Discussion > President Trump

I can't in good countenance continue to show you this.

Fox News (!)

It's over. Trump lost.
Be careful what you wish for.

Mark Hodgson, I was pointing out that your question - why would the fraud/errors go in one direction? - really answers itself. Do you not find it hard to believe that Biden in 2020 got more votes than Obama in 2008?

As yet there is no result. The verdict from the electoral college should be on Dec 14th. The decision is not for salon.com or CNN, even if Phil Clarke thinks that it is.

One thing is clear. The US voting system needs a complete overhaul.

Nov 10, 2020 at 5:10 PM | Unregistered CommenterCharly

All the networks do is call the result based on simple arithmetic. The Electoral College will count all ballots that have not been found to be illegal and grant probably 306 EC votes to Joe Biden. It's just simple maths. There's a huge gulf between what Trump is claiming on Twitter and what his lawyers are able to defend before a judge. Many of the lawsuits are about processes rather than referring to tranches of illegal votes and the numbers involved fall well short of that required to alter the outcome.

The Electoral College breaks the fundamental democratic principle that all votes should count equally and is screaming out for reform. But then if the College had been reformed before 2016, such that the result is determined by popular vote, we would probably have been spared the last four years. Indeed the Democrat candidate won the popular vote in seven out of the last eight presidential contests.

“What is the downside for humoring him for this little bit of time? No one seriously thinks the results will change,” said one senior Republican official. “He went golfing this weekend. It’s not like he’s plotting how to prevent Joe Biden from taking power on Jan. 20. He’s tweeting about filing some lawsuits, those lawsuits will fail, then he’ll tweet some more about how the election was stolen, and then he’ll leave.”

Reported in the WaPo.

Nov 10, 2020 at 5:53 PM | Unregistered CommenterPhil Clarke

The Guardian, the WaPo, and the continuing misunderstanding of the US Constitution.

Does the EU operate on this fundamental democratic principle?

"according to people familiar with internal discussions, who, like others interviewed for this report, spoke on the condition of anonymity to share private conversations." = we made it up.

"said one senior Republican official." A person with no name?

The WaPo concluded with "“At this stage, I think the transition should be underway, even though it’s not finalized,” said Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah). “We want to make sure that the interests of national security and smooth transition is (sic ) carried out.”"

I find it hard to believe, but apparently some people pay to read the WaPo.

Charly, of course I understand the point you are making. My point was simply that if errors have been made, then they are errors, not fraud, and would be as likely to be errors in both directions, not simply in favour of Biden. Fraud would be a different matter, but we have to disagree - do you seriously think only Democrats are capable of fraud, and that Republicans aren't?

As for the fact that Biden got more votes than Obama, so what? Trump got more votes this time round than last time. In both cases it's because the US is massively divided, both sides cared hugely that their man should win, and both sides turned out in large numbers, larger than ever before.

As for evidence of fraud, as I think as has been pointed out already, if the Democrats have "stolen" the Presidential election, then why have they been so inept as not to make sure that they won the Senate too? With it in Republican hands, Biden's hands will be at least partly tied. For me, the Senate remaining Republican, while Trump loses the Presidency, is suggestive of some Republicans holding their noses and voting for Biden, to get Trump out, while voting for Republican senators.

In any event, I see no evidence of fraud having being tabled by Trump or his team yet. As I said earlier, if he does produce evidence, then of course I will reconsider the position. Until then, however, I just can't see that anything he can come up with making enough difference to change the result.

Mind you, I do find it funny that many commentators and politicians have now rediscovered their belief in democracy and accepting the result, now that it has produced the "right" result. It's a pity they didn't feel that way when Trump won last time, and when referendums went in favour of Brexit and Scottish independence. Strange how a 52/48% over Brexit was too close to justify Brexit, yet a Presidential vote by the same margin is absolutely conclusive.

On this day in 2016 with the Electoral College situation almost exactly reversed:

PRESIDENT OBAMA:  Well, I just had the opportunity to have an excellent conversation with President-elect Trump.  It was wide-ranging.  We talked about some of the organizational issues in setting up the White House.  We talked about foreign policy.  We talked about domestic policy.  And as I said last night, my number-one priority in the coming two months is to try to facilitate a transition that ensures our President-elect is successful.

I believe Barack Obama had a reasonable grasp on the how the US constitution is meant to work..

Nov 10, 2020 at 7:52 PM | Unregistered CommenterPhil Clarke

Mark Hodgson, good point about the re-discovery in the belief in democracy.

The Senate is still in play. Maybe Republicans did just want Trump out. However, could be that if Biden gets into the White House, it is all up for Republicans for a very long time.

I agree with Douglas Murray, who has been out and about in the US for a while now. Democracy depends upon accepting defeat. Not much sign of that since 2016. 2.5 years of "Russia collusion", then impeachment, now talk of "lists" and going after Trump supporters.

"Fundamental democratic principles". Very funny, Mr Clarke.

"I believe Barack Obama had a reasonable grasp on the how the US constitution is meant to work.."

Fraudulent FISA warrants used on the President-elect?

