Discussion > President Trump

Top of any list must be his literally lethal response to the virus. The first duty of any leader is to keep his people safe and he totally failed them. He's on tape as saying it was worse than the most severe flu, at the time telling the American public that it was milder, months were lost while he ignored scientific advice, lied about case numbers and attempted to downplay the pandemic, scared of the impact on the economy and the stock market. His much-vaunted China travel 'ban' was useless, so porous that 47,000 people entered in the months after it was imposed - and in any case more infected people came in via Europe, before he made a complete horlicks of imposing travel restrictions there.

The arrogance and incompetence continue, his and his followers' macho resistance to sensible mitigation measures just produced the Rose Garden superspreader event, and 34 people associated with the White House are now COVID positive.

Comparisons with the likes of Korea and New Zealand may not be entirely fair, but German Lopez did an apples-apples comparison with similar countries:

If the US had the same death rate as :

The European Union overall, nearly 84,000 Americans wouldn’t have died from Covid-19
Canada, nearly 109,000 Americans wouldn’t have died from Covid-19.
Germany, more than 152,000 Americans wouldn’t have died from Covid-19.
Australia, more than 179,000 Americans wouldn’t have died from Covid-19.
Japan, more than 185,000 Americans wouldn’t have died from Covid-19.

The list would continue on to environmental and climate vandalism, (while breaking his promises), degrading the office, degrading women, inflaming racial divisions and tensions, legitimising white supremacist groups, destroying the country's international standing, enriching the rich and further disempowering and depriving the already powerless and deprived.

I'll not waste my time, like when pointing out to GC that the move to energy sufficiency began under Obama: totally ignored.
Genuine answer.
Oct 10, 2020 at 12:34 PM AK

Incorrect. Obama moved the US further into energy deficiency. Trump has gone for self sufficiency. Big difference.

GC suggest you consult your preferred information source. Wikipedia says "The US's imports of foreign oil fell to 36 percent in 2013 (during the Barack Obama administration), down from a high of 60 percent in 2006 (during the George W. Bush administration)." This trend was continued during Trump's administration, but the USA still imports oil from Canada and Mexico.
Furthermore, I read in that esteemed newspaper The Guardian last week that the decline in US coal production has been greater under Trump than during Obama's second term. So much for promises to the rust-belt states..

Will she be sharing a platform with Joe & Kamala?

So all that is needed is to reopen coal mines, and keep providing home sourced, cheap reliable energy, along with more fracking should the price of oil rise again.

The US is no longer at the mercy of OPEC. The US does not need to get involved in OPEC disputes

Meanwhile, the Chinese are "acquiring" the oil they need from dubious sources and continue their search and exploration of the South China Sea. I don't think they will feel obliged to comply with OPEC attempts to fix prices by controlling supplies.

The hypocrisy of the EU in pushing ahead with acquiring Russian oil and gas has resulted from the failure of Germany's Energiewinde. US Democrats want to go even more stupid with Green New Deals.

The Russians and Chinese continue to benefit from US Democrat and Green Blob corruption.

Presumably you are happy for Obama's corrupted White House to be pursuing political opponents through the Courts on fabricated evidence.

Having worked for Big Oil and challenged the Mann/Jones approved history of climate, are you satisfied that you remain immune from malicious prosecution by corrupted liars?

Oct 11, 2020 at 12:56 AM | Unregistered Commentergolf charlie

Golf Charly. Suggest you do a little more research before you spout off about fracked oil and gas and read up upon the horrendous real environmental costs of producing and using open-cast coal. Find out why dozens of small energy companies went bust when the oil price plummeted and why big oil has mostly avoided getting involved in fracked gas. Trump did his best to tear down environmental law that dealt with interstate pollution affecting coal production, but had no way of affecting pollution within states. Coal is suffering the same fate in the US that it did in Britain. Over the years coal became more and more limited in its use as different users switched to different fuels until only one was left, and you know what happened (and is still happening) to that [and good riddance]. There is only a declining market for coal. When it comes to coal promotion, Trump is a busted flush.

