Discussion > Let us save money and close both the CRU AND the Grantham Institute at Imperial College, London

The Grantham Institute may be tucked away in aircondiitioned offices within the LSE but is a privately funded PR Lobbying Agency, funded by Jeremy Grantham

When it comes to receiving money, the LSE have a track record:

The CRU as founded by Hubert Lamb was largely unknown, but quietly got on with dedicated research into historic changes in climate and what causes them. Unfortunately, they then dedicated themselves to global warming, Mann's Hockey Stick, and ignored their history. Rather like the EU, CRU has been corrupted by politicised science, veered off at a tangent, and forgotten their purpose.
Do you really think that we know everything we need to know about our climate(s) and how they might change in our future? Watch the news, every year more and more controls on weather and ultimately upon climate are discovered and described. CRU had a role which was worth studying. That role remains.

I would like to know more about historic causes of Changes in the Climate and Weather. If they could give the MWP and LIA a bit more attention, they started, lasted and ended, they might not have jumped from new ice age scare in the early 1970s to runaway Global Warming.
Just how much money do you believe could be saved for our present government to squander by shutting down CRU and the Grantham Institute? (which one, there are two, one based at Imperial, the other at LSE and Leeds). As golfCharlie has already stated the Institutes were supported by a private grant. I don't know the situation at CRU now but for most of its life researchers were on 'soft money' entirely dependent on grants, mostly from the USA.

Shall I make a Freedom of Information request about the overall funding of these institutes of Groupthink?
On that topic I strongly recommend the late Christopher Booker's excellent publication of on this issue available for £3.75 and published in March 2018. Book from Mr Amazon or, much better support your local book store.

You most certainly can, but at least 50% of your time may be wasted. See above.!
I am retired. I do not sleep well. I HAVE time to do this. It only costs me £10 per query. I have £100s. Ian
I have had a fairly negative response from a former colleague who works at one of these "Institutes"
C'est la vie, n'est pa?

In these times of change due to Covid 19 let us save government money and simply close down permanently both the CRU at UEA AND the Grantham Institute at Imperial College, London.
If "they" are now 99% certain that 97% of all global warming is "Mann made" then their reason for existing is largely fulfilled.
As they are very shy of open, unbiased, debate they clearly cannot contribute to the discussion here. (Sorry, Phil, Tim, Eric, Hubert, Bob and Martin.)
With their biased advice (sorry, again, Bob) missing the drive to dump the Climate Change Act and then to replace it with a set of laws to protect and improve all measures of the environment in the UK can be funded.
Please if anyone can explain how burning American wood pellets at Drax is emitting net zero CO2 as they "will be planting trees to take up the CO2 over coming decades" is any different from a coal burning power station saying the same thing acn they post here.
I am not too keen on "Bird Choppers" or using PV panels to heat my home in the winter in the UK, either.
If you support this suggestion and would like their government funds to go to good causes such as reducing child poverty in the UK or supporting worthwhile organisations such as the GWPF then get your friend on to the BIshop Hill Blog to keep this discussion topic at the number one position.
To all those in the Grantham Institutes and the Climate Research Unit at UEA.
I am sorry to see you go.
Remember to lock the doors of the buildings when you leave. You will not be sadly missed. The scientists who used to work there will be re-employed within the general field of science. Some may have to brush up on their skills in Spreadsheets and databases.
Rant Over.
Best wishes to you all,
Dr Ian
