Discussion > President Trump

If you are concerned by this, you have "crossed the line."

"In reality, there was abundant reason to be concerned about the priorities and even the loyalties of Muslim candidates, given the fact that mainstream Islamic teaching holds that one’s allegiance to Islam, and to the worldwide Islamic community (umma), transcends all other loyalties, including one’s loyalty to one’s nation. Whenever such concerns arose, they were buried under accusations of “Islamophobia,” and legitimate concerns were ignored."

The MPD call in help from Father Christmas to get to the bottom of this.

Another call for Trump to get the Nobel Peace Prize:

"He is guided by two things, which seem to be absent from so many politicians. He has firstly common sense and he is only guided by a national interest, and therefore, in our circumstances, an interest in the Western alliance.

What he has done with the Trump Doctrine is that he has decided that he would no longer have America involved in endless wars, wars which achieve nothing, but the killing of thousands of young Americans and enormous debts imposed on America."

For the MIC, Trump has definitely crossed the line.

Very strange: the lack of any comment so far of the performances of the presidential nominees at yesterday’s debate. Is it because Biden didn’t show his expected weaknesses or Trump displaying his lack of appreciation for debate etiquette?

AK, did you watch the whole debate? Which channels did you tune into?

"...he's a liar..." "shut up, man." Is this the etiquette that Trump does not appreciate?

Zerohedge does a little post-mortem:

Still waiting to find out what Democrats have invented about Trump this time, based on their own experiences of Russian hospitality, with a bit of extra Chinese spice, fruitiness and Fusion cookery sprinkled in.

Yes I watched long tranches of the debate and from different sources. If I remember correctly

Evil tablet sent my e-mail before I'd finished. Was going to write "if I remembered correctly Biden reacted to Trump's interruptions ignoring the non-loser status of one of his sons and concentrating on the former drug habit of his other son. Given Trump's taunting I thought Biden showed some restraint."

More than 70 interruptions from Trump in 90 minutes. Is this a Guinness World Record? Probably a mistake in that it didn’t allow Biden to show any frailties.

Sep 30, 2020 at 1:14 PM | Unregistered CommenterAK

AK, maybe just a coincidence but it went quiet in here after a few quotes from the self-styled 'good kind of Islamaphobe'.

I watched the whole thing on CSPAN. I was going to just watch the first two segments but found it hard to look away, in much the same was as a car-crash is compelling. Too often it turned into an unedifying display of rudeness, personal insults, cross-talking and interruptions. The moderator was out of his depth, but lacking the ability to kill the mics, there was not much he could do.

There were agreed rules including an uninterrupted two minutes at the start of each segment. Trump did not stick to this once, indeed both candidates were upbraided for interruptions. Trump did repeat several times the lie about Hunter Biden receiving millions from Russia and Biden Senior did take objection to Trump's recent description of captured servicemen as 'losers' with reference to his deceased son, Beau. But the 'shut up' was in response to Trump repeatedly preventing him from finishing a sentence. Video

If you don't want to be branded a liar, well don't lie. Trump claimed of his rallies lacking masks and social distancing 'So far we have had no problem whatsoever'. In fact there was a dramatic surge in new coronavirus cases after the Tulsa event, including a fatality. He described the Democrat response to H1N1 swine flu as 'a disaster', when the Obama administration declared an emergency two weeks after the first diagnosis, as opposed to seven for Trump and COVID, after which Trump was still claiming the virus would magically disappear. So far, 16 US citizens have died of COVID for every 1 who succumbed to swine flu - a number that will likely double. Trump falsely claimed Biden opposed his China travel restriction - which was never a ban, 35,000 people came in from China in the month after it was imposed, meaning its effect was likely minimal. He claimed a vaccine was 'weeks away' when the experts are predicting next summer for general availability, that he will bring down drug prices by 80 or 90%, that his policies meant that the price of insulin was already 'like water'. He falsely said Biden was completely wrong to say 100 million Americans have pre-existing conditions, and he falsely claimed that Biden supported the Sanders/AOC Green New Deal. That's just a selection, CNN characterised his delivery as an avalanche of lying.

