Discussion > President Trump

As many others have noted – I have nothing against a multi-millionaire who becomes a politician;
You do know that Donald was the son of one of the wealthiest men in the country? That his success derives largely from the start his Dad gave him in the form of gifts, loans and political contacts? It is true that he owns a small fortune, but then he started with a large one.

Hey! This discussion has desiccated. Are you all despondent (and so lethargic), or anticipating something miraculous will happen and your fevered desires of a Trump victory will be granted at the last hour?
My greatest fear is that when Trump finally recognises defeat he will further stir up his fervent supporters and unleash chaos across the country. Too much anger, too many guns. What a time for a strong president to impose marshal law and stay in office for the interim. Apparently he was talked out of starting a war with Iran and having to stay in charge for “just a bit longer”.
He will never officially concede but this latest is bizarre even by Trumpian standards. His court cases have failed or been dismissed, 25-1 and the one did not change a single vote. He continues to tweet out every discredited and debunked accusation of fraud long they have been disproven and/or dismissed in court. I genuinely do not know if he believes he has a chance of winning back the 'stolen' election - which would make him delusional - or he knows he has no chance and is just stoking his base - which would make him dangerous.
Watching CNN this morning, a poll that 70% of Republicans don't believe the election was free and fair. I guess that's his audience. Also this morning Obama (plugging the book he was never going to write;-) coined the term 'truth decay' to describe the diminishing role that facts, evidence and data currently play in political discourse.
Good piece in The Atlantic about how Trump will never concede and what the possible scenarios for departure are. Written pre-election, it now seems quite prescient.
Let us not hedge about one thing. Donald Trump may win or lose, but he will never concede. Not under any circumstance. Not during the Interregnum and not afterward. If compelled in the end to vacate his office, Trump will insist from exile, as long as he draws breath, that the contest was rigged.Trump’s invincible commitment to this stance will be the most important fact about the coming Interregnum. It will deform the proceedings from beginning to end. We have not experienced anything like it before.
Maybe you hesitate. Is it a fact that if Trump loses, he will reject defeat, come what may? Do we know that? Technically, you feel obliged to point out, the proposition is framed in the future conditional, and prophecy is no man’s gift, and so forth. With all due respect, that is pettifoggery. We know this man. We cannot afford to pretend.
Trump’s behavior and declared intent leave no room to suppose that he will accept the public’s verdict if the vote is going against him. He lies prodigiously—to manipulate events, to secure advantage, to dodge accountability, and to ward off injury to his pride. An election produces the perfect distillate of all those motives.
I think significant or prolonged civil unrest is unlikely, if the result had been close, then maybe people would have seen value in taking to the streets, but 306-232 and a 5.3 million popular vote margin is hard to argue with.
Phil. If you were arguing that a majority of Republican voters would not cause problems when it comes to the installation of a Biden presidency I would agree with you. But it only needs a minority and that Trump could rely upon. I am of this view because Trump already did a trial run - a motorcade near the WhiteHouse in front of his fans. I was most surprised the Secret Service even considered allowing this to happen. What do you think would happen if Trump called upon his supporters across the country to demonstrate and called for civil disobedience? I am not convinced that he wouldn’t do this.
Do you mean the Stop The Steal/ MAGA Million March (actual attendance between 5-15,000)? Reportedly he drove through and carried on to the golf course which does not sound like someone planning a putsch. But he's nothing if not unpredictable and I guess there is a slim possibility of some last ditch attempt to steal or invalidate the election through encouraging his more fanatical followers onto the streets. I think his lack of courage and organisational ability would doom it to failure. I hope he realises this. I am not going to attempt second-guessing what goes on in his head. He's not exactly stable or predictable. Turns out what his supporters ascribed to him playing 4D chess is more like him eating the pieces. If he thought it was his best hope, who knows? You'd like to think law enforcement would step up to suppress any violent unrest, but then again all the police associations came out in support, and he's been sacking and packing at the Pentagon….…
But I think it more likely he will spend the next few years carrying on with his rallies, tightening his grip on what remains of the GOP and aiming to get back into office in 2024.
(If he's not in prison).
Poll: 46 percent of voters say Trump should concede immediately (The Hill)
Forty-six percent of registered voters surveyed said Trump should concede “right away,” while another 32 percent said he should concede if he is “unable to back up his claims of widespread fraud.” Just 12 percent said the president should not concede “no matter what,” and 9 percent didn't know or had no opinion.
The results of the poll are sharply split along partisan lines, with 72 percent of Democrats saying Trump should concede right away compared to just 17 percent of Republicans. Nearly half (45 percent) of Republicans said Trump should only concede if he can’t back up his voter fraud claims, and a full quarter of registered GOP voters say Trump should not concede no matter what.
First as history, then as farce.
Georgia audit finds no evidence of significant fraud, Biden wins by 12,284 votes confirming his final Electoral College vote total at 306. When the counting is complete he will probably have more than 80 million votes.
Mocking a man with a stammer for his stammer. Class.

This Discussion rapidly segueing into “President Biden”.
Watch out for the bile eruption.
Something for the anti-Trumpers, including those who don't "like" Trump but probably don't like the Democrat Green New Deal either.

Biden is now ahead in the popular count by over 6 million votes. The margins in the states that matter are impregnable.
What is The Donald playing at? Who cares?
Obama won his first election by disqualifying votes because signatures didn't match.

Tomo, the Why this constant desire to pull Obama down? Soon he will be the last President but one, and you could leave him alone - but you won’t.
