Discussion > President Trump
oops I broke the link
Trump speech in Seoul I see the BBC pushed it down the plate rack of priorities to a regional page 2 minutes from a 35 minute speech.
I lied about the TV license - I'd buy a pile
Mildly OT
Apparently a true transcript of a Bill Clinton / Tony Blair telephone conversation

I thought everyone knew that Leeds Castle was moved to Kent, because despite all the predictions, there is no chance of the climate in Leeds getting any warmer.
Apparently a true transcript of a Bill Clinton / Tony Blair telephone conversation
Fake.
PC
Wouldn't actually surprise me if it was fake - if you're going to call fake though - kindly give us a link to the lowdown fakery.
ta
I did use "apparently" and didn't go to Snopes etc. as I was simply amused by the dialog. That said, I'd have rated Bill as a bit sharper than that and the roles being reversed with some American landmark would've had more inherent credibility
After all - would you believe TB went lurking around possibly in search of Plenary Indulgence at Westminster Cathederal?

St Thérèse answered almost all our prayers.

As a person that came through a Catholic upbringing of sorts - I have come across mid life Catholic converts and for the most part I find them very scary indeed. TB venerating the bones of St Theresa is really up there and doubly so if he was expecting some effect from the mere proximity ...

I went back and had a look at the Bill 'n Tone thread under the tweet .... and some of the real transcripts.... oh my...

If any of the fakers are found to have a Russian connection, should we all jump to the conclusion that they were paid for by a) Obama/Clinton or b) Trump?
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/nov/15/north-korea-sentences-trump-to-death-for-insulting-kim-jong-un
"North Korea’s state media has criticised Donald Trump for insulting leader Kim Jong-Un, saying the US president deserved the death penalty and calling him a coward for cancelling a visit to the inter-Korean border."
I am not sure how this news will be received at COP 23.
I've just joined at the tail end of this thread so apologies if I'm repeating comments made earlier. The BBC has campaigned openly against Trump ever since he won the presidential election. I'm not arguing for or against Trump, I'm just sick of seeing the BBC flout its charter obligations in such a blatant manner. They have been conducting an anti-Brexit campaign all year and more recently they have been trying to get rid of Boris (I would do so myself, but it is unacceptable for the BBC to intervene.). Now they have started campaigning for a second referendum by asking people they interview if they would now vote to remain in such a referendum.
The BBC has a near monopoly and should be told clearly to stop or lose their public service funding. Unfortunately they know that the government has more than enough problems to deal with so they can do what they like. Unfortunately the rest of us have to pay for this whether we like it or not.
Schrodinger's Cat
well put
Some BBC folk - not all - are taking the lack of any sanctions for egregious bias, clearly mendacious misrepresentation and straightforward nastiness as a green light to continue ramping up the self indulgence - pushing what is unequivocally in many cases partisan campaigning and misrepresentation ( or omission) of both domestic events and things further afield.
I hear (no TV!) diligent journalists making good efforts to both portray the events they actually research / witness and elaborating what they don't know being sidelined on low audience timeslots - and then on the big shows they are contradicted by folk who very obviously have their own (contrary) agenda and couldn't give a stuff about what actually happened but are lining up their chums ( or sponsors even... Mr. Harrabin) to talk up said personal agenda.
It is going to get very messy if they don't shape up.
I'd add that almost all UK politicians lack the guts and resources to challenge the BBC - the BBC usually go straight into mobbing mode when any perceived threat to their "independence" is noticed -or- they resort to all the law that the licence fee can buy (see 28gate)
Two things have changed recently. The first is that the BBC has agreed to publish information about complaints when they exceed 100 for a given program. They previously argued that they were not a public service and therefore exempt, which shows the level of integrity, given that they are funded by the taxpayer. The new arrangement starts this week.
Normally, a complaint to the BBC receives a thank you response together with a denial of any wrongdoing. From now on, if you are not satisfied with the response, you can complain to ofcom who have ultimate responsibility and who are responsible for the reform mentioned above. You have to complain to the BBC first.
Both of these changes are small steps towards dealing with the long standing position whereby the BBC was judge and jury about complaints and kept them secret. I urge people who are unhappy about BBC bias to make their voice heard. We can embarrass the Corporation if we act in numbers.
In a lengthy and complex segment, Shepard Smith outlined the original accusations, made in a book by a journalist for rightwing news website Breitbart, and Trump’s using them to boost support on the campaign, and took them apart. He first described the accusations that when Hillary Clinton led the state department in the Obama administration, she approved the sale of a Canadian company, which had large uranium mining interests in Wyoming, to the Russian nuclear agency and in a quid pro quo received $140m in donations to the Clinton Foundation from nine people involved in the business deal.
On Tuesday night, Smith played a clip of Trump repeating the allegations against Clinton.
“That statement is inaccurate in a number of ways,” Smith said. He then went on to describe how the deal needed the approval of a committee formed from the heads of nine federal government agencies, and Barack Obama – because of the national security implications of Russia holding any US uranium interests – under rules written during the Ronald Reagan administration. He pointed out that the state department said Clinton did not intervene to approve the deal and, besides, did not have the power to approve or block the deal.He added that none of the uranium mined in Wyoming by the Canadian company was exported to Russia, and the vast bulk of the donations to the Clinton Foundation were made by a man who had already sold his stake in the uranium company in 2007 – years before the Russian deal went through and about 18 months before Clinton became secretary of state.
Even Fox & Friends know this is fake noooos. Perhaps someone should complain LOL.