Trump also declined repeated opportunities to condemn violence from right wing and white supremacist groups, the most he would do was to instruct the Proud Boys to 'Stand down and stand by', and one PB group have reportedly added that phrase to their logo.

And he also declined to promise he would honour the election result, instead repeating his baseless attacks on the integrity of mail in voting.

The betting markets immediately showed a swing towards Biden, but I am not sure anyone can be said to be the winner of this clusterfck.

Phil. Yes your view is correct and more balanced than mine was. Both of them behaved deplorably in the end. Nevertheless I felt Biden showed he could stand up to Trump and Trump lost no supporters by behaving as he has always done. But...

Phil Clarke, a phobia is an irrational fear of something. The Charlie Hebdo victim's fear, or that of the people of Gothenburg, or....or..... etc. is not irrational. If you have evidence that I am Islamophobic, over to you.

As for the debate, I did not waste my time on what was bound to be low-grade political theatre. Moderated by Chris Wallace! Did anyone expect a real debate on policy? What is Biden's position on the Green New Deal? No idea from what he said last night, but if he wins, that's what we'll get.

Vice President Joe Biden: (59:08)
No, I don’t support the Green New Deal.

President Donald J. Trump: (59:10)
Oh, you don’t? Oh, well, that’s a big statement.

You just lost the radical left.

Vice President Joe Biden: (59:15)
I support [crosstalk 00:59:17] the Biden plan that I put forward.

Chris Wallace: (59:19)
Okay.

Vice President Joe Biden: (59:19)
The Biden plan, which is different than what he calls the radical Green New Deal.

The Biden Plan

The Biden Plan would be economic suicide. Is it the case that the radical Green New Deal is suicide but pulling the trigger earlier?

Political extremists favour anything and everything to make Mann's Hockey Stick avoid examination in a Court of Law. Framing the innocent, depriving Human Rights to the most vulnerable, corrupt politics and regimes, theft from taxpayers, economic destruction, racist abuse, civil disorder etc. Stalin and Mao would be so impressed with how US Democrats have progressed

Yes, you are still stuck in your own political prejudices, that now include supporting corrupt foreign regimes, socialist justice and mass poverty.

‘Climate emergency’ means house arrest: COVID ‘has revealed the inner-tyrants of many politicians’

By Peter Murphy – Policy Analyst, Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT)

“Under the pretense of a ‘climate emergency,’ politicians and bureaucrats will increasingly impose Covid-like restrictions on our jobs, transportation, food choices, housing and much else based the purported need to ‘reduce greenhouse gases.’

Not surprisingly, the once Golden State is leading the way. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission, a government agency in the San Francisco Bay area…recommends billions of dollars for job training, affordable housing, high-speed internet, adaptions for “sea-level rise” (est. cost: $19 billion), “retrofit” residential buildings ($15 billion), and “enable carbon neutrality” for all existing public and commercial buildings ($18 billion).

I liked the bit where Wallace channelled his inner primary school teacher and the President of the United States deployed the 'But he's worse, Miss' defence…..

Chris Wallace: (25:09)
We have six segments. We have ended that segment. We’re going to go to the next segment. In that segment, you each are going to have two uninterrupted moments. In those two interrupted minutes, Mr. President, you can say anything you want. I’m going to ask a question about race, but if you want to answer about something else, go ahead. But I think that the country would be better served, if we allowed both people to speak with fewer interruptions. I’m appealing to you, sir, to do that.

President Donald J. Trump: (25:37)
Well, and him too.

Chris Wallace: (25:38)
Well, frankly, you’ve been doing more interrupting than he has.

President Donald J. Trump: (25:40)
Well, that’s all right, but he does plenty.

Chris Wallace: (25:41)
Well, sir, less than-

President Donald J. Trump: (25:43)

Chris Wallace: (25:43)
No, less than you have. Let’s please continue on.
