Discussion > Drs against Diesel : A subsidy mafia Front
I wonder if anybody might ask John Grigg or Sadiq Khan about Shell GTL fuel?
Can be produced from shale extracted gas
Presentation (pdf)
Less polluting than diesel etc.
I wonder why we aren't hearing it even being talked about by say, Claire Perry and the Lucas creature....
So why would NGO's councils, media be in on making a war on diesels
when left on it's own our roads will continue to get ever cleaner as they have been for 40 years ?
..well the government has started out handing out £260 million for grassroots local projects to improve air quality
So obviously he who shouts loudest will get a portion of that $$$
============
To do with the same scheme , the Times raises the issue that some local schemes might be local diesel scrappage schemes,
That is after the gov has rejected a national scheme.
Wouldn't local schemes be open to manipulation...?
Your uncle from a remote Scottish farm would bring his old diesel Landrover to an urban relative so he could claim the scrappage
That piece quotes GP at the end, and that is usually a sign that it's actually from a GP press release.
Ford Ecoboost PETROL engines problem ...heat up the coolant pipes so some of them melt
a driver said her coolant pipes had already been replaced, she insists that she was lucky to get out alive when her car suddenly failed
The system works by heating up the engine , so you get more power from a smaller engine
Ford say they have 480,000 and only 400 have failed * across the range from 1L to Ford Connect Transit
Also a law firm says in a survey of Modified VW owners 1/10th say that after the fix they have had their engine suddenly fail
*The DVLA claim that such failures are "safe"
Leeds Uni Study out today
Lots of photos on Twitter of smokey exhausts and Chimney stacks on Twitter
...em Bradford is damp, has high proportion of ethnic-Pakistanis
- BBC Radio Leeds :
"Pollution is causing 40% of childhood asthma , and 24% is directly caused by vehicles, in Bradford"
- Local paper Bradford pollution causing 40 per cent of childhood asthmas, study reveal
- Telegraph Bradford air pollution causes 'one in four' child asthma cases
- Eureka : "Up to 38 percent of all annual childhood asthma cases in Bradford may be caused by air pollution"
The report said there were more emergency admissions due to asthma
It blamed NOx
"Cases of childhood asthma increasing" ..wouldn't that be cos of better diagnosis ?
News concluded with Prof John Wright quote
" drive less, with cleaner fuels and save lives"
.. FakeNews ..since there are no dead bodies to present , lives are not being saved
Rather life days may be being reduced.
Monday Sadiq's big announcement
Mayor calls for boroughs to ditch fossil fuel investment
"We are already working to deliver ambitious divestment plans and today we're calling on boroughs to do the same.
By working together,
we will have a louder voice to convince polluting firms to change their ways in order to tackle climate change. "
Imagine if it were the other way that politics was controlled by Big anti-Green and it started pushing pro-Oil policies and directly interfering it council pension funds to increase oil corp shareholdings .
That would be corrupt and wrong
But Sadiq first encourages GreenBlob industry with policy banning their competition
then he interferes in the pension funds to effectively boost GreenBlob biz shareprice
News : 500 helium deaths since 2000
people inhaling it as a propellant etc.
That's 30 people/year totally preventable
That eats into the budget of respiratory medicine
Hmmm... I supect that if you got lots of middle aged men (who formed a significant fraction of the 'helium deaths') to vigorously inhale from inflated balloons and then hold their breath for a few seconds at such parties (alcohol and other substances also included), then you could find some who died afterwards. The helium statistic sounds like other statistics which are probably meaningless without extra context about people who attend events where such activities happen. That's not a comment by me on what I think of the practice, just on the statistics mining that so often happens to generate these type of reports.
Does science say PM2.5 is actually that dangerous ?
Or are activists' MERE ASSERTIONS driving policy ?
Turns out the EPA was using "secret science" rather than proven science
"PM2.5 was not known to cause death, but by 1994 EPA-supported scientists had developed two lines of research purporting to show that it did. When the studies were run past the EPA’s Clean Air Science Advisory Committee, it balked. It believed the studies relied on dubious statistical analysis and asked for the underlying data. The EPA ignored the request."
2011 "Administrator Gina McCarthy refused requests for the data sets and defied a congressional subpoena."

