The greens and their psychosomatics
A time-honoured tactic of those who oppose an industrial development is to claim that it causing ill health. Certainly the opponents of the Horse Hill oil well have wasted no time in setting out the chronic ailments that yesterday's successful flow test have caused.
Most prominently, local resident Lisa Scott has described the horrors of her early morning jog:
It was not a fast or longer run than normal but at three points near the site I felt short of energy. I normally run 10-12k and never stop. But this was only 4-4.5k. It was like running through an invisible plume three times. I felt something strange. I needed to walk in case I fell. I could feel it in my lungs.
That will be the same Lisa Scott who was pictured a few days ago with Natalie Bennett. Lisa's the one in the middle, leading the protest group.
I'm not entirely convinced that Ms Scott's ailment isn't psychosomatic.

"I'm not entirely convinced that Ms Scott's ailment isn't psychosomatic." As opposed to just making it all up.
You're a generous soul Bish to view this as anything but lying.
As I understand it, the Human brain is a very poweful tool, & many people are prone to auto-suggestion by another. Once one knows what symptoms to believe to expect from certain actions, they begin to display them!
Until anything is reported and identified as abnormal in the air, I suggest Ms Scott stops exercising and consults her doctor ASAP. Given the sudden change in her physical experience this could be indicative of a serious health problem. Best to be safe than sorry.
It won't only be her short of energy if she gets her way.
Fruitcakes and looneys come to mind. Anyway, what are they doing fly-tipping all that rubbish in the countryside?
Perhaps she simply can't think about the horrors of CO2 and jog at the same time. Could that "invisible plume" have consisted of CO2? It is certainly invisible and perhaps Greens have more sensitive lungs than other people.
In fairness it should be pointed out that opponents of wind turbines sometimes claim that the noise and/or ultrasound they produce is bad for your health.
Roy: It is proven that noise from wind turbines, including excess amplitude modulation and infrasound, produce ill-health effects.
It might give the country bumpkins of Surrey some appreciation of what industrialisation of the countryside really means. Perhaps then they'll be able to 'project' the feelings of those that have windmills and solar parks imposed them?
Why is Natalie so happy to be seen next to a fly-tipping site? I hope there are no foul odours emanating from that site - could be a risk to health. Shall we complain?
"The company’s share price rose 41% on the day, to 1.98p and Mr Sanderson said the flow could get better"
Horse Hill refinery anyone?
"Trebles all round!", I think
"It was like running through an invisible plume three times. I felt something strange. I needed to walk in case I fell. I could feel it in my lungs."
Strange that Natalie didn't tweet about the alleged phenomenon following her visit to the site yesterday.
Stupid woman, it was the rubbish fermenting, if they are very lucky it could catch fire. But where are the Council jobsworths?.......or even the police to clear them and extract fines?
I suspect a great many people have been at least somewhat disturbed by the panic over CO2 that they have been exposed from primary school onwards, even unto tertiary education and beyond. Some will ignore it. Some will be traumatised by it. Some will take the advice about 'doing something, anything, to stop it' and join events such as the one illustrated above.
The amount of pastoral and psychologically-sensitive care that such people would benefit from is probably well beyond current resources, but I live in hope that considerable effort will be put into it soon. Making sure that our schools are relatively risk-free zones, free of the panic-merchants and their awful propaganda, would be a sensible start.
Bet when she is in a car, using plastic or heating her house using fossil fuel derived electricity, gas or oil her symptoms magically disappear.
When they say local - how local is local? Could be within 50 miles + or - a few miles!
I do hope she has carried out an environmental impact assessment on the inevitable surgery she will require in a few years, when her joints give way after all that pointless exercise.
Despite her incomprehensible ordeal, she'll be ok. I'm 100% certain of it. The one to her right is a druid.
Ms Scott is quoted as saying " I am extremely concerned about the injection of high pressure water and chemicals and the release of potentially huge and unstoppable methane gas under my home."
So presumably the "invisible plume" through which Ms Scott ran three times was either water droplets, vapour from the un-named chemicals, or possibly unstoppable methane gas.
I presume that UKOG will be able to tell us about the quantity of water and chemicals injected under pressure into the test well - if by some chance there has been no such injection then methane is clearly present in huge quantities under her home, and Ms Scott (and alll the other local protesters) should re-locate elsewhere in the country immediately.
Lisa Scott is a liar or has mental health problems.
Both are traits that The Greens seem to have more of their share of.
I'm reminded of the health problems Josh Fox touted widely in the US - even after they were repeatedly debunked as baseless.
Dee-Plee-tud-you-ray-nyum next anyone?
Arrogance and Intellectual inadequacy are symptoms that often occur together. It is a syndrome that deserves a name. Something colourful and vaguely reminiscent of putrifaction .. perhaps 'green' would do?
All that exercise requires that she consume more than her fair share of energy. How selfish can she get?
Sovereign countries such as Denmark and UK are merely using the green movement to import free stuff from Mercantile Europe.
You should observe Denmarks electrical energy balance so far this year......
Its mind blowing .
Nearly half of their electricity is now imported !!!!!
She should try running past a pig farm, or a chicken farm. That'll sort her out.
Oil and gas - Nature's finest, and fully biodegradable.
Denmark's national electricity production is down 10.2% (Jan to Nov)
Yet its consumption is up slightly.
Imports ......(Free stuff from mercantile Germany I suspect)
> When they say local - how local is local?
She is a parish councillor in Hookwood about a mile away so they have managed to find a local stooge.
Projection of penis envy.
If we fellow basic logic.
If "the greens" were a threat to the established (usury based ) order they would be banned.
In fact they are thinly disguised corporatists .
http://hilobrow.com/2010/01/07/the-kibbo-kift/
The Kibbo Krift looked on technology as a means to free ones spirit from toil.
The greens of today want to engage with more toil.
The modern greens want a basic income (tax funded) rather then see a replacement of consumer credit - the national dividend .
They are quite clearly a captured movement.
Look at the picture closely and you see not only 6 nutters but lots of things that come from oil. What a bunch of hypocrits environmentalists are.
They could be re-settled in a hunter gatherer collective in Snowdonia.
They would be so much happier away from the horrors of human progress. Having to walk 34 miles to the nearest Waitrose would certainly keep one fit and having Monbiot as a neighbour a joy beyond all forms of materialism.
I really hate to appear sexist, but why are these photographs of "protesters" invariably populated almost entirely by women?
probable jut the effects of the CIA/MI5 trying to scan her mind , black-opps and all that .
Before she was born then.
The Horse Hill well was subject to detailed planning permission which explained that the main pollution would come from vehicle movements. Table 1 (p 25) shows that these are much reduced during testing compared with during erection of the rig and early drilling operations.
Bought my diesel for 98 centimes a litre this morning. I don't think their campaign to keep it in the ground is working.
"Nothin" like the smell of Napalm first thing in the morning
The comments here are somewhat depressing, IMO, as they appear to be largely based upon an assumption that 'Greens' always make stuff up or something like that.
Just because they seem to be in a permanent state of "crying wolf" doesn't mean that they always are and to assume that is a dangerous tactic if it turns out that there was a physical factor at work.
Sceptics are long used to being termed as swivel-eyed loonies but that's no reason to knee-jerk a similar reaction in the opposite direction however much personal gratification is felt.
And the author should check the correct meaning of 'chronic.' ;-)
Coincidences are sometimes just coincidences. I wonder if any of the oil workers experienced the same symptoms?

