Peter: interesting quotes indeed - but none of them referenced to any quotable source? Makes them less useful.

Andrew,

Have you ever seen these (collected) quotes I wonder? "Frightening" is a word to describe them.

I came across them on Sunday morning (I was performing my Sunday religious observance by reading your wise words) on the blog c3 (which I have never seen before by the way)

Just before 8am, after the weather forecast on Radio 4 which said the London temperature might go up to 29F today, I heard the woman commentator say "How are we going to manage? People will be fainting in the streets!"

Presumably as people do when they go to the South of France or Greece or Italy or Turkey or Tunisia on holiday.....

BBC news have just announced that the Sunday Times have been ordered to hand transcripts of interviews with Chris Huhne's ex-wife (re. speeding points) over to Essex police ... the net appears to be closing.

To my mind they have only two options: prosecute on the evidence available or offer Chris Huhne'e ex-wife immunity for providing evidence under oath. Failure to do either would bbe a gross dereliction of duty.

It's clearly so profitable for the solar installers under the feed in tariffs, that they can afford to give them away, and still make money.

Milipede wants NGO's to address Labour Party Conferences, as if having an open door into Govt Depts wasn't enough.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2011/jun/24/labour-ed-miliband-reform

Non-party members, such as Greenpeace or other NGOs, would be entitled to speak at party conference as "registered consultees". Miliband said: "In order to have a good conversation at party conference, you've got to expand the conversation."

The collision of Science and Politics

http://www.scienceblogs.de/zoonpolitiko ... iament.php

'Koch-Mehrin is the second high profile German politician who lost her title because of plagiarism. She resigned as Vice-President of the European Parliament because of the scandal. But yesterday the European Parliament has put the fox in charge of the hen house. Silvana Koch-Mehrin was elected as a full member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) of the European Parliament. This committee is amongst other things in charge of the EU research policy and space policy. To have someone who lost her PhD because of plagiarism to be member of a commission in charge of research policy is an insult for honest academics and an embarrassment for the European Parliament.'

Yes, I was ready for it, matthu – I’ve tried to debate with Jeremy before. When he closed that thread after it became rather challenging for him, I said (on Climate Change Dispatch) to my fellow victim, “It’s not a surprise though. History is replete with examples of true believers silencing the opposition. Some of them are most unpleasant - at least Jeremy doesn't (yet) have the power to send you to the death camp or the Gulag”. A bit harsh perhaps. And he at least hasn’t given up – he’s continued to probe Jeremy on his “Guidelines” thread:

I wonder how long it will be before that’s closed too?
