The EESC president’s statement on the natural disaster in Japan and the Pacific region
11 Mar 2011
Speaker: Staffan Nilsson, Organisation: EESC
"The earthquake and tsunami will clearly have a severe impact on the economic and social activities of the region. Some islands affected by climate change have been hit. Has not the time come to demonstrate on solidarity – not least solidarity in combating and adapting to climate change and global warming? Mother Nature has again given us a sign that that is what we need to do."

Clear link between how developed a country is and how bad it is affected by natural disasters, just something to consider before the EU starts a head long rush back to the stone age.

‘Global warming destroying archaeological treasures’ frozen for thousands of years
http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1365206/Global-warming-destroying-archaeological-treasures-frozen-thousands-years.html
Research by experts at the University of Edinburgh's Business School!
Somebody called Humphrey Hawksley on the BBC News Channel, talking over footage of a gigantic whirlpool caused by the earthquake: ".... these are the pictures we didn't see in 2004/2005.....and Tuvalu the tiny island in the Pacific, already threatened by Global Warming.... waves which could be higher than the island itself."
Maybe Tuvalu is also threatened by intangible threats such as a new dance craze or an ineffective tourist board. When there's a megatonne of water causing great destruction, can't they just shut the @~!!% up about Global Warming?
Imagine Humphrey Hawksley being sucked into a whirlpool, manfully jabbering into his microphone until the last gurgle: "At least one won't have to worry about global warming any more. By the way, did I mention Global Warming?"