GolfCharlie. I worked for companies that, at best could be described as moderate (sized) oil, and I never really challenged the Mann/Jones view of history. All I did was to introduce my students to alternate facts and interpretations about climate and leave them to make up their own minds. So, after all this time, I feel reasonably safe from any climate police. I certainly was not immune to malicious lies from denizens of the Tyndall Centre during my last few years at UEA.

Can you inform me as to how, exactly, your questions fit into a discussion, allegedly, upon Trump?

Rats and sinking ships?
Sunday Times reports Johnson and his crew making overtures to Jo Biden and the Democrats because they no longer believe Trump can win election. Pity about Boris's willingness to break international law, especially one much beholden to those interfering American busybodies,

Yes, it is called supply and demand economics. The Green Blob have been manipulating supply and demand to favour their own pockets and politics. Carbon taxes and credits have become the scam of the century. The EU is now in a panic, so is the UK. The US is getting its act together and China and Russia are laughing.

Who suffers most? The poor. This is a great victory for socialists in the US and EU.

Supply and demand economics has also applied to "reports" about the risks to the environment. It is unreliable due to corruption of the science and how it is funded. Peter Ridd was honest, so he was fired, but lying Climate Scientists get pay rises, awards and endorsements by President Obama.

I am someone raised with an awareness of rural and marine conservation. All I see now is corrupt duplicity.

You still avoid the fact that lying Democrats and Climate Scientists fabricated fake stories about Trump. How do you know which ones are true?

GC. Yet another attack flung at me without any foundation whatsoever, coupled with yet more rants against climate scientists and unanswered questions. You are growing ever closer to your POTUS idol.

because they no longer believe Trump can win election

Not impossible, but it has become harder since the debate. That did not play well for Team Trump, nor did his diagnosis. Nate Silver's model now has Biden winning 86 times out of a hundred and the punters are increasingly backing the challenger.

You'd be a mug to make a firm prediction after last time - Trump is only really interested in appealing to his base and it is possible the pollsters have underestimated the size of the Army for Trump.

And yet….

If on Election Day, people are angry, and they’ve given up hope and are depressed—which is what Pelosi and Schumer want them to be—I think it could be a terrible election, it could be a bloodbath of Watergate proportions.

German journalist (public broadcasting) in D.C. says while he isn't eligible to vote in the U.S., he has received 3 mail-in ballots to his Washington address: 1 for previous tenant who moved out 5 years ago, 1 for landlord living in Puerto Rico, 1 for landlord's deceased husband.

Top of the list of priorities for Climate Scientists has been to steal from the poor, taxpayers and anyone who is honest. That is why they support the EU and US Democrats.

Tomo - so what? If said journalist attempted to vote using those ballots he would fail signature verification, be charged with Voter Impersonation and be hit with a fine of up to $10,000. Hardly worth the risk for one vote.

More Americans are hit by lightning than commit electoral fraud, it is a non-problem.

Related - I see the Project Veritas Ballot Harvesting 'bombshell' has predictably fallen even further apart.

Oct 11, 2020 at 2:52 PM AK"

I do not idolise any POTUS or Politician. I have contempt for corruption and those that create miscarriages of justice.
Unfortunately, that is what Climate Science has always been about, and Democrats have adopted the same methodology.

Climate Scientists created the US Rust Belt, and removed the foundations of Labour’s Red Wall in the UK. Introducing Corbyn to UK politics sealed the fate of Labour, Von der Leyen is doing the same for the EU. The US Electorate should have a choice, but US Democrats and Climate Scientists want to preserve their swamp.

Corruption and fraud with other people's money is still not a problem for Climate Scientists, as Mann keeps proving, supported by professional liars such as Hockey Teamsters including the International Phil Clarke Collective.

As Trump's latest self-aggrandising COVD tweet is tagged by Twitter for 'spreading misleading and potentially harmful information' a Cornell University study has concluded that the 45th President of the United States and globally, the single largest driver of misinformation around Covid are one and the same person.

I'll just leave that there. Choose wisely.