" ...... and the vast bulk of the donations to the Clinton Foundation were made by a man who had already sold his stake in the uranium company in 2007 – years before the Russian deal went through and about 18 months before Clinton became secretary of state."

So why did a Russian make a "vast bulk of the donations to the Clinton Foundation "? It was not one single donation, and it confirms that Russian money was received by the Clinton Foundation.
Sinister huh?
The Foundation receives donations from Russia, Saudi, Qatar, Germany, the UK ....... so what?
Amongst other things, 75% of children and >50% of adults globally being treated for HIV/AIDS get their medication at 10% of cost thanks to the Clinton foundation. I doubt they worry about the geographical origin of the money.
"It's unfortunate that it's become this punching bag, this political punching bag,There's a lot of things that are said that are false. If Hillary Clinton wasn't running for president, the Clinton Foundation would be seen as one of the great humanitarian charities of our generation."

I did not have sexual relations with that woman.

It's all part of the acceptable hurly-burly of 'Merkan politics eh? - need I go on? What is at issue here is did the Clintons benefit from using high public office for the purposes of self enrichment? Trump publicly talking up his golf courses is one thing - the accusations leveled at Bill + Hilary are actually on another level.
I personally think given their history and the potential embarrassment to the American system that the Clintons might just again slither out from under - they have so many folk compromised and the ineptness of US investigators also plays in their favour.
What do you make of corporate lawyer FBI director Comey legally gagging an FBI operative and declaring HRC exonerated - before the investigation completed (started even?) and when he'd apparently not read all the reports?
Quoting CNN + The Guardian ? - you need to get out and about a bit more.
Bill Clinton is particularly gifted at weaseling out of deep trouble that would've sunk a lesser mortal - sexual assaults, financial impropriety etc.etc. - and that attracts some grudging admiration from his enemies. This time looks little different.
By the way - WGAF about Twitter really? - some folk must ... those fake followers - where are they? which counties? which IP addresses and where are those IP addresses collecting cookies - what's the point of fake Twitter followers and what constitutes a fake Twitter follower? - asking for a Russian friend.
'I did not have sexual relations with that woman.'
More relevant in 2017 is that Trump faces 24 claims of sexual misconduct spanning 30 years.
“I said very early that the conduct as described should disqualify anyone from serving in public office, and I’ll stand by that,”
-Donald Trump's counselor, Kellyanne Conway,
'I liberated Sarajevo under sniper fire'
Nobody made that claim, you're lying.
'Donna Brazil'
It's Brazile, and you're gonna have to do more than just print a name.
I detect the sound of an empty barrel being scraped.
Trump made a speech
In Seoul, addressing the South Korean parliament largely about North Korea - see / hear it here
The BBC ignores it and puts
on the front page.so the BBC's priorities don't stretch to diffusing an existential crisis that threatens potentially hundreds of thousands of lives on the Korean peninsula via conventional war, Japans cities within proven range of NorK missiles and potentially some bits of the US west coast (targeting tech permitting).
I am simply beyond disgusted.
If we could send all 21.000 staff on a 1 year sabbatical (paid) to North Korea - I'd buy a TV license.
