"Britain's weather should be trumpeted to tourists because it is better than that enjoyed in Rome, Sydney or even the Caribbean, ministers have said."

Mail Online

Have ministers been given a new briefing by the Met Office? Looks as if there is another barbecue summer in store.

I slag them off often enough so I had better give them credit where credit is due -

a story by Jonathan Amos on Antarctic ice which freezes from the bed rock up - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12619342

no mention of global warming / climate change!

update - sorry missed the inevitable:

"The new data will add to the understanding of how the ice sheet expands and moves, which in turn will inform researchers as they try to grasp how Antarctica might change in a warmer world."

Repeat of Beautiful Minds last night now on BBC4 iplayer

James Lovelock

Great minds don't think alike. In fact, offbeat thinking has led to some of the greatest scientific discoveries of our age.
In the second of a three-part series uncovering the minds behind some of the greatest scientific discoveries of our age, James Lovelock explains how his maverick way of thinking led him not only to technical breakthroughs in atmospheric detection systems on Earth and Mars, but also to Gaia - a new way of thinking about the Earth as a holistic, self-regulating system.
He tells of his struggle against the scientific consensus of the day, the ridicule of his peers and his passionate belief that the mainstream scientific establishment stifles intellectual creativity.

Bob Ward alert! He's not happy with Johnny Ball and Andrew Neil.

"Why the BBC's 'impartial' stance on climate science is irresponsible. Sceptics too often go unchallenged when they make inaccurate and misleading statements on BBC programmes."

Apparently despite being in and out of Chris Huhne's office on a regular basis the greenies don't think they have enough influence and lobby muscle, so they want to set up a 'People's watchdog'.
