Discussion > President Trump

Clarky

it's more The Far Side than The Twilight Zone - then again, there really isn't now a viable narrative for Russia collusion or a Logan Act violation as far as this administration is concerned eh?

There are several prominent DNC players who are slam dunk in Logan Act territory - although the irony of a Logan Act prosecution of Biden, Hilary and Kerry (random sample) probably isn't lost on Barr et al.

Picking off the loose ends might yet fail to cause an unravelling of the previous administration - although progress is slow and rearguard actions like Sullivan's reputational kamikazes lay smoke in hope of timing out a reckoning.

A further collapse in the reputation / respect of the US Federal System has to in the reckoning in any clearing of the stables - the matter needs to be carefully handled and throwing the baby out with the bath water is a possibility we should all be mindful of.

Democrats promote Climate Science and shift jobs and coal burning to China.
Flynn's warnings about China got him fired by Obama and then framed by the outgoing White House residents.

No doubt Strzok will say he believes and trusts Hockey Teamsters, Obama does, even Cook's fabricated 97% Consensus.

Hang on, just a couple of weeks ago,' Obamagate' was going to be the next big thing.

You're going to have your work cut out dealing with what's coming down the chute over the next few weeks.

Since then, while I've certainly been busy watering the garden in the record breaking sunny and dry weather. Dealing with stunning political revelations , not so much.

Clarky, what part of Obamah's personal pawprints being all over the Flynn case don't you get?

Is Emmett Sullivan's finger the only thing holding back the leaking dam?

Jun 1, 2020 at 5:29 AM | Registered Commentertomo

Will there be any criminal charges brought wrt the Russia hoax, felony leaks and other antics?

I'd like to think so .... but a random bloke on the Internet's wishes don't drive this along. Extraordinary charges require extraordinary evidence and if - and it's a big IF - Obamah administration officials and others are going to be indicted over their actions wrt to events surrounding Trump's election and presidency the investigators are going to need robust evidence and witnesses - as I understand it that is what Durham is looking at - let's see how smart Barry + chums were with covering themselves - Sullivan's antics in torturing process hint that some people are worried enough to send out a suicide squad or several.

Bad news on swamp drainage being reported by The Guardian, and in a tone that suggests their regular readers ought to be prepared for more

Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Nancy Pelosi refuse to denounce Antifa

go figure as they say.

Boente ? - he was retiring anyway by the look of it .. I'm wondering what, if anything is going to happen to other stage hands like say, Rod Rosenstein - an indictment there will have 'em clucking in the DNC henhouse.

".. an indictment there will have 'em clucking in the DNC henhouse."
Jun 1, 2020 at 9:00 PM tomo

I think they are already clucking about those arrested squealing.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indictment
United States
"Indictable offenses are normally tried by jury, unless the accused waives the right to a jury trial. Even though the Sixth Amendment of the US Constitution mandates the right to a jury trial in any criminal prosecution, the vast majority of criminal cases in the US are resolved by the *plea-bargaining process*. "

I am still assuming that Sullivan’s amnesia about the Law in the US has something to do with stalling for time.
I am also assuming that Barr is awaiting the outcome of Flynn's farcical trial, before some arrest warrants and invitations to discuss irregularities are authorised, but initially, they will not include the names of serving or past politicians.

tomo, I have just made it through most of that, but only once.

I think it says that Judge Sullivan has not read anything outside of the Court Case that might influence him. Therefore Judge Sullivan can be declared innocent, and he wants to stick with the verdict he wrote last year.

I hadn't got around to more than a skim... which really isn't a proper way to treat a legal brief :-)

I guess Judge Sullivan lives in a Buddhist retreat style wooden box that has only one door and that opens onto the courtroom dias where his big black leather chair is....

It's weird shit which if the politics was inverted would have the present Democrats and media howling fit to burst.

More legal documents are popping up online

I have heard it argued that rioting will favour a Trump win in November. Does this explain his provocative tweets yesterday?

Jun 2, 2020 at 8:05 AM | Unregistered CommenterAK

AK, good question. I heard the same thing, and thought that surely the awful events in the USA over the last few days will damage Trump, but I suppose that may not be how it works out. The USA (as, arguably, is the UK) is dangerously divided, with fewer and fewer people occupying the middle ground, and tribalism seems to be rampant. Perhaps he's gambling that the "law & order" crowd will support his harsh response to the admittedly ridiculous rioting that's going on (the answer to police violence is violence?).

It's all very sad. I strongly suspect that racism is a powerful force in the US police, as it remains throughout US society - slavery and the US Civil War run deep in the US psyche, I think.

I feel desperately worried about the next US election. A choice between Trump and Biden is no better than the choice between trump and HRC.

America sneezes.

George Floyd was murdered.

I think we have to wait a while to allow the smoke to clear. Individual cities are responsible for their own security and the immediate response to any disturbances. I feel that Trump will be making a big(yuge) mistake if he orders the US Army in (it's exactly what the Democrats are obviously trying to precipitate) . Some of the rioting is clearly organised to some degree - catching some of the organisers has to be a high (top) priority for the Feds.

Alternative media, the small band of independents with GoPros and handheld camcorders is worth watching - I've found Tim Pool in particular to be a useful bellwether for stuff that rarely gets looked at by the MSM.

