Discussion > Drs against Diesel : A subsidy mafia Front

major UNTRUE claim in@Channel4 @C4dispatches HGV Adblue cheating prog
"During this prog 1 person has died of diesel pollution"
Hardly surprising when their info comes Public Relations outfit ClientEarth
but their @Ofcom will let em off on grounds of being libEstablishment pals

They kept repeating this claim also
"Experts say the premature deaths of 23,000 people each year in the UK are linked to the types of dangerous gases produced by HGV diesel engines "
I'm guessing that done by taking the false claim "pollution causes the premature deaths 40,000 people" and then falsely assuming most of that's from diesel and then assuming that most of that is from trucks

Disptaches on diesel fiddling Part i
"thousands of emulators have been installed to cut off the adblue
.. cos adblue repairs costs thousands"
Surely the news is old, cos from May 2018, MOT's will have to check for emulators"

with emulator on 2010 truck pushes out 2.8 times more ...that's not a lot
.. So they say "ah
but if the truck was new we GUESS it would be pushing out 10 times as working properly"

Part ii - another way is to hack the truck
They claim that if you hack the engine management unit, you can switch off the ad blue, and no one can rell ?
Wouldn't you be able to tell from the exhaust ?

They claim the engine has to be working hard for it to be detectable.
- Hmm that contradicts
Previously activists have said "It's really important to stop vehicles pushing out pollution at the lights"
..and I said "rubbish since the engine isn't labouring, it's not polluting much"

#2 Then they claim that is ONLY detectable using a rolling road

#3 I say you get test emissions when driving around the ring road, by fixing a mobile rig over the exhaust

i VW cheat was actually spotted by US authorities and they paid big time.
ii If you make the rule that if your firm sends in a truck with a hacked adblue system we might not detect it everytime, but when we do we'll seize the truck and fine directors £1m ..that WILL deter fleets

Apr 9, 2018 at 11:19 PM | Registered Commenterstewgreen

They said Rolling roads are expensive

but didn't mention that rolling road tests cannot be suddenly implemented at current MOT centres cos they are under a long term contract.

I believe some racing teams have mobile rolling road tech

Sunday BBC More or Less ..redeemed itself, after become in this last year part of the SJW deception
This WS episode More More or Less: Are We Breathing Unsafe Air?
The World Health Organisation say that 95% of people who live in cities breathe UNSAFE AIR.
(92% of global population)

Ah but what is UNSAFE AIR ?
ahha they have cherrypicked " pm2.5 (the smallest category of particulate matter)
And the UN guideline for this is 10μg/m3
So most cities don't comply with this

UN claim this connects to human health

How do you get this measure..when most places don't have monitoring ?
"models so we can estimate"

In Asia/Africa the measurements are the highest and in the West much lower

2016 data avg over year :
London 15, LA 11, Nairobi 17, Beijing 85, Kampala 104, Delhi 122μg/m3

* So hang on we are whining yet we know these third world cities are like 10 times higher than the west ! *

Health Impacts ?
"If city Y have a 10 point difference over city X we'd expect to see a 6% increase in mortality
..and in some specific categories of disease an even greater risk"

em that's bull... cos are we talking 15 vs 25 ? or 112 vs 122 ?
He's done a generalisation fallacy.
=======================================

Thank God they bring on Prof Tony Frew to talk sense about the WHO attitude.
(Why describe him as "ex-government advisor" when he's one of the best experts ?)
#1 'You shouldn't be talking mortality , cos what counts is life days lost ..life expectancy'

#2 And you have to balance the good that energy does, in extending your life/quality

** If you got rid of all the transport in London, the benefit would be 2μg/m3 **
..meaning 20-30 days of life
ie you'd live one month longer on a 90 year lifespan if we got rid of all transport ..is that worth it of giving up all that convenience ?

Cot deaths : in BMJ Open a study claims to find cot deaths reflect peaks in PM10
Hmm I don't know how the filter that out considering the differences between winter and summer etc.

Rule : correlation is not causation.

pollution rises from 125 to 146
wood burners blamed
Prof Frank Kelly "these domestic emissions, if not decreased, will dominate" (as traffic emms controlled)

An estimated 50 million years of human life could be lost in the UK if action is not taken to reduce air pollution
emm that is 1 year per human, which way higher than previous suggestions
And the context is that UK pollution has fallen drastically in last 40 years, apart from idiotic moves like increasing wood burning

The report claims the magic solution is to follow the Climate Change act
study in journal Lancet Planetary Health
"The 2008 Act requires the UK to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 1990 levels by 2050."
news

Pcar replied
BBC R4 had an NHS GP last week who "breached editorial standards (by not being propaganda".
He said all this air, food, alcohol etc scaremongering and wasting money should stop - we live longer than ever before, abstention of happiness might extend life by a month/year, but it's when you're old and frail. Better to have a happy life.

Chelsea Flower Show gardens tackle plastic and pollution
ITV News Plastic pollution and making urban spaces greener are among the environmental challenges being addressed by gardens at this year's Chelsea Flower Show.…

\\ The walling of the garden is made up of 500 plastic bottles,
to represent how many end up in the world’s oceans every few seconds. //

\\ The LG Eco-City Garden, designed by Hay Hwang, also focuses on plants to tackle air pollution, with silver birch, maples, beech, pine and laurel all having better capacity to collect pollutant particles than other trees.//
I'm not sure how pseudoscience this is
.. One thing roadside trees is their canopy has been found to block the rise/dispersal of particulates
..And a proven thing against particulates is rain ..so anything that blocks rain might be a bad thing

\\ A moss planting bed, which will be able to absorb 250 grams of particles each day, offering the same environmental benefit of 275 trees, will also feature in the garden.//
Hangon particulates are measure in parts per million in m3
ie in a box 100m x 100m x 100m you have 1million m3
is 250g even possible in 1 day in such a space ?

