Discussion > The Moral and Intellectual Poverty of Climate Alarm
Seriously, have you read Soon and Baliunas 2003?
Table 1 and Figs. 1 to 3 summarize the answers to the questions posed here about local climatic anomalies. For Questions (1) and (2), we answered ‘Yes’ if the proxy record showed a period longer than 50 yr of cooling, wetness or dryness during the Little Ice Age, and similarly for a period of 50 yr or longer for warming, wetness or dryness during the Medieval Warm Period.
(The questions: Were the LIA and MWP anomalous?)
They counted unusual wetness and dryness. As Peter Stott pointed out
Their analysis doesn't consider whether the warm/cold periods occurred at the same time. The paper would count warm or wet conditions in one region from 800 to 850 and dry conditions in a separate region from 1200 to 1250 as both demonstrating the Medieval Warm period.
Many scientists whose work was cited in the paper objected to misinterpretation of their work, dendrochronologist Matthew Hughes stated the paper was so fundamentally misconceived and contains so many egregious errors that it would take weeks to list and explain them all
Nothing this bad would get anywhere near Nature, but if it did, heads would undoubtably roll.

Seriously, if you read Climate Audit yourself, rather than relying on higher paid Hockey Teamsters for their Russian Dope Testing expertise, you would not end up lying so much.
More news from the squalid, malevolent world of climate scaremongers - legal section this time. The fatuous legal action against Exxon has collapsed: https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/12/10/breaking-exxonknew-lawsuit-crashes-and-burns/
"The sordid history of this abuse, as we knew it in August 2018, is here.
Much more is now known, some of which CLW posted in recent weeks.
Much more is coming."
A welcome come-uppance. Legal standards are so much higher than academic ones, these, days, but surely to goodness, the day will come for all those who sought to give some kind of academic respectability to the CO2 Scare Madness.will be seen as a disgrace by the whole wide world.

Even AGs are now being made to look like liars by Climate Science's bogus claims. Corrupt politicians should be used to it now, but none of them have worked out that the greatest threat to civilization is Climate Science.
John Shade, (from your WUWT Link) corruption lies deceit etc are considered normal for Climate Science.
Shukla/RICO Conspiracy/George Mason University, State Attorney Generals available for hire, surprise surprise a "Democrat" hoping to be US President, false accusations etc etc etc

News Update: Greta is Time Magazine's Person of the Year
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-50740324
And the AGU update their position statement:
Human activities are changing Earth’s climate, causing increasingly disruptive societal and ecological impacts. Such impacts are creating hardships and suffering now, and they will continue to do so into the future - in ways expected as well as potentially unforeseen. To limit these impacts, the world’s nations have agreed to hold the increase in global average temperature to well below 2°C (3.6°F) above pre-industrial levels. To achieve this goal, global society must promptly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions must reach net-zero by around 2070 to have a good chance of limiting warming to a 2° C increase and by about 2050 to achieve a more protective limit of a 1.5°C (2.7°F) increase. Either target will require a substantial near-term transition to carbon-neutral energy sources, adoption of more carbon-efficient food systems and land use practices, and enhanced removal of CO2 from the atmosphere through a combination of ecological and technological approaches.
Society must also prepare to cope with and adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change. Done strategically, efficiently, and equitably, the needed transformations provide a pathway toward greater prosperity and well-being, while inaction will prove very costly for humans and other life on the planet.

So it Goes.

The World is realising that there is no point in wasting further time money and effort. It is all based on lies as repeated by Phil Clarke.
"Environmentalists and observers have been barred from UN climate talks in Madrid after a protest inside the conference.
Around 200 climate campaigners were ejected after staging a sit in, preventing access to one of the negotiating halls.
Protesters said they were "pushed, bullied and touched without consent."
In the wake of the disruption all other observers were then barred from the talks."
GC. You missed your ending - "So it goes".

It is a terrible tragedy that we need more extremist deranged protesters to disrupt the mildly deranged racketeers to ensure that they are all ignored by the idiots making political decisions.
The AGU has been infiltrated and damaged from within to make an exhibition of itself over climate variation. The exploitation of Greta is a disgrace and the movement for which Phil seeks to be an apologist should be utterly ashamed of itself..
I see Anthony Watts has been at the latest AGU event: https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/12/11/the-manntastic-climate-doom-panel-at-agu19/
As for Greta, she may not feel honoured to have joined these characters from the front page of the Time Rag:
Adolf Hitler 1938 Joseph Stalin 1939 Joseph Stalin (again) 1942 Ayatollah Khomeini 1979
The magazine is not a good judge of virtue.
Delingpole is on to the appalling exploitation of this vulnerable youngster: https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/12/11/hitler-stalin-greta-thunberg-times-totalitarian-icons/
Here is another commentator with some compassion for the poor girl:
'The Swedish teenager is not some science prodigy who graduated young from some Ivy League school with an advanced agree in physics or anything like that. Rather, the daughter (and granddaughter) of famous actors and opera singers suffers from Asperger's syndrome, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and selective mutism. I'm no medical professional, but these things might have been brought on when (according to public sources), starting at the age of eight, Thunberg was subjected to such a barrage of climate panic that she eventually became depressed and lethargic, and also developed an eating disorder.'
https://pjmedia.com/vodkapundit/video-greta-thunberg-rips-world-leaders-at-the-u-n/
The abuse of this ill-informed youngster certainly deserves a place in any museum of exhibits on the moral and intellectual poverty of climate alarmism.

