Bezmenov
I've read some tales about similar, long timescale, exceeding devious KGB operations elsewhere.
- the CIA have their own versions .... The loquacious Mark Groubert at America's Untold Stories has run with some of those He drops spook references liberally across the channel and while imho he's prone to some hyperbole and occasionally substituting Yank chauvinism for facts - many of his claims seem to trivially hold up - and I'm a sucker for "here's some dots"..
cont'd Leaf =50% reduced range in the snow + ice... I wonder at the differences between (highly proprietary) chemical recipes - electrolytes, electrodes and separators - in the present menagerie of cells in the wild. I've certainly seen differences just in "18650 world" that I'm familiar with.

tomo,
Was a little distracted by Dr Soh's having apparently attached her fringe to her eyelash. Didn't seem to distract her.
I don't think I'd heard about Yuri Bezmenov before. Interesting-ish. There's a bit of the Nostradamus in his four stages (demoralization, destabilization, crisis, normalization): sooner or later you'll find something that fits the pattern of the "next" stage, so they come in order, but it involves ignoring various things that match other stages. "Denormalization" is achieved when the hippies take over, then you wait for some "destabilizing" event (ignoring the various crises that come and go while you wait). Etc.
Fun, though, to think that the West was taken out by the Soviets after all. We thought we won the Cold War, but it turned out to be a one-all draw. (Except that time doesn't have finish lines)
Agreed on the "journalistic idiocy" (I suppose blood clots might be reduced if you're shivering). The article's nearly a year old though, so no doubt we have a more refined class of idiocy from the journalists by now.
Jo Nova is on a warning from history today too. We dig valuable material out of the ground and ship it away. Apart from that it's degree factories and tourism. Would be nice to see Australia re-industrialise, but I'm not holding my breath.
I see they're finding it a bit nippy in Scandinavia. Good place not to be right now. EV proponents point out the efficiency of electric drive. That's fair enough if drive is *all* you care about. The "waste heat" from combustion engines isn't so much of a waste at -40 degrees. The equation strikes a different balance when you have to warm the battery and the cabin.
and another piece of journalistic idiocy further down the thread...

tomo,
Enjoyable interview. He's an excellent spokesman for the sensible side. That's probably the main reason the established media (and the established everything in general) don't want to talk to him.
Ross Lea,
Fun article. He writes well and is a dab hand with sarcasm.
Imposter Ross (aka Mailman),
If we had the same people in charge of "earthquake mitigation", I think they'd find plenty of ways of pissing away the money while achieving nothing.
One of the commenters to (real) Ross's article said something very quotable:
The bureaucracy is expanding to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy. That's it in a nutshell.
That post from "Ross" was from me :)
Blaaaardy fat fingers and small keyboards!
That chart is terribly inconvenient eh...I mean one of the things that sticks out is that one of the most consistent killers of people over the decades is earthquakes!
Can you imagine what that chart would look like if we invested the time, effort and the money we have pissed away on ground unicorn horn power generation on earthquake mitigation?
" The "waste heat" from combustion engines isn't so much of a waste at -40 degrees. The equation strikes a different balance when you have to warm the battery and the cabin."
Didnt they discover this in Minnesota (or some other cold shit hole) when they swapped out their old style traffic lights for new "compliant" traffic lights that used LED lighting in that the "waste" heat would keep the traffic lights visible when covered in ice and snow...which the new LED lights did not do.
