Discussion > The Moral and Intellectual Poverty of Climate Alarm

"the environment in general and climate change in particular have moved from the fringe to centre stage"

It would seem that folk in other countries (Holland, Germany, France, Chile etc ) don't agree and are taking the time to show their displeasure while others pay lip service and keep on doing what they're doing (China / India ) - no? Some don't <horror> even subscribe the narrative pushed by the NGOs..... Look at the farcical parade of nitwits at COP in Madrid.

That the MSM are riding this particular hobby horse and as far as the UK is concerned are playing down (or downright ignoring) the protests in the countries mentioned above is glaringly obvious to anybody bothered to look further than the diet of grotesque bilge served up in the Anglophone media,

so bollocks actually Phil

The corruption of the AGU has been rankling Anthony Watts, and no wonder:

'It is a sad state of affairs. AGU has clearly relinquished their scientific organization and membership to political winds of change that is connected to the funding cash cow out of Washington.

At the end of the keynote address, no questions were taken from the audience or the press (which I represented there along with others). Immediately, a security guard was posted at the stage to prevent people from approaching the speakers to ask questions.

Apparently, they don’t like inconvenient questions.

In my opinion, this entire event represented the most shameful and shocking lapse of ethics I’ve ever seen in a scientific organization. With this one meeting, AGU has crossed the threshold from being a science organization, to one of “anything goes” advocacy.'

(my bolding)

John Shade

the AGU malarkey has been brewing for some time - once the entryists have a grip they get quite totalitarian ....

elsewhere ....

Karl Marx, 1848: "Workers of the world, unite!"

Jeremy Corbyn, 2019: "Woke-rs of the world, unite!"

yeah.... that's "mainstream"

Shifting goalposts again. I was referring to this country, obvs, I don't remember hundreds of thousands on climate marches before. A party leaders' debate just on climate? Extinction Rebellion?

Bollocks back.

Nobody takes Tony seriously John.

hundreds of thousands? - not the same crowd of soap dodgers being bussed around ? My local XR crew manged at least a half dozen outings.

I saw the recent Dutch farmers protest and it was massive - tractors blocking the motorway for miles - as far as I could see from a bridge which was likely 7 or 8 miles (it being Holland). Google maps showed utter gridlock in central Holland.

- been to the Abbott school of arithmetic?

the managed typo seems appropriate - I think I'll leave it.

In the context of the UK election result I wrote 'our politics'. Not 'Dutch politics'

AGU and Climate Science are happy to rely on liars. Phil Clarke, your lying is routine, is this a fair representation of 100% of Climate Science or just 97%?

The corruption of climate science is neatly exposed in this quote from the home page of the Thongchai Thailand blog

'The explanation of the oddity that all climate impacts are bad, that all bad things are climate impacts, and that in the science of climate impacts there is no good impact and no attribution failure in the face of large uncertainties is that climate science is not unbiased objective scientific inquiry but agenda driven to provide the rationale needed for a pre-determined climate action agenda. The climate action agenda is not made to fit the science but rather it is the science that has to fit the climate action agenda.'

Scroll down from that quote, and see nearly 200 studies so far that reflect the blogger's expertise and interest in science and statistics... He is Jamal Munshi.

Poor Greta. She has fallen into bad company, and is now well on her way to being just another left-wing thug enraged by whatever:

'Greta Thunberg tells cheering crowd 'we will make sure we put world leaders against the wall' if they do not tackle global warming as she attends climate protest in Turin'

Incitement? Conspiracy? Mass Shooting for ideological purposes? Hate Crimes?

Is the real reason she doesn't fly because she is banned?

If all Hockey Teamsters were classified as terrorists, the Carbon Footprint of the IPCC would be significantly reduced and the world would be a more prosperous and happy place.

No need to go all the way to Thailand to find science deniers, Mr Shade. There are perfectly good ones in this country.

One of them is even a Viscount ;-)

Those "science deniers" should be up against the wall, Clarke?

Surely Mme Guillotine would be better for the environment?

Hockey Teamsters are untrustworthy liars and should be in the Bangkok Hilton, though other residents may complain about the deterioration in air quality.

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/12/14/the-dangerous-winds-of-trying-to-prevent-climate-change/

"The study, published in the journal Joule, found that if wind power supplied all U.S. electricity demands, it would warm the surface of the continental United States by 0.24 degree C (0.43 Fahrenheit). That is far more than any reduction in warming achieved by totally decarbonizing the nation’s electricity sector (around 0.1 C or 0.2 F)) during the 21st century – assuming climate models are correct about the amount of warming that carbon dioxide emissions are allegedly causing."