Times page 2 "Air pollution blamed for 7m deaths every year worldwide+"
Source WHO report
Quotes : Client Earth (bad guys), Prof Tony Frew (ggod guy) "Cooking in third world, and some China factories"
... British Heart F, British Lung Fn call to action ..as if they are going to say owt else

Obviously flawed cos it quotes raw deaths rather than QALDs
also "Issuing updated figures, officials said that 90 per cent of people around the globe breathe air containing high levels of pollutants."

Also reports the claim city X, Y,, Z fail the targets ...without mentioing evrywhere fails the targets cos they are garbage

I think its the same report from last week above

If the WHO are using PM2.5s as an indication of the dangers of ROAD Air Pollution, I'd suggest there is a problem.
The UN WHO have put out a report saying
"The Most Polluted town in England is Scunthorpe
.. It's beaten in the UK only by Port Talbot"

#1 The sensors don't measure TOWNS they just measure the spot where they stand, metres away the particle levels could be much lower or even higher.
I suspect you don't bother to put monitors on windy or open spaces where pollution is not a problem.
#2 If 2 towns with massive steelworks come top could it not be that the sensors are close to the coke ovens or blast furnace chimney's spouting iron-oxide dust ?
Yes Radio Humberside brought on a London activist who talked about Road pollution.

More nuttiness from BBC Radio Humberside. also first 4 mins of Look North
https://twitter.com/RadioHumberside/status/991589358485491712

Air pollution, Scunthorpe is the worst place in England for DEADLY* air pollution
... Second only to Port Talbot
it's a major health risk
They bring on an air campaigner "Oh it's not just industry , it's road traffic that is the major concern "
Really : the local council say different
It's not just the STEELWORKS, there is other industry as well, and we feel this survey, has a strange way of collecting data , cos we have seen cleaner air over the years
What's that they say "STEELWORKS" ?
what a coincidence that Port Talbot has a massive steelworks as well, just as if the iron oxide particles coming out of the blast furnace chimneys or coke ovens or something is influencing the count of the one particular type of particle (PM2.5) the report has cherry picked to count.

Cos Scunthorpe doesn't have particularly heavy traffic and it only has 3 air sensors, one of which is in a special location on the east edge of the steel works couple hundred yards from the coke oven and nearer to the railways with the coal and iron ore trains coming through.
The 10,000 people who work on the steelworks get a lifetime of employment and know the trade off is that they'll probably die a few weeks/months earlier.
Scunthorpe is particularly windy so I expect some parts of the works will be worse whereas where the kids are at school it should be much lower.

Times : 4 letters on the topic of whether gov intendeds to ban hybrids in 2040 for air quality

#1 Dr. Richard Bl-oore writes
(hmm why didn't he call himelf Professor Richard Bl-oore or something even grander
It seems like a MADE UP name
cos the the internet has no trace of such a person
only a Twitter account under that name of a anti-Heathrow Climate Protester

#Heathrow harms health with noise and pollution and adds to climate change which is already causing extreme Weather #climatechangeI suppose he could be an old old man who retired before 1995 and that's the reason why his job not mentioned on the net.

He attempts to write an authoritative letter making grand claims about dangers. ultrafine particle pollution UFP's is his buzzword
Seems hyperbole to me

He then goes on to banging on about airports
"Research ... found as much as a fivefold increase in UFPs at 8-10km downwind of Los Angeles airport.
However, research by the University of Utrecht, at two sites 7km and 40km from Schiphol, found a threefold increase at 7km and a 20 per cent increase at 40km downwind.
.... The answer must has to be that Schiphol has fewer than 500,000 flights a year
but the number of annual flights at Los Angeles is more than 700,000.

Nope that is the fallacy of "all other things being equal" ..when they aren't
He thus concludes that hybrids are OK it's flights we need to stop.

A letter writer references Chris Grayling saying
"- It was “not sensible” for motorists who drive almost exclusively in towns and cities to buy diesel cars because of air pollution concerns;"
Mr Grayling wants more “rapid progress” by incentivising the sale of electric cars, but he also said that motorists themselves should contribute by cutting back on diesels in cities.

oh does he not know that a modern diesel can be super clean ?

there are a number (judging by style points...) of eco-loons infesting online vehicle / car forums and letter writing to assorted newspapers espousing all sorts of unbelievable nonsense wrt vehicle emissions.

These people are unhinged and Connolly on Wikipedia springs to mind - obsessive busybodies - some of them so active that they actually must be on a payroll....

\\ BBC London tv news presents us with the junk statistic of the day…

“Every car in London costs the NHS £7,000 over its lifetime”

To missquote Colonel Kilgore: The BBC loves the scent of lobby group nonsense in the morning – it smells like new taxation //

Jun 6, 2018 at 9:40 AM | Registered Commenterstewgreen

An electric car is so subsidised it takes about £7K out of the tax pool on Day1
... And that is without accounting for the pollutants in its full life cycle :
battery material mining, tyre wear, electricity generation pollution, dismantling of dangerous lithium battery etc.

Jun 6, 2018 at 9:46 AM | Registered Commenterstewgreen

Oh the PR being cutNpasted in from the Clean Air Day PR by enviro activist front Global Action Plan, says that a diesel costs the NHS £16,000

There are logical fallacies all over the place, the NHS wasn't better in the day without petrol/diesel ambulances .
One fallacy is : You can't count negatives without counting the benefits.

The Yorkshire Post spins it into Yorkshire Towns a re blackspots

Weird blanket claims are made like "diesels 20 times more polluting than Electric"

Same old propaganda that accidentally favours Eco-activist charities and biz that sustain themselves via Electric Car Subsidies ..paid by the public.
