Discussion > Yorkshire Post's war on fracking

Yorkshire Post reporter tweets about his frontpage story
Singh @singharj
Tories could lose election due to fracking, says
@Lee4NED
- 200 seats with licenses, half marginal
- Must be done at scale to make it a success, but already generates big opposition
- So if it goes ahead at scale, Tories could pay at the ballot box

Lee Rowley @Lee4NED
= Conservative Member of Parliament for North East Derbyshire
.@Lee4NED said this
“I’m an ex-oil and gas analysis, and yet I still stand here and say fracking is not the way.”
& previously
"I want to place on record my complete and absolute opposition to exploratory drilling which may lead to fracking within the N Derbyshire Constituency"

Times : Anti-fracking campaigner taunts mother over suicide

\\ I saw this video on line and it was absolutely heart breaking. Ms Rothery is the 'go to' anti fracking campaigner used by the media, she always claims she is just a grandmother protecting her children and grandchildren. You would have expected compassion for Ms Lewis whose daughter had taken her own life in such tragic circumstances. No where do I hear any other protesters reprimand Ms Rothery for her verbal attack on Ms Lewis. Ms Lewis was abused in such a vile manner and with such hatred. If you watch the video you also hear another female stood next to Ms Rothery immediately say 'You are a disgusting Tory' to Ms Lewis. There lies the crux, the main anti fracking campaigners are anti establishment, anti government and anti Conservative.
Ms Rothery has a long history of protesting and was heavily involved in the 2011 Occupy London protest outside St Pauls. As for these women from Lancashire going around dressed in white claiming they are the 'suffragettes' of our era, they are an embarrassment, a disappointment and let down the decent females in the world who do have real compassion for their fellow humans. Energy Minister, Claire Perry recently called some of the protesters a 'travelling circus'. These women were the circus freak show & clowns when they were protesting outside the Conservative conference in Birmingham.
The anti fracking activists descend into local communities where shale gas is topical and then claim to represent the local residents. The locals are silenced with abuse and threats if they object to the travelling circus. One day the media will cover the real story about the terrible situation that is unfolding in rural communities, the lies by the antis and the tactics they use claiming to be local 'grass roots groups'.
The Seeds for Change mantra which they follow is political and along with the Greens, Labour and Lib Dem they all use fracking as a weapon to try and gain power. Fracking has never killed anyone but the activists are trying to kill democracy //

the athletes arguments seems to be 'we do watersports and we don't that water contaminated.

Fracking wellheads are already BANNED in UK national parks.
So why is the YP talking as if wells are allowed ?

Ah what could happen is that once well are drilled way deeper than the water table and say 1.5Km down horizontal drilling could come under a National Park.
Yes why not ? that is not going to cause any difference in the actual park itself.

But now YP has an argument : such wellheads outside the park could harm the National Parks reputation.
... doh, only if activists stir up disinformation.

https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/fracking-sentiment-risks-damaging-reputation-of-north-york-moors-national-park-boss-says-1-9379443

Isn't it the nasty anti-fracking camps outside the Park at Kirby Musperton that harm the Park more ?
Ah I see that is close to what the NP director actually said
\\ Jim Bailey, chairman of the North York Moors National Park, said the emotive debate around fracking in the national park has raised the potential for damage to the designated area's 'brand'. //

a new development : I see that page has NO comment facility..

The set up trick again ?
where they print ONE non-limob letter
.. and then print 5 letters from libmob complaining about it.

Today Peter Horton asks why Leeds council assumes all air pollution is caused by traffic, as it intends to use all of its £13m anti-airpollution grant that way.
.. and do nothing about tains/ log burning etc.

and #2 Is putting in even more speed bumps.

Tuesday : half page advert like article with Conservative MEP John Procter
"Hydrogen powering our cars could be answer to city pollution"

It claims iron gas mains are being replaced with plastic sobthey can carry hydrogen without it escaping.
Im not sure that is practical. H atom is so small it easily escapes.. and natural gas can be piped and then split on site with electricity surely.

What's with the "Doh"? You are reporting to us what you alone see in your local paper. Unless you tell us, we cannot judge for sure if a letter is stupid, ironic or serious.

colin smith, some of them are visible for miles and miles, so people can see them not working, as they are forced to pay the subsidies, rain or shine, wind or no wind.

Thursday
- lonng letter from Chris Broome ( Sheffield Climate Allnce)
blah blah
... missing context : Today the Sheffield to Rotherham tram line opened, they ran it over existing rail bridges, and miscalculated cost of the line/bridge repairs so budget rose from £15m to £75m

call it a 10 year programme that's £7.5m/year = about £20K per day to pay back that track only
I bet it doesn't even get to an average of 5,000 journeys per day

FakeNews on pg 8 Yorkshire Post - 300,000 sign petition opposing fast track for fracking proposals
" HUNDREDS OF thousands of people have signed a petition opposing proposals to fast-track fracking through the planning system, .."

But when I check it says "199,698 of 200,000 signatures"
https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/don-t-fast-track-fracking
So what's going on ?

From Drill or Drop
\\ *Three* petitions with a *total* of 300,000+ signatures were handed in this morning to the government, opposing its plans to fast-track fracking decisions in England //
The YP article never mentions the 300K is a composite of 3 petitions. It continually says "the petition"

Doh you can't just add up 3 petitions
... cos each activist and their dog has signed each position !

pseudo-Greenism is all about PR not truth
