I see the subsidy mafia didn't get their dream of diesel scrappage and higher fuel taxes this budget.
Expect it was the intention of the PR firms to fail this time so they can collect the fees upto the Autumn budget ..and ramp up the campaign.

R4 Midnight news had a news-vert about “research in Guildford” suggests when traffic is heavy at rush hour you should raise the hood of babies prams (presumably to stop particulates falling on them)
(but then there are plenty of natural particulates eg pine pollen, never mind natural fires)
(Personally I don’t agree with bonfires and fireworks, but greens seems to love them instead.)

Something strange: 8 hours ago that 4 day forecast for London was Green and Yellow ie the lowest 2 categories now they seem to have all been bumped up 1 whole category.
So the orange category partially appears.
Stewgreen: interestingly, if you look further afield (though it doesn’t cover Sheffield, despite the recommendation), such as Dubai, you will note that the air quality is in the red over much of the area – the sparsely-populated southern Sahara, northern Tibet, and the Arabian Sea to name a few smaller areas where cars, of any description, are likely to be fewer than could be found on Chipping Ongar High Street at any time. It would appear that, much as they might wish this were so, the primary degradation of air quality is not necessarily by cars or diesel engines.

now 5 are greenish and 5 reddish ie the same forecasts as I looked out earlier are spreading out
I can understand wind would change forecasts
But FORECASTS are no good if they are so changeable

I don't think research is invalid cos of who funds it, but it is one thing to consider.

Perhaps this is evidence that the powers that be have realised that climate change is a dying duck, so they have to generate another scare – and it looks as though it will be diesel. A prime target, as it is yet another villain that is a child of the industrialised world – so attacking diesel is also consigning so much of the progress made into yet another sign of the “evils” of western civilisation. Despite diesel being so much more efficient than petrol is really irrelevant; the intention will be to demonise this form of internal combustion engine until, like cigarettes, it will be lurking behind shuttered shelves and plain packets, with any who dare use it having heads shaken and much tut-tutting in their general direction. Once that has been achieved – and the parallels with the anti-smoking campaign are startlingly, as the focus has now moved from smoking onto sugar (and others) – then so will the focus move onto the demonic petrol engine. The constant bludgeoning of society to “conform” to idealistic views is beginning to get a bit tedious.
I m not against cleaning air pollution.

Then she starts spouting that smarter signs will be a cost effective way of reducing pollution.
- No they may/may not get people to switch their engines off.
Whether that actually makes much difference to air pollution needs air quality scientists to assess.
She's just assumed it will... I argued previously that such maths don't add up , a non labouring engine isn't pumping out pollution.
