Chris de Freitas in the NZ Herald today

Unlike most other hot button environmental issues, global warming is widely misunderstood. As a climate scientist thinking about this, it struck me that it was not surprising since accounts of the scientific basics of global warming almost never appear anywhere in the press.

Re brawl on Briggs and doom mongers thread

Sorry Andrew. Mea maxima culpa etc.

I'm afraid that the passive-aggressive tactic used by legjoints is more effective than I care to admit. You swat and swat - and there they are - waving all those legjoints at you still.

A refreshingly non-alarmist approach to bleaching in corals:

Old duffer alert!

Listened to (part of) the Material World on the car radio (UK Radio 4) and Martin Rees - presumably speaking for the Royal Society - commented on the rise of citizen scientists - he approved particularly on the way many extra eyes used the internet to look over the large datasets which scientists make available - later he was asked to speculate on the likely state of Science on the 400th anniversary of the Royal Society and he expressed certainty that we would be living in a much warmer world because of climate change.

Monbiot's site has been hacked, according to a poster on his thread on the Graun. His site is down at the moment.

The message on the CiF thread:

@GeorgeMonbiot FYI

George, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but your site's been hacked. Tried to read this article there just now and the homepage just carries a message from a (Turkish?) hacker.

Mods, can you let him know, please, then delete this post? Ta.\

I though this was an interesting post, brought to my attention by @glinner 's apparent Godwinning stance on things CAGW:

So many spintastic and inaccurate memes, so little time.
