Bob Carter

I awake this morning to the sad news of the passing of Bob Carter.

I never met Bob, but we exchanged emails from time to time, particularly when I was providing editorial input to his paper on sea-level rise, which I still rate as one of the best things GWPF has published. He had a very sharp mind, but was great fun to work with. His strength of character in the face of years of personal attacks is an example to us all.

Steve McIntyre and Anthony Watts both have more personal recollections.

Hear, hear.

I met Bob and Anne at the Harvard Library at a meeting organised by friend Piers Corbyn. We later corresponded about the three major atmospheric carbon dioxide peaks in the period 1800 to the present. Today is a sad day for all who care about integrity in science. Bob had it in abundance.

A great loss to the battlefield against hysterical AGW! I enjoyed his videos & the papaers he wrote! He will be missed! Oh & hear hear!

Very sad. One of the islands of integrity in the polluted waters of AGW.

Great scientist and great human being. It was my pleasure to meet him a few times.

Bob Carter was a scientist of great integrity and courage. My wife was convinced of the AGW scam many years ago when I showed her one of his interviews. He will be greatly missed by all true scientists and lovers of the truth.

I never met Bob, but this is very sad and he is a great loss to good science and humanity. Condolances to Anne and the family.

Bish - Jo Nova also has a page with many warm tributes (but still none from any alarmists or John Cook University afaik).

Update - Mark Steyn has also written a fine tribute - A Principled Man in a Corrupted Field

Geology, of all the natural sciences, provides an unparalleled perspective on the history of the Earth and its driving processes. It is no accident that, armed with this perspective, AGW scepticism among geologists is extremely high. But Bob was one of the very few blessed with the presentational skills to put this understanding across to the public so lucidly.

Sadly taken from us when the collapse of the AGW scam is so close. Another year and he would have had the satisfaction, not of having fought the good fight which he did so wonderfully, but of being on the winning side.

There is also an excellent tribute to Bob Carter at the Heartland Institute, with the notable inclusion of a great many video clips of him – giving lectures or interviews. Here he is last December, commenting at a demonstration in Paris. And here giving an entertaining and highly insightful presentation in June of the same year.

This extract also provides convenient links to relevant publications:

Dr. Carter was one of the world’s leading authorities on the science of climate change. He was the author of two books on the subject,Climate: The Counter Consensus (2010) and Taxing Air: Facts and Fallacies about Climate Change (2013) and coauthor of several more, including three volumes in the Climate Change Reconsidered series produced by the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) and published by The Heartland Institute. Shortly before his death he coauthored Why Scientists Disagree About Global Warming (2015).

He was a good man, who brought humour and humanity to the debate, as well as scathing criticism of the 'other side' of it. Would that anyone on that 'side' had an ounce of his worth and decency!

His book 'Climate: The Counter Consensus' belongs on the bookshelves of anyone concerned with the shocking waste of time and resources that the CO2 alarmists have brought to the world. It was a great shame that people like Bob Carter had to spend his final years grappling with their excesses, but thank goodness he did. He was a most distinguished contributor, and I trust he will be remembered with affection and admiration for generations to come.

I have read his books, watched videos and attended a presentation by him and Viscount Monckton. He was a wonderful man with a sense of humour. He served his country well against an army of well resourced traitors. Vale Bob, we will remember you.

Lapogus: the tributes continue to flow into Jo Nova’s site, many from the higher echelons of science. Sadly, the despicable vvussell managed to get his click-bait barb in, and there is even some black-hearted, soulless individual who has red-thumbed some tributes. It is times like this that show us the true colours of the Believers.

While not expecting them to be reading this site from the other side of the world, I can only offer my condolences to his wife, family and friends on their loss. Seeing how it is affecting me, it must be devastating for them.

I never met Bob, but I have admired his work for a long time. He had that rare ability to look and sound authoritative combined with deep knowledge. He will be a great loss. He was the expert witness in the case at the High Court to keep Al Gore's movie out of schools. His testimony was crucial in convincing the judge that An Inconvenient Truth was full of exaggerations and misinformation. He was so good that he was flown half way round the world to appear and was willing to do it.

Incredible researcher and extraordinary person. It was my pleasure to meet him a couple times

His work which I discovered on line through reading blogs was excellant. Subsequently I watched one of his lectures on utube which was so powerful a rebuttal of global warming hysteria and which has stood the test of time and will do so in the future.

He also was very courteous when I emailed him out of the blue his response was very helpful.

A very sad loss to science.

Only a very sad rodent could take umbrage at a celebration of the late Dr. Carter's tasteful Paris Climate Hustle debut

that apeared a month before his being eulogized as ' an excellent marine stratigrapher' ?

William Connelly is said to frequent this site from time to time. You should read his "tribute" to Bob Carter - "Science advances one funeral at a time".

What a filthy sleazeball, but entirely in character.

Ed Snack must take a very dim view of the author of this obit::

" I come to bury Schneider not to praise him

De mortuis nil nisi bonum? Yeah, yeah, whatever.
But why, pray, should one even try to find anything nice to say about the man who, more perhaps than any other, was responsible for steering the already pretty nebulous field of "climate science" into a branch of political activism so extreme that it might just as well have rechristened itself "climate Leninism"?

Yes, I'm talking about Stephen Schneider.

Stephen Schneider – who recently died of a heart attack,"
