Maths do better - Josh 118

H/t Chuckles who, on the Make haste more slowly post, wrote:

"Does this mean that John Abrahams comments, reported in the Guardian and Daily Climate, about Dr. Spencer constantly having to correct errors and revise work, are in fact correct?

Just not in the way Abrahams originally intended?"

That should be on the front cover of AR5!

"You would think, if you have a scientific history of being wrong on so many issues, that you would have a little bit of humility before claiming you've overturned scientific evidence yet again. "- Andrew Dessler, Texas A&M University

Do the Team know what the words "think", "wrong", "humility" and "scientific evidence" actually mean?

Lets recount, a rebuttal paper peer-reviewed and accepted for publication by a high profile journal has to be corrected by the rebutted scientists before it can actually be published.

How embarrassing is this dirty little episode for climate science? The Team's credibility has been shredded on this one.

From the Dessler paper credits

"....I thank A. Evans, J. Fasullo, D. Murphy, K. Trenberth, M Zelinka, and AJ Dessler for useful comments"

I do not know what their useful comments were, but they need to get wider credit and recognition for this outstanding contribution to AGW, and ultimately Josh's cartoon!

Superbly done Josh, we must do this more often...

Cam anyone tell me why Abraham and Gleick were involved in this fracas? At all?

Because they are Abrahams and Gleick

Shub

Rent-a-mob, bovva boys drafted in to administer kicks to the groin of someone they thought was incapable of defending himself, motivated by personal greed, vanity and political loathing of those they disagree with, all as directed by the High Priests of the Big Green Bogey Cult.

How is that for your starter for ten?

Josh,

I did not see Wagner and Trenberth sitting in the corner behind Teacher Spencer’s desk with their dunce hats on. Or better yet, see them sitting on the naughty step per Jonathan Jone’s BH comment.

Great cartoon satire.

JW. I am afraid Trenberth got detention for an unpleasant episode of playground bullying. Wagner was sent home with a sick note. Nuff said.

Josh, up until now, I thought Mann was the biggest bully in the AGW playground. But Trenberth is the Daddy now

BTW have you seen the film "Scum"?

Stan,
Thanks for the link

The whole low-down on the Anil Potti saga is at the moment, best covered on http://dukefactchecker.blogspot.com/ - run by Duke University insiders.

Check out that last graph, I think we'll hear more about this!

Very nice.

I'd like to see a cartoon of Dessler, the ‘Google Science Communication Fellow’, explaining how he came to be trying to pass off correlation coefficients statistically indistinguishable from zero as the basis of support for GCMs.

Perhaps an image of Dessler the Magnificent: Tea Leaves Read (crossed out), Phrenologies Felt (crossed out), Climatological Correlations Discerned

@Shub,

Cam anyone tell me why Abraham and Gleick were involved in this fracas? At all?

There are a few possibilities that occur to me:

a) It's a variant of the "teamwork sidestep", first articulated by (whoever actually wrote) the Muir Russell report. This fancy footwork (of which we see a variant in the IPCC's "principle-based ... conflict of interest" guidelines) neatly avoids anyone having to take responsibility for that which was written.

b) Travesty Trenberth™ firmly believes that there is "strength in numbers" [cf his 2010 "reconstruction" of Landsea's 2004 withdrawal from participation in AR4]. However, he could not recruit anyone on The Team to actually participate in such a public display of their despicable antics. Consequently, he decided to enlist some keeners from the minor league.

c) Both of the above!

P.S. Josh, thanks for this brilliant (as usual!) satire :-)