What could possibly go wrong for St Greta as so many klimate kiddies throwaway their education to be like her?
Aung San Suu Kyi: How a peace icon ended up at a genocide trial
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-asia-50709830/aung-san-suu-kyi-how-a-peace-icon-ended-up-at-a-genocide-trial
"Aung San Suu Kyi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991. The decision of the Nobel Committee mentions:[53]
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 1991 to Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar (Burma) for her non-violent struggle for democracy and human rights.
... Suu Kyi's struggle is one of the most extraordinary examples of civil courage in Asia in recent decades. She has become an important symbol in the struggle against oppression ...
... In awarding the Nobel Peace Prize for 1991 to Aung San Suu Kyi, the Norwegian Nobel Committee wishes to honour this woman for her unflagging efforts and to show its support for the many people throughout the world who are striving to attain democracy, human rights and ethnic conciliation by peaceful means.
— Oslo, 14 October 1991"
What does it mean to be Person of the Year? The title goes to “the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year, for better or for worse,” as former Managing Editor Walter Isaacson wrote in the 1998 issue. That means the person is not necessarily a hero—Adolf Hitler, for example, was Person of the Year in 1938, with a cover showing him playing a ghastly organ and a cover line touting, “From the unholy organist, a hymn of hate.” Stalin got the nod twice, while the selection of Iran’s Ayatullah Khomeini in 1979, when the magazine called him “the mystic who lit the fires of hatred.”

For a teenage girl, she sure does have a lot of folks well and truly triggered. :-)

LOL.
Explain how this study, of the Antarctic Plateau, indicates low global climate sensitivity? (Hint: it doesn't, NTZ is being as dishonest as usual)
And Tricks Zone must be the only site remaining on the planet where you can cite Miskolczi with a straight face.
You need to do better than that.
Dec 12, 2019 at 6:27 PM Phil Clarke
.... but 97% of the time you lie anyway. Why should anyone take your word for anything?
I think my favourite NTZ-ism was when he showed a flat graph from a paper on North Atlantic sea surface temperatures in a compilation of 'no warming' graphs, but carefully omitted the graph caption - which reported the data had been detrended before plotting.
No warming because: detrended data shows no trend! Snopes nails the technique:
NTZ employs three main strategies: straw man arguments that falsely change the evidence for global warming into something that is easier to refute; the inclusion of papers wholly irrelevant to the reality of anthropogenic climate change; and the inclusion of papers (or conference abstracts) that almost certainly underwent little or no peer review process.
Another quality source.
Maybe James D can make it clearer for you:
'Yes, you’ve got to hand it to what’s left of Time magazine: it hasn’t lost its unerring ability to put its finger on the pulse of the zeitgeist, invariably managing to name a Person of the Year who sums up perfectly the madness of the age.
In the 1930s, it was the twin evils of Nazism and Soviet Communism.
In the 1970s, it was militant Islam.
Today, it’s Environmentalism.'

Do you make up your own lies or are they supplied to you so you do not have to think?
actually most folk I know who are "triggered" by Greta Thunberg couldn't give a rat's arse about the girl herself - even given her relatively posh Swedish background her vocabulary isn't that of any 16 year old Swedish girl - it's a contrived lexicon of lefty eco-agitprop crafted and polished by a small committee and slobbered over by the likes of PC.
Does Time actually still kill trees or are they more "Independent" - like?
The UK Election qualifies as a rejection of the Green Blob in the UK and EU. The Electorate can spot the liars in Climate Science and how they insulate their nests with other people's money.
You are fixated GC, the UK election result had nothing to do with climate and everything to do with Brexit.
Dec 13, 2019 at 7:26 AM AK
But The Guardian, BBC, etc said the Election WAS about Global Warming, though their incomes may have depended on them saying that and giving all the free publicity to St Greta
Indeed. One welcome feature of our recent politics is that the environment in general and climate change in particular have moved from the fringe to centre stage. The Conservative manifesto was judged amongst the worst on the environment, yet even they say 'Our first Budget will prioritise the environment'. They have reaffirmed the commitment to net zero emissions by 2050, and made spending pledges worth £billions and millions of jobs on promoting offshore wind, R&D on carbon capture, nuclear and hydrogen power, electric vehicle infrastructure, flood defences, tackling marine plastic pollution, re-forestation and energy efficiency.
You might almost say the 'Green Blob' are the new mainstream.