Well, I'd be delighted to suggest that your post made some kind of sense.
It didn't.
She does know that running produces more CO2, I suppose?
It would be fun to see if a pretend well produced the same symptoms...
Definition of chronic:
1. Of long duration; continuing: chronic money problems.
2. Lasting for a long period of time or marked by frequent recurrence, as certain diseases: chronic colitis.
3. Subject to a habit or pattern of behavior for a long time: a chronic liar.
I'd say that number 3 applies.
"marked by frequent recurrence" could also apply since they seem to do this when something happens that they don't like.
I think not, but perhaps a pipeline to Hamble/Fawley, or to Grain (now there is no Thames refinery) if production volumes become significant. While looking at the general surroundings in satellite view I found a big pipeline being installed not far away. The blue coating hints that this one was a new water main, confirmed by further searches.

"chronic"
Have you never exaggerated for effect? I should have thought it was a Green PR man's MO.
"I'm not entirely convinced that Ms Scott's ailment isn't psychosomatic."
I'm not entirely convinced that Ms Scott's ailment isn't psychiatric.
Steve says: " It is a syndrome that deserves a name" May I suggest Vertego?

I would like to agree with you but my experience of trying to deal with local eco-activists over many years has convinced me that mendacity is hard-wired in.
Agreed that that isn't necessarily their first choice but they will happily resort to it if they cannot get their own way and will blissfully continue to lie in the face of all the evidence including, on one notorious occasion when the evidence was on tape.
"You had no business recording that."
"Yes, I did. The recorder was in full view on the table and it's no different from taking a shorthand Minute."
"Anyway, I never said that."
You what?!
And there were half-a-dozen witnesses as well.
In this instance I'm with our host. The woman is either lying or has convinced herself that because oil has started flowing the must be something unpleasant in the atmosphere because well, stands to reason dunnit?!
Or she's right in which case it needs sorting -— sharpish.
She should contact G.E.F.A.F.W.I.S.P. who have expertise in this kind of issue:

Poe's law applies.
Ah, comic effect. The irony is strong around here. I particularly enjoyed the whining about Gavin Schmidt's paraphrasing.
Maybe she shouldn't burn treated wood.
==================
Mike Jackson, in my experience of trying to have rational conversations with greens, I am never sure whether its mendacity, gullibility, stupidity or indoctrination that plays the most important part in their thinking.
To my mind many environmentalists seem to have simply not been issued with bullshit filters, or they were surgically removed from them at some point whilst growing up.
Kim - our sweep told us off for that last year! Won't be doing it again.
STOP THE ECONOMY LISA SCOTT FEELS BAD !!!
