Discussion > Mad Marie Antoinette Boris & his 2030 GreenCrap

Boris seems to be introducing new sudden drastic fake-green policies on a whim
..without any proper form of democracy and debate.

So here is a space for discussion

Mad Marie Antoinette Boris
says
"Let them not fly
Let them pay extra for electric cars
Let them have one less nurse in each ward, to pay for wind/solar energy extra costs"

And MarieAntoinetteMedia keep pushing these metropolitan liberal elite dreams

Yep bottom line their green ideas don't work, so they are going the COMMUNIST way of banning their competition.

If new tech works
it is automatically sustainable
and the market will love it
eg hydro dams are a functioning green idea in the right circumstances
Fusion when it works will be the same

No subsidies needed, big corps will just do it to make money and be prepared to pay some extra tax.

What Boris's lot are doing
is saying, "we have some NEW green tech ideas
but they are not good enough for the free market, so we are going to force it on the public
we are going to ban the conventional competition or tie them down in red tape,"

FFS Drax sits on a coal field
but the idiot government has banned coal
so Drax ships in trees all the way from America
which produce MORE CO2 and burn DIRTIER
.. but we have this idea that eventually new trees will grow and theoretically re-absorb the CO2 over the next 30 years
but all the time they'll be cutting down new trees and burning them and there is a 30 year lag before their CO2 is reabsorbed too
It's all nuts

The government is not really green at all
If they were they would stop all this "shop yourself green" BS
They'd stop open borders, discourage population growth, particularly in countries where it's growing fast
and do better planning so that people can live near their job.
Not building Cross Rail or HS2 etc.

Buying an electric car is simply a "have your cake and eat it" solution.
It's not properly changing lifestyle
It still involves chopping down trees to build a one tonne box, that you travel 60Km a day to and from work in.

Yes. You'd think after covid part 1 he'd have stopped promising stuff that other people can't deliver. I wonder how many pretty(ish) blond saleswomen the renewables companies send his way? Although since it's Carrie that wears the trousers, maybe the renewables staff are pretty young men? Or maybe a mixed assortment?

TinyCO2: "Or maybe a mixed assortment?"

A very sly bit of humour there! I have only just learnt that Ms S is known as Princess Nut Nuts! (Need to get out more).

There's a Twitter account link to a old train enthusiasts charity The Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company
It's trying to justify H2 spending £52bn to me

The money is borrowed at low interest rates, currently zero or even negative,
and it's repaid over 60 years.
Seeing as HS2 will carry 40m passengers in its first full year and that figure will rise by about 70% when phase 2b opens there will be plenty of money available.
As usual the account was projecting when it insulted me
Of course negative interest rates NEVER happen for commercial loans, it's just a state bank overnight thing

Paying back £52bn over 60 years cost about £1bn/year
even if interest rates are very low

with 40m passengers you need £25 pure profit from each passenger journey to make that £1bn
Is 40 million passengers a realistic number ?
I make that 110K passengers x 365
ie 10,000 passengers per hour for 11 hours per day

"13.6m journeys in 2017/18." "between the West Midlands region and London"
He reckons it will be triple that through ONE station

The numbers don't stack up imho.

We should be able to see what present rail passenger figures are between London and Birmingham and also the volume of road traffic - from that one could make a reasoned assessment of the likely utilisation + revenue for HS2.

I've trivially tried getting the ticket numbers out of the rail operators and the road figures out of DoT as research efforts to support acquaintance's business plans - it's publicly paid-for data, but the shits make it difficult / impossible to get hold of.... I had a budget to pay for data as well - they simply don't want you to know....

As far as rail is concerned -- I really miss Red Star parcels where I could get a package from one end of the country to another same day (literally) for reasonable cost and with far less chance of damage than the frantic spoke and hub van maniacs presently manage...

Technically there are 4 stations
2 at the central London end, then Brum Airport and Brum City

The guy claims northern trains will feed through Brum so be part of that 40m

He speaks nonsense about borrowing
HS2 doesn't have any borrowing
So far it's spent £10bn of government money awarded from special grants each year
The guy is also dishonest about the cost
I seeing accepting a figure of £88bn
which is more than my £52bn estimate
There was an estimate of £106bn, but he claimed that included a scrapped Heathrow extension.

OT

have you seen that @thepointmans is trying to get himself thrown off Twitter?

Jan 25, 2021 at 6:29 PM | Registered Commentertomo

So you have to make £38 per journey pure profit to pay the £1.5bn/year over 60 to pay the £88bn
It's not just ticket price it now it might be WH Smith , McDonalds Starbucks handing some of the money over but ultimately it has to come from Granny spending her cash.