They released tons of prisoners over COVID

Told regular Americans to shut down their businesses

Said rioters were just using the "language of the unheard"
when they destroyed those businesses

Then Biden staff bails them out

Night club bouncer and policeman isn't in my estimation a two-job scenario that is likely to work out well and both occupations have a tendency to attract exactly the sort of people who relish power over people. The type of person attracted to bossing others about (and worse) is likely not one we’d like to have such power.

Elsewhere, I see The Swedish climate-scientist-turned-virologist has now become a professor of American History - will the Thunberg family continue to sport those natty AntiFa T-shirts?

Nothing says "protest against police brutality" like looting a 65" 4K TV , Starbucks cheesecake and some sneakers. Oh, and setting fire to subsidised housing.

Quite how a Democrat administrated city with a Democrat run police force where this kicked off can blame "Drumph" is a conundrum for the US media and others. It be like blaming nasty Tories for the London riots.

Sullivan's Reputational Kamikazes take some flak

The DOJ points out the Judge has no standing to violate Article II and Article III of the U.S. Constitution in an effort to anoint himself as prosecutor, judge and jury of a criminal case outside of his judicial authority.

The US Cop has been charged with murder, and from the brief clips I have seen on TV, there does seem to be a direct link between the completely unnecessary and inappropriate method of holding the man down, after he had been restrained, and his death. It has now emerged that the former Cop had a dodgy record.

Trump has welcomed the former cop being charged with murder. He has not done or said anything to indicate his support for the former cop. He has not attempted (?) to intervene in the investigation.

Why is this a protest against Trump?

Why did "spontaneous" demonstrations occur in London?

I am not black or American, but i am appalled by what happened and the arrogant and apparently nonchalant attitudes of the other cops in the video, not just the murder suspect, and they KNEW they were being filmed.

I don't doubt that many US Police Departments still have issues with institutional racism, and that some officers get a buzz out of violence and use of force, just like many of the demonstrators.

How is any of this Trump's fault, or has the murder been hijacked by the media to launch unprovoked attacks on Trump?

If the cop did have a dodgy record, it wasn't Trump that enabled him to continue disgracing his Uniform.

Sullivan now has in his hand a piece of paper telling him he was right, so anything that emerges now, is not his fault.

I don’t know whether he can now conclude the trial without having to declare Flynn an innocent man whilst leaving his previous admissions of Guilt on the record.

GC. Not so sure the riots are (or started out as) anti-Trump, they are anti Police racism and discrimination. Certainly much of the crowds are anti-police and much of the aggression is directed against police officers and police property and equipment. Many consider statements from Trump for the authorities to get even tougher with rioters not to be particularly helpful to those trying to reduce tensions. Now to threaten bringing in the Army threatens to cause or precipitate many municipal-state-federal tensions. It could precipitate a right mess. If protesters invade largely white areas with many residents sporting newly acquired weaponry, the potential for massacres is there .

I write with some experience. I lived in a small community the other side of the Berkeley Hills from Oakland (where there had been recent riots). Residents were fully prepared to physically resist invasion from Oakland with plans to coordinate protection of their properties. Everyone, except us, had multiple weapons in their household. I was offered a loan when I refused to buy my own.

Jun 2, 2020 at 2:02 PM | Unregistered CommenterAK

AK

so the residents didn't have to defend themselves then - that's a win.

Jun 2, 2020 at 2:43 PM | Registered Commentertomo

Suspect that the Berkeley Hills provided the first (and only necessary) line of defence. Rioters were not prepared to walk miles over barren hills. Our neighbours were paranoid but still tooled up..

I am not convinced by the alleged spontaneity of the demonstrations, and the BBC has definitely been emphasing "Trump" when reporting. Otherwise I agree particularly with your criticism above.

As you note, Police brutality (by a minority) is not a new thing that has suddenly happened "because of Trump".

Sadly, it is inevitable that millions of legally owned firearms will have been readied for home defense, and I expect gun and ammunition sales have risen in neighbourhoods that consider themselves to be at risk.

Having been in one riot (as a naive observer caught inside a police cordon) - removing oneself from the action seems the prudent thing to do. I feel really sorry for people who've been attacked simply because of where they live/work - there's some recent grim footage out there at the moment of rioters invading homes ... My riot was mild in comparison.

The drive-by shooting of Federal courthouse guards in Oakland a couple of days ago was a strange episode.... while reading up that story background I was surprised at the apparent quantity of nutters in vehicles shooting fairly randomly in the Bay Area.

I keep seeing the numbers for gun killings in Chicago ... blimey - that qualifies as a small war on its own. Doesn't warrant much coverage in the MSM though by the look of it.

I simply cannot bring myself now to accept much of anything from the corporate news media. There is a clear intention to try and pressurise the present administration into making a mistake - arguably here as well as there... I'd wager Wolfie Smiths around the place are quite agitated at the moment.

The death (possible murder) of a black man by a police officer, while other officers stood by, apparently seeing nothing wrong, is nothing to do with Trump. But it was inevitable that in a POTUS election year, the media would be waiting for Trump's reaction, and they're loving the fact that his intemperate reaction gives them the chance to link Trump to the protests.

I've never liked Trump, but I have marvelled at his political antennae, that seemingly enable him to behave in ways we regard as (at best) bizarre, and at worst crass, and still generate public support for him. This time it seems that surely he's getting that wrong, but then I was wrong about that 3+ years ago, so what do I know?