( Of course, I have every faith in Barry "Bathhouse" Obama. He'd never try to sandbag the incoming President. Everything " strictly by the book ". )

apologies for this overwhelming nausea

Another 'bombshell', like all the others? Or more jam tomorrow?

You really have to be careful of online scams these days. Take this one.

It's a begging letter from Trump, scroll down past the nonsense about the left wing MOB stealing the election and you find in the small print that if you are foolish enough to send money to help out the billionaire non-taxpayer, a chunk of your donations will be allocated to Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. (“DJTFP”).

The website has been updated but the internet never forgets, previous versions were clear:

50% of each contribution, up to a maximum of $2,800 ($5,000), will be designated toward DJTFP’s 2020 general election account for general election debt retirement until such debt is retired”.

Seems the campaign to elect the orange man spent around $1.6bn, money he does not have and the yugely successful businessman is now reduced to passing round the begging bowl around the supporters he wilfully exposed to a deadly virus.

Very presidential. Good Riddance.

How many underlings have been fired by now by Giuliani over the Four Seasons debacle? You just couldn’t make it up. Was the venue chosen for some participants for its easy access to the Sex shop next door?

If indeed Daryl Brooks was a genuine Pennsylvanian ballot watcher, what was the State Republican Party doing hiring him in the first place? Perhaps the addition of a mask confused everyone.

Nov 11, 2020 at 6:43 AM | Unregistered CommenterAK

Another one bites the dust.

I see the career official who would have run any DOJ voter fraud investigations has resigned, apparently in disgust, and the Republican lieutenant governor of Texas has put up a $1m reward for information on irregularities. Which kinda implies he doesn't have any.

Nov 11, 2020 at 10:22 AM | Unregistered CommenterPhil Clarke

Was the venue chosen for some participants for its easy access to the Sex shop next door?

Apparently the garden centre is equidistant from an Adult shop, a crematorium and a prison.

Write your own punchline ;-)

Where exactly is all the fraud actually happening?

The New York Times contacted the offices of the top election officials in every state on Monday and Tuesday to ask whether they suspected or had evidence of illegal voting. Officials in 45 states responded directly to The Times. For four of the remaining states, The Times spoke to other statewide officials or found public comments from secretaries of state; none reported any major voting issues.

Meanwhile Team Trump has produced a list of voters with postcodes outside the state where they absentee voted - alleging criminal voter fraud. There are, of course, many legitimate reasons to have an out-of-state address, including one which does not seem to have occurred to the MAGA geniuses:

A letter sent Nov. 5 on behalf of President Donald Trump's reelection campaign to Attorney General William Barr alleges that 3,062 voters who do not live in the state of Nevada "improperly cast" absentee ballots in the 2020 election.

But the list that accompanies the letter of those accused of "criminal voter fraud" contains hundreds of overseas military post office boxes and more than 1,000 locations where military personnel are stationed, such as Minot, North Dakota; Edwards and Fort Irwin, California; Hill Air Force Base, Utah; Carlisle, Pennsylvania; and Yuma, Arizona.

"he wilfully exposed to a deadly virus"

That's pathetic, even coming from you Phil, how so - explain!

Ah... the usual - ad hom remarks - how about addressing the DATA

but don't worry Trump has it all in hand - Dems are going down BIGTIME!!!

This kind of thing leading to this kind of thing.

The study I linked to found 700 more coronavirus deaths in the areas cursed by a Trump rally compared to similar areas with none.

Nov 11, 2020 at 12:29 PM | Unregistered CommenterPhil Clarke

Promise us this Marion, when your predictions are proven to be wrong you will slink away with your tail between your legs, and if it is Trump who is President on January 21st 2021 I shall do the same.

In the interim I am dreadfully afraid of the damage a resentful, beaten Trump is capable of doing.

Sorry, I am not going waste an hour of my life on a video from a man who believes vitamins cure coronavirus. If he has real evidence of fraud, well there's a prize of $1m on offer if he presents it for scrutiny. (He won't).

But, for what it's worth, it's being shredded on the internet. Eg here and here..

Nov 11, 2020 at 12:46 PM | Unregistered CommenterPhil Clarke

Didn't notice you complaining about the risk of CV deaths with all those pics you published celebrating a supposed Dem win!!

Strange that!!

And for your info the vast majority of coronavirus deaths in the US are in states with DEMOCRATIC governors - five in particular who all followed a policy of putting elderly with CV from hospitals into care homes. A policy that was repeated in many countries round the world - odd that when it was known even then that the elderly were the most vulnerable

And Trump saved many many lives by banning air traffic from China at the beginning of the pandemic - remember all those cries of RACISM from the Democrats - Nancy Pelosi even encouraged US citizens to visit Chinatown (another policy that was repeated elsewhere in the world I seem to remember...)

Doesn't seem to worry about US businesses now....

"Sorry, I am not going waste an hour of my life on a video from a man who believes vitamins cure coronavirus."

What a surpirse!!! /NOT lol!!

(And for your info, even the Scottish Government has recommended that people take Vitamin D to help against coronavirus)

So don't claim there's no evidence. Phil, when you refuse to look!!!

But that's true of all the propaganda outlets 😂