Pruitt should draw up a list of those with a consistent pattern of producing lies for the EPA, and defending them, at US Taxpayer's expense.
Perhaps he already has.
Monday Yorkshire Post reprints a PA article
'OMG the gov doesn't have stats for diesel train pollution, we FOIed them"
At the end quotes Client Earth and Greenpeace.
FFS this pollution stuff is rubbish.
I was in the pub last night & they had 3 log fires going.
That's like at Green festivals when the volunteers are all moaning about Big Corporations making the air dirty, whilst they are smoking a joint.
Then the next thing they want to do is make a gigantic bonfire.
- So these people moan about cars damaging their lungs, then they stand next to the open fire in the pub.
Then they have BBQ parties
Incense candles.
Smoke joints.
So how many particles get in your lungs from log fires, BBQs and joints ?
Typo
Ford Ecoboost again
Mar 26, 2018 at 1:01 PM ...above was 1L
Ford have decided that there is a more serious problem with SOME 1,6L versions so have an official recall of 1.6L Ecoboosts out of the the 100s of 1000s they sell,
so there is an official Safety Recall of 15,000.
Stewgreen (Mar 27, 2018 at 10:30 AM): as Bradford’s air is probably cleaner, now, than for most of its life as an industrial city, perhaps we should be asking the question: does clean air cause asthma?
@RR
Associated Press have syndicated a story that links asthma to antibiotic use in childhood. The figure of 50% increase in frequency is mentioned - we a have quite bit to still learn about the nuances of the immune system seems plain... - and the MSM could usefully put most of their reporters on a remedial statistics course.
@Tomo I mentioned it above on 3 April 2:48pm
8pm C4 Dispatches : is about hauliers disabling emissions controls on their trucks.
... Maybe trying to save ad-blue costs.
Seems to me the bigger the engine the easier the filter.
R5 prog before had item about car driver bypassing filters.
stewgreen, is this the same as blanking-off the EGR?

re Dispatches
From the RT(!?) puff - looks like there are an assortment of things going on. I'd take some convincing that this is a worthwhile use of Dispatches program funding....
Likely the engines are being re-mapped - there are an assortment of things that can be changed - mostly at the cost (should the insurance companies be minded to) of invalidating the vehicle's insurance...
I've been wondering how HGVs cruising at 63-64 mph (sometimes more) on the motorways get away with it....
That said I've now followed quite a number of TfL buses around London in a fug of obviously dysfunctional diesel combustion ...

Are they burning chip fat, or something equally Green?
@GC as ever you guess correctly
"127 Stagecoach buses in Barking and Dagenham are run on 20% (B20) biodiesel. T
here are plans to roll out biodiesel to 600 more buses across London in 2015/16
The London borough of Hackney is running on 100% biodiesel"
london.gov.uk/what-we-do/environment/waste-and-recycling/mayors-biodiesel-programme
And it's "Mayor Khan the firework fan"
\\ that Khan had ‘personally scrutinised’ the New Year’s Eve fireworks display
‘to make the acclaimed event the most exciting yet’. //
So the man that is supposed to be concerned about London particulates
had a a massive session of putting particulates up over the London air
If you put up half a tonne or a tonne in the air that is going to increase the the microgrammes in the air
..the theory is that once you get some rain the air is cleaned, so it's a temporary spike.

@tomo it's not 56 any more cept in Jockland.
"The national speed limits for HGVs over 7.5 tonnes, travelling on a single carriageway increased from 40mph to 50mph.
The speed limit for HGVs over 7.5 tonnes, travelling on dual carriageways increased from 50mph to 60mph.
The speed limits in Scotland remain the same and European speed limiter requirements also remain unchanged and must be set at 56mph or lower."
Coming Monday
BBC continues it's part of the crusade
You and Yours is trailing at item about a city that is already giving up diesels etc.
