Discussion > President-elect Biden
How much green tomfoolery Biden can introduce will depend on the senate result in Georgia. If the Republicans get at least one of the 2 seats they will be able to block legislation in the same way they did with Obama in his second term. Hopefully that will happen and will reduce the damage.
Get it right for once.
Biden is not President elect yet and hopefully never.
Well, in the absence of Trump's legal team actually managing to make a case at Court (and there's no sign of that yet), then Biden will be the President-elect. Whether he makes it to be President might be another matter - not much publicity has been giving to him badly damaging his foot while playing with his dog a few days ago, and no doubt he's capable of being too ill to be inaugurated if he puts his mind to it - but I think it's safe to say goodbye to President Trump from handover day in late January.
Am Shanks. Gosh Biden is being given access to federal institutions and transitional funds without being the President Elect. Horrors! Furthermore he keeps appearing with President Elect backgrounds. If he is an imposter the secret service should carry him off. Alternatively he is indeed the PEOTUS and your strange nom-de-blog is appropriate for the quality of your comment.
He is not President elect, If you believe that you should change your news provider,Just because the BBC and other MSM say so it doesn't make it true, Biden has not been give access to transitional funds.Anybody can claim they are President elect. Why do you think Kamala Harris has not resigned her Senate seat?
That's trivially true. The US Constitution has no such role as President Elect, it is largely a term of convenience.
What is non-trivially true is that the candidate who wins the majority of Electoral College votes wins the right to be inaugurated President of the United States. That candidate is Joe Biden. State after state is certifying the vote, Team Trump's increasingly desparate lawsuits are being tossed out for lack of evidence as fast as they are being raised.
Sorry, but The People have Spoken.
Phil Clarke, you appear to have as much understanding of our Constitution as you do about the climate.
In a land of elected judiciary the final arbiter is the Supreme Court, if they decide the election was fraudulant, which it definately was, they require two Electors from each State to decide,as the Republicans hold more States I think our President has four more years.
Our Founding Fathers were quite bright when it came to potential election fraud.
"It is not the votes that decide elections but who count the votes" Joseph Stalin.

Taking bets on that? You need to brush up on your civics. It is the electors who judge if the election result was fairly arrived at. Each State gets to choose it's electors based on the popular vote. In theory some electors can decide to vote for a candidate other than the one who won the vote - so called faithless electors - and this happened in 2016 when four electors from Washington voted for Colin Powell - but
in 33 states and the District of Columbia, state law requires the electors to vote for the candidate for whom they were selected. The Supreme Court has upheld those laws. Those include 19 states (and the District of Columbia) that voted for Joe Biden. In total, 199 electoral college votes are already promised to Biden as a matter of law.To be sure, a smaller subset of those states – 15, with 123 electoral votes – go further and impose a penalty or sanction if an elector violates the duty to vote for a particular presidential candidate. The Supreme Court specifically upheld these laws last term, in a ruling we extensively covered. So theoretically, an elector might cast an unlawful vote that nonetheless still counts in the Electoral College. But the likelihood of that happening is very low.
Second, and in any event, with respect to the remaining Biden electors who are not legally bound to vote for him, it is unimaginable that more than a handful – if that – would ever instead vote for Trump. Electors are not random citizens. They are generally hand-picked by the respective political parties: here, the Democratic Party. To take a prominent example, one elector from Georgia is Stacey Abrams. And carefully chosen Democrats are uniformly able to agree that Trump should not be re-elected.
..
In sum, there is zero practical chance that Trump can be re-elected by changing the minds of Biden electors in the Electoral College.
The Supreme Court, faithless electors, and Trump’s final, futile fight -Supreme Court Blog.
There is some irony in a Trump supporter expecting the 'elected judiciary' to ride to his rescue, it is the same judiciary that in case after case have thrown out Team Trumps lawsuits alleging voting irregularities because of a total lack of evidence.
Joe won, in a fair fight.
Phil Clarke, are you naturally dense or is it something that you have developed in later life?
The Constitution states that if the Supreme court decides that an election is fraudulent, two Electors from each State shall vote to decide who will be the President. It has nothing to do with the Electoral College.
As Trump controls the Supreme court and the majority of States are Republican I can see him doing another term.
Intstead of reading various Blogs I suggest you read the Constitution and educate yourself.
The Constitution is perfectly clear. Responsibility for presidential election procedure is delegated to the individual states. The Supreme Court would only get involved if a case brought for fraud or some other issue of procedure could not be resolved in the State courts. Nearly all such cases so far have failed and States have in fact been steadily validating the vote. SCOTUS would be very reluctant to get involved in any case or cases that had the possibility of changing the election result. You are talking about, at a minimum, invalidating the ballots of at least 140,000 voters - the chances of this happening now is zero.
Just a reminder, the cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency issued a statement describing the election as the most secure in American history, and William Barr, not exactly a Biden fan, has stated that the DOJ has investigated and found no fraud capable of producing a different outcome.
That's an infinitesimally thin straw you're clutching at there.
I very much doubt that the majority of Republican leaders/senators/judiciary would back an overturn of the election. Any continuing fight is just an embarassment. If Trump had serious concerns about voter fraud he should have tackled it before the election.
As Trump controls the Supreme court ...
You have no problem with asserting that?
You ain't gonna overturn this.
Enjoy the next four years. :-)
Absolutely no problem.
Why do you think Trump got all his ducks in a row with the appointment of Amy Barret after the demise of Ginsberg to much Reeeeeeing from the Democrats?
Incidentley, I am not a Trump supporter, just an interested bystander.
Oh Phill !
Obviously our posts have crossed.
1. Since when has the popular vote counted in a US election?
2. Why are you quoting CNN as a reliable and unbiased news source?
3. Have you ever thought about seeking help?
The clue is in the name, if it is controlled by the President, it can hardly be Supreme. But thanks for confirming your absolute contempt for a central tenet of democracy.

Poor spelling, poor honesty.
After the revolution, I realized that the situation in the country was not stable and it was necessary in any case to have their own business. I work remotely as a programmer. My dream is to create my own application. That it would be in demand and popular. This article really inspired me.https://pixetic.com/services/app-design/ I hope that in the future I will have my own business and I will never be dependent on anyone.
Does anyone ever fall for SPAM posts? I'd certainly not want to earn a living by posting crap on obscure web sites. I only do that pro bono ;-)
Good one, TinyCO2!
( And you do post thoughtful and interesting stuff ).
Biden outperformed Obama and Hillary,
Reversed every bellwether trend nationwide,
Turned out to the tune of 90%+ just where he needed it, when he needed it.
All Hail The Chief
Thanks Charly, I try and sometimes I'm trying :-)
So the Republicans lost Georgia, giving the Democrats control of the Senate as that is now split 50:50 and the VP has the casting vote.
This gives Biden the freedom to implement his programme unconstrained. What do we think will be the consequences?
A few first thoughts:
> US oil production will decline, strengthening OPEC and Russia and leading to higher oil prices. Gas prices may well follow as they are still linked to oil in some markets.
> China will be more assertive, wiping out any opposition in HongKong and, in time, going after Taiwan.
> The US economy will be in turmoil as the Dems' socialist agenda takes hold.
> The global climate cabal will run amok.
Not a happy outlook. The best hope for a return to a more balanced situation will be the mid-terms in '22.
Ah, now we can breath, freed of the confinement of the old President Trump Discussion, there is now ample room to ruminate over the injustices of the 2020 election, complain that the Obama Machine is back and life is terrible. Enjoy.👣
