Climate Neutral

The UN climate people have got their climate emission tentacles everywhere.

 Bonn, 20 October 2015 - The Brazilian Embassy in London hosted a special event today to mark the launch of Climate Neutral Now, the UN-led initiative for increased voluntary climate action, which took place during New York Climate Week in September.

The London event discussed how individuals, companies and governments can contribute to a climate-neutral future by measuring their carbon footprints, reducing emissions where possible, and offsetting the rest with UN-certified emission reductions (CERs), while at the same time investing in sustainable development projects in developing countries. Keynote speakers included representatives from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Brazilian government and the private sector.

Participants at the event heard inspiring examples, such as the successful experiences of the Brazilian government in using CERs to offset carbon emissions from major events. A short film commissioned by the UN climate change secretariat on offsetting the 2014 World Cup’s carbon footprint was also screened. See below.

"a climate-neutral future"

I have no idea what that means.

Climate Neutral Now, the UN-led initiative for increased voluntary climate action

Voluntary?
I support this activity.
Freedom of Religion is a good thing.

It is getting more and more obvious that the whole farrago is nothing but a push for global government, with no democracy evident. Hopefully, this should also be becoming more obvious to the general population, most of whom just go with the flow, but few of whom will want to give up the sovereignty of their country, or (hopefully, anyway) control of their own lives. That said, however, the governments can be quite deceptive (having had a lot of practice and Common Purpose training); once more, power cuts in this country have been postponed by the closure of the power-hungry steel industry, so the mind-numbing diet of X-Strictly Talent on Big Ice in the Jungle can continue. I suspect that they are hoping that the population will only realise when it is too late.

History has shown Kipling was correct; I hope he still is.

And GK Chesterton:

They have given us into the hands of the new unhappy lords,
Lords without anger and honour, who dare not carry their swords.
They fight by shuffling papers; they have bright dead alien eyes;
They look at our labour and laughter as a tired man looks at flies.
And the load of their loveless pity is worse than the ancient wrongs,
Their doors are shut in the evenings; and they know no songs.

We hear men speaking for us of new laws strong and sweet,
Yet is there no man speaketh as we speak in the street.
It may be we shall rise the last as Frenchmen rose the first,
Our wrath come after Russia's wrath and our wrath be the worst.
It may be we are meant to mark with our riot and our rest
God's scorn for all men governing. It may be beer is best.
But we are the people of England; and we have not spoken yet.
Smile at us, pay us, pass us. But do not quite forget.

Very interesting piece in the New York Times a yesterday (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/21/world/americas/brazil-pension-crisis-mounts-as-more-retire-earlier-then-pass-benefits-on.html) showing how it is possible to retire at 44 and receive a pension of up to $100,000 per year. So that is probably why Brazil needs all those indulgences especially with the rainforest being the "lungs of the world." Nice work if you can get it.

I hope John Prescott did not miss out on another free meal ticket by being at some other climate catastrophe conference. Needs careful planning not to miss any of the freebees.

I wonder how much the film cost to make, and who's money was used to make it.

Anything that relates to both the UNFCCC and FIFA can be assumed to be legitimately funded.

Two such noble organisations, with the respect of every nation on Earth, must be the least corrupt groups on the planet.

Reducing their own carbon footprint would certainly be less hypocritical than just continually proclaiming that someone else has to 'act'. It's particularly galling to receive a government leaflet telling us to lower our thermostat down to 18 degrees then to walk into the local tax office and discover it is set at a balmy 26 degrees.

Yes, "voluntary" is, or rather should be, the key word. Come Paris, Brazil will be among the nations who volunteer that the CO2 freaks take a running jump.

Only Sepp Blatter amounts of cash will sway them the other way.

Climate Neutral is what we will all be once we have been phased out.

Contract and Converge is the UN agenda for wealth redistribution, which requires the West to cut back on our use of hydrocarbon energy and allows developing nations to expand theirs so that they can catch us up. Brazil hypocrisy:

"Brazil Company invests 2 billion USD to develop Mozambique vast coal reserves, 2011

The world’s largest iron-ore producer, Brazil’s Vale will double investments in Mozambique to 4 billion US dollars in the next four years, said Chief Executive Officer Roger Agnelli, on Monday.

