The pro-hydroxy video featured about 10 white-coated individuals from 'America's Front line Doctors' in a self-described 'white coat summit'. Just like in the toothpaste adverts. However not all of these are actually licenced physicians, indeed this tiny group's numbers are made up of ophthalmologists, Fox News hydroxychloroquine boosters, and not forgetting the entertaing astral sex lady. But nobody who can plausibly claim to be anywhere near any 'front line'

You might think this is not exactly respectful of the health workers putting themselves in harms way and dying as a result.

Linking to this shit and citing 'cancel culture' is absurd on its face. In the video face masks are decried as useless and hydroxychloroquine is claimed to be a cure for COVID-19. Pure quackery. All the social media platforms that have scrubbed this have clear and sensible policies that forbid unproven therapeutic claims. They were written in calmer times to prevent people claiming blueberries cure cancer and the like. In a pandemic, these policies save lives.

All of you doctors that are waiting for data, if six months down the line you actually found out that this data shows that this medication works, how about your patients that have died? No matter what the truth is about the drug, Dr Stella Immanuel is a nutter.

The chart of countries encouraging or discouraging it is highly flawed and useless as evidence. Each country's results have varied based on age groups, general health (esp obesity), accuracy of death reporting, health provision and even when their cases started to rise as medics have got better at treating cases. There may be countries that disprove the graph, eg Brazil or Norway. I don't know for sure about those countries would disagree with the graph but you get the idea - they've cherry picked countries. Some countries will allow people to buy any drug they want, others won't, so banning or not is a different issue.

I see no reason that professional doctors would be discounting the drug other than it genuinely doesn't have that much of an effect and/or the side effects if taken 'early enough' are as risky as the disease. If she's telling the truth (and it's a big if) then maybe she's only seeing people who would have got better anyway? Most people do. The more seriously ill may not end up in her clinic at all. Possibly the proactive administering of an antibiotic has prevented secondary pneumonia as that sort of thing is now heavily discouraged in normal medicine. I'm sure that it costs lives but the theory is that antibiotics become useless from overuse. Given that many developing and developed countries have no restrictions on antibiotics (including when used for animals), 'saving' antibiotics appears to be pointless.

I don't discount the drug but if Stella is the best coming forward now to endorse it...

The learning curve is imho more important than the infection curve, fail early, fail fast, learn and move on.

With Stella and her chums none of the news/information outlets I looked at when it "got noticed" listed them individually and the provenance of the group didn't get explored at all - the "otherness" of Dr. Immanuel though - that went impressively viral. Who organised the presser / video is at least as important as the content.

I like to think I know a bit about West Africa - putting Stella out front without working to a tight script - wow - that's a recipe for self harm.