Its not a 'new' study, it was published a year ago.

The BBC has long been a disgrace on the climate front (and on many others where it sees its role as a manipulator of society rather than as an honest news service). The blatantly activist ' environmental correspondents' are symptoms of the corruption of what was once an admired institution and is now a centre for leftwing propaganda. Paul Homewood has just published a telling analysis of an 'analysis' of COP25 by one of these BBC agents:

'This whole paragraph reveals Harrabin’s anti Brexit and anti Trump agenda.

It is clear that this whole section, misleadingly titled “Analysis”, is nothing more than the political prejudice of Roger Harrabin and a few of his like minded chums. It certainly has no relation to objective and accurate journalism.

Worse still, he uses the views of “environmentalists” to hide the fact that he is really just presenting his own opinions.'

Good to see this type of corruption being exposed. Roll on the day when the licence fee is abolished!

The hideous, unhinged, melodramatic mentality of the worst kind of climate alarmist is to be seen in this new video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eyJevf-Blg

Why do they produce such trash? Well, for personal advantage in this case (what a surprise!). It is aimed at helping a member of the US Democrat Party get chosen as a Senate candidate: https://freebeacon.com/politics/dem-senate-candidate-runs-disaster-porn-climate-ad/

This is not the gutter. It is below that in the sewers. The utterly irresponsible alarmism of a handful of scientists. exploited to the max by schemers intent on destroying industrial civilisation (Maurice Strong for example), has led to this sorry pass: a seemingly unending flow of depravity, and intellectual failures. This thread can only be catching but a few of them.

"Why do they produce such trash?"

US Taxpayers fund most of it. If they do not have to anymore, those in it for greed will look elsewhere and the dillusioned dreamers will go back to reading teabags and sleeping in crop circles.

The Lancet has of course long been infiltrated and taken over by communist nutjobs, so of course they milk the CO2 scare as much as they can. And so, of course, as night follows day, they publish climate junk science. Paul H has taken a look at their latest nonsense: https://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2019/12/20/lancets-latest-climate-report-is-full-of-errors/

After highlighting some falsehoods, and wilful ignorance, he concludes 'The Lancet long ago sold its soul to climate alarmism, so none of this comes as any surprise.

But the real tragedy is that there are so many health problems out there in the real world, which can only be solved by lifting third world countries out of poverty.

The Lancet’s obsession with climate change will, I suspect, simply make things worse.'

More loss to society thanks to the needless, but handy for revolutionaries, alarm over CO2.

We really are in a storm of dross from 'scientists' and 'activists' and 'activist scientists' intent on scaring not just children but adults too. Carefully chosen events or fragments of data or even just figments of their tortured imaginations can be deployed surrounded with emotive language, exhortations, and displays of sanctimony that would make a vicar blush. Here is a detailed takedown of such stuff on the topic of melting ice: https://tambonthongchai.com/2019/12/16/global-warming-melting-greenland/

Do tell us why you think Mann's Hockey Stick is not rubbish and why you were so convinced by Joelle Gergis.

Is there something about lies, fraud and deception that comes naturally to you?

Dec 21, 2019 at 10:05 PM | Unregistered Commentergolf charlie

The MBH98/99 studies (aka Hockey Stick) studies have stood the test of time. They were imperfect, as are all papers, however the criticisms that have merit (eg non-centred PCA) do not impact the studies' conclusions and those that might affect the conclusions have no merit.

Ditto, Gergis.

John Shade has found a Thai science denier and blogger and presents him as an example of the title of this thread. I am interested in whether John believes this guy's BS or has just linked to him because he is a fellow traveller.

There is no way that the geological contribution to the melting of the Antarctic ice is significant.

Ice loss in Antarctica is mostly geological and not atmospheric

Tell me John, do you believe this?

Tut, tut, Mr Clarke. This is what is known as lying by omission; let us look at the full quote, and put it into context, shall we?
Ice loss in Antarctica is mostly geological and not atmospheric as can be seen in the lopsided ice loss statistics in geologically active regions described in a related post [LINK]
As the area known as West Antarctica just so happens to be sitting on about 90 recently-discovered volcanoes, perhaps that quote is more accurate than you might hope. This person might help you to understand what might really be going on.