The Rio de Janeiro-based company invested 2 billion USD since it acquired the Moatize coal mine in 2004, said Agnelli in Tete province, 2,000 kilometres north of the capital Maputo.

Vale started operations at the 1.7 billion USD Moatize this weekend and is expected to produce 11 million metric tons of metallurgic and thermal coal a year once fully operational, the company said. Moatize employs 7,500 workers and its coal will be transported along a 600-kilometer railway line to the port of Beira in central Mozambique."

Messenger: perhaps this is another reason why the blood of the English is being so hastily diluted. Here is Kipling’s tract:

It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late
With long arrears to make good,
When the English began to hate.

They were not easily moved,
They were icy-willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the English began to hate.

Their voices were even and low,
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show,
When the English began to hate.

It was not preached to the crowd,
It was not taught by the State.
No man spoke it aloud,
When the English began to hate.

It was not suddenly bred,
It will not swiftly abate,
Through the chill years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the English began to hate.

I speak as one, though, who can aver that it is not always the people that make the country; it can be the country that makes the people. With this in mind, the plans of the pollies may suffer the same fate as those of Robert Burns’s mice and men. We can but hope – bizarrely, what is happening now is making me favour anarchy; a much-maligned philosophy, traduced, perhaps deliberately, by the left in its apparent lauding of it. Logic surely must indicate that you cannot be a socialist and an anarchist?

Good post, RR, it prompted me to offer this:

God, Give Us Men!

GOD, give us men! A time like this demands
Strong minds, great hearts, true faith and ready hands;
Men whom the lust of office does not kill;
Men whom the spoils of office can not buy;
Men who possess opinions and a will;
Men who have honor; men who will not lie;
Men who can stand before a demagogue
And damn his treacherous flatteries without winking!
Tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog
In public duty, and in private thinking;
For while the rabble, with their thumb-worn creeds,
Their large professions and their little deeds,
Mingle in selfish strife, lo! Freedom weeps,
Wrong rules the land and waiting Justice sleeps.

In trying to understand Climate Science Green Speak, an artificial language, fabricated to match the science, it is easiest to assume that meaningless phrases simply translate into the transfer of hard earned cash, into the bank accounts of other people without benefitting anyone else. Notable examples include "carbon offsetting", "carbon trading", "sustainable development project".

This report includes the legitimising of what has been going on for years, "increased voluntary climate action", whereby people employed at the taxpayers expense, incite freely available gullible idiots to do the hard emotional blackmail for them.

With a report printed on paper, the humble highlighter pen, can be used to highlight the scam opportunities, contained within the report. At meetings, some people, especially report authors, are always easily impressed to see that someone has a paper print, covered in HighLighter pen.

These junkets, usually paid for by the likes of the UN and EU to lobby themselves on climate change, are where the real positive climate feedbacks are. The whole thing has become a parody and as RR says is typical of the ever-stronger drive towards one-world governance.

Tbf, it's been a truly brilliant scam.

Harry Passfield: excellent sentiments, and so sad to say that there are few like that in our present. The only one who comes close is Nigel Farage, and he is still just swimming against the tide – or, perhaps, a rock in the stream behind which others may gather for shelter, though many may be torn away downstream.

We can buttress the rock with our own pebbles with our supporting blogs like this, and talking to our friends and family (with much eye-rolling, no doubt) so that, at the very least, we may be able to say, “I told you so!” (Though such gloating might not be so gleeful when you are in chains.)

Inspiring posts by Radical Rodent and Harry Passfield!

The spirit of the contributors to this thread will not die but what happens to the individuals remains to be seen.

Does anyone have any idea how Brazil reduced the carbon footprint of the World Cup?

A tax on barbeque charcoal?

Electronic transfer of money to Swiss bank accounts to avoid luggage surcharges on suitcases of cash?

Zero carbon nitrogen fertiliser for the football pitches?

Zero carbon glucose drinks for the players?

Carbon payments only allowed in high carat diamonds, as there are no magnetic strips to show up on metal detectors?

Fossil fuels have raised us
From the toil bound earth;
Demonizing carbon is
The path to farce and dearth.
