Iranians won't be allowed to protest on the streets about the Iranians shooting down a plane carrying mainly Iranian passengers, but even Iran's Moslem allies will recognise this as an own goal.
Trump doesn't need to rub salt into Iranian wounds. Iran's Moslem opponents will. Iran can dismiss their criticisms, but has lost sympathy and support outside the Middle East. Even US Democrats have been wrongfooted by Iran's response.
