tomo,
I haven't watched a whole lot of Piers Morgan, but he did seem less confrontational than usual. Maybe Sachs's string of conspiracies had him bemused.

Impressive incompetence from field staff in New Zealand. The mind boggles. Luckily it was a contractor, so no public bureaucrats are going to suffer for it...

Robert

I don't know that much about Sachs ... what tickled me was the obvious jammed cogs that Morgan looked to be experiencing.

DaveS,
Yeah; at least they didn't make it sciency and say heatwaves were 35.24 times more likely.

BBC attributes the "research" to the World Weather Attribution group. Their website is a little coy about who they are and who funds them. It mentions partners:

Imperial College London
Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI)
Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre
(so relieved the Red Cross has a Climate Centre)

First seems to be the key. A who.is search says that that domain is registered to Imperial College. How much of the "scientific consensus" is merely a consensus among sock puppets?

tomo,
I confess to not being a fan of Sachs. It's not so much that he's not entitled to have a vicious streak, but the way he alternates baring his claws with pulling on the mantle of the great humanitarian (not in this video, but present elsewhere): not trustworthy.

Matt Ridley describes the UK's bureaucracy as a slow-motion coup (Spectator). A good read, and well said. Afraid it won't help much. The ratchet continues click by click.

An uncharacteristically subdued Piers Morgan with Jeffrey Sachs

The /bs tag certainly applies to this piece of BBC hysteria (as linked by WUWT):

.,
Yes, democracy, but only for people like us. DEI applies to athletics and beauty contests, but you wouldn't want diversity in politics.

Pretty much agree with what this video has to say about cholesterol (even if it is a bit clickbaity). Not lining up for the statins.

DaveS,
These days anything from a meteorological organisation has implicit /bs tags.

A few years ago I looked up Australia's BoM's charter. It made decent sense: predict the weather particularly for the benefit of agriculture, shipping and aviation. I'm sure the Met Office is officially charged with much the same responsibility. How have both organisations dropped the ball on weather and become obsessed with climate propaganda?

I suspect it's more down to the Sir Humphreys than the Jim Hackers. Predicting weather is a tall order and there are so many more comfy sinecures in average weather, and (as tomo suggests) no worries about wrong predictions. In thirty years' time you just have to say, Oh yes, we were wrong then, but we're doing much better now. Nice work if you can get it.

UKMO strategy is clear.

Increase the quantity of dishonest absurd bilge to saturation point where challenges are swamped.

Most people let them get away with it (©BBC)

It really is unacceptable that their incomes are not presently fully linked to their skill in predicting weather.

I wonder how many Met Office "corporate communications" peeps had previous careers in door to door selling.
