers, “must learn how to advocate for students, self-examine for biases, and strategically subvert the system in which they teach to counteract student oppression,” the professors argue, adding that the development of “political knowledge” is key.
...
The new anthology, “Building Support for Scholarly Methods in Mathematics,” is the same book [publisher?] that published a chapter by Rochelle Gutierrez, who argued that algebra and geometry can perpetuate white privilege.
As Campus Reform reported last week, Gutierrez worries that “curricula emphasizing terms like Pythagorean theorem and pi perpetuate a perception that mathematics was largely developed by Greeks and other Europeans.”
It's getting closer and closer ...
NoTricksZone: Academia Stunned As Science Anti-Free Speech Neurosis Flares…”Eminent Scientists” Sued Over Dissident Paper
It includes a link to Prof. Judith Curry at her Climate Etc site, writing that she was “speechless”, adding:
In many ways, this is much worse than any of Michael Mann’s lawsuits alleging defamation of character [link] — Jacobson’s lawsuit seeks to settle a genuine scientific disagreement in the courts.

*According to the authors, math classes can be “inaccessible and oppressive” for students who don’t have the “privilege and power” enjoyed by their professors
in my case is complete nonsense. I have an under-privileged state educated background. I always had problems with the written word*, on the other hand I was good at sums and later algebra and and maths in general. Maths was a liberator as far as I was concerned.
* Spell checkers are high in my top 10 greatest ever inventions. A lot of prejudgements are made on spelling ability, I am amongst that group regarded as ineducable by earlier generations of teachers.
Lindsay Shepherd is the Laurier University postgrad who showed a clip from a local broadcaster, that would be seen by families at home, containing a discussion about the Canadian C16 legislation that forces people to use the correct pronouns, to an undergraduate workshop. Jordan Peterson was one of participants.. At her university the legislation means that people can be called to account for using the incorrect pronouns, considered an alleged 'hate crime', without knowing what the crime was or who it was against, or even how many reported it.
Because she was told there would be a diversity officer (or something like that) present at the trial, alarm bells rang and she recorded the interrogation (in my view :) )
This clip is a few weeks later, after she had been on several (supporting) webcam sites. What is particularly interesting is that, especially towards the end, she discusses other people's reactions to events and she begins to see through the brainwashing in which she has been immersed:
RubinReport: Lindsay Shepherd LIVE: Free Speech Battle with Laurier University
(If you don't know the story, it would be worth starting from the beginning of the clip.)
Here are Jonathan Haidt and Jordan Peterson discussing the problems within US universities and revealing their own journeys:
The Perilous State of the University [In The USA, and Canada]
The Law Society in Canada has been captured by the SJWs.
Here is a discussion to work out what to do. This isn't a game, as you will see if you view the clip:

Here is an update, which I am not sure is as interesting :) :
Update: Law Society of Ontario Compelled Speech
You still might be after this 100 minute clip, but I hope not. You might not even bother watching it.
If you find it useful, you are unlikely to find it anywhere else, so ....
Jordan B Peterson is a well known Canadian clinical psychologist who is critical of political correctness, from the term 'white privilege' to postmodern feminism and cultural appropriation. There are many youtube video clips of fragments of his lectures that constructively criticises the current culture within Western academia.
Camille Paglia is a professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and considers herself as a libertarian but has many different views to that expected: she is an Atheist yet thinks the world religions are full of wisdom, she is somewhat gender fluid but thinks men should be men and not feminised, childhood is an important development in our civilisation and shouldn't be thrown away and that ‘Transgender Propagandists’ are committing ‘Child Abuse’.
She dislikes the fragmented approach to teaching Art that has occurred over the last forty years and has the view that many in the Humanities and Social Sciences have no knowledge of History, just an Attitude, which means they impart little wisdom to their students.
Here is a conversation, with Jordan B Peterson asking Camille Paglia to fill him in on how Post Modernism Art and Marxism have managed to work together (to the detriment of the rest of us!)
So it starts of being a bit above my head, but then becomes more interesting as they piece together what has happened in academia, though hearing what happened in the universities in the Sixties and Seventies was enlightening, I am pleased I wasn't there because of the futility of what was learnt (somewhat like the problem of being caught up in the Climate Change Agenda).
It covers many areas of life, like what does a man do in the work place when confronted with an agressive, arrogant woman (not that there are any, of course! :) )
There is also an explanation of why zebras have black and white stripes (@ 24 min 25 sec) and how bureaucrats manage to survive within an organisation longer than ever thought possible:
