As monsters go, a likable sort.

Which do I like least ... the lies over global warming, or the lies over the Norse horned helmets.

The evidence is very clear. The Norse did not wear these stupid horned helmets. These are entirely the fertile figment of imagination of antiquarians. Based on images like the Gundestrup cauldron, which are the wrong date by several thousand years.

Easy, tiger. I wear a kilt in 'ancient hunting' tartan. Nobody wore a pleated bloody kilt until the 19th century.

Mike Haseler,

Those aren't horns on his helmet. They are GCR detectors. : )

John, you seem to have been influenced by biodynamic lunacy - hopefully unconsciously:

Next let us take the manure, in whatever form is available, and stuff it into a cow horn, and bury it in the ground at a certain depth – I would say between ¾ and 1 ½ meters … You see, by burying the cow horn with the manure in it, we preserve in the horn the etheric and astral force that the horn was accustomed to reflect when it was on the cow.

Aerials for cosmic forces, according to Rudolf Steiner. Who wasn't barking mad at all. Honest

SayNoToFearmongers,

Elegant.

It would be bizarre if after the alleged burial with manure ritual if they (whoever 'they' are) reused the
horns for drinking mead. Yuck.

@Mike Haseler

Thank you, you are correct about those horns that never existed on helmets!

What? No horns? How disappointing!
My neighbour is called Brunhilde and I'm going to have to forget the mental pictures now!

What about the medieval horn period?

Aug 28, 2011 at 11:35 AM | Unregistered Commentersimpleseekeraftertruth

What about winged helmets? Surely they had those in times past, if Asterix is any kind of accurate guide.

Nah - all that rape and pillage by those nice Vikings was the Medievil Horny Period.

Kipling was right on so many things ... perhaps it's now time for The Saxon to begin hating ...

Mike Haseler, many apologies, clearly I should have rechecked my sources.

My problem is I like drawing helmets with horns on... I probably need therapy.

I thought they had horns on their helmets to discourage dinosaurs from biting them, and that Alfred the Great, having defeated the Vikings kept a horned helmet to store his jam doughnuts.

I learnt my history from studying tree rings you know, so I think I am right , and the science backs me up.

You refer, I take it, to the Tree Ring Circus.
