Discussion > Yorkshire Post's war on fracking
Ah @MJ's comment above is the one he said he put in the wrong thread.
======================================================
Has Labour always said it will ban fracking ?
In todays YP war on fracking they give one third of a page over to Shadow Long Bailey the Shadow BEIS Minister
Labour will ban fracking in green energy revolution. This is how
BBC/ITV are quite content to spin a non-fracking protest up
On their local news on a minor planning decision on the Wressle NON-fracking drill site their footage featured "Say No to Fracking Banners"
This BBC report I quote seems like a cutNpaste job from activists
I use the local shop and many people there don't call the local councillors "heroes" for caving in to the anti-maths-grannny mob (Putin's little helpers)

Listen: Oil firm denied further time at well site
Councillors have been described as "local heroes" after denying an oil firm more time to stay at a well site in North Lincolnshire.
Egdon Resources submitted the plan to extend their time at the site in Wressle ahead of controversial plans to drill for oil at the well but according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service members of North Lincolnshire Council's planning committee unanimously turned down the extension application, despite a further proposal already being submitted.
Egdon have lodged the proposals for a third time to continue drilling at the site following the council twice rejecting the plans but local campaigner Melanie Dale says they'll continue to fight Egdon Resources at Wressle: //

"Governments are not listening to scientists.
They tell us that once we pass the tipping point we will have runaway climate change, and the earth will migrate to a temperature of +5 degrees.
At 5 degrees, we now refer to a map promulgated by Nasa – public information, if you draw a line level round the world at a point level with Paris, everything below that line is uninhabitable.
That means that by the end of this century there’ll only be 1 billion people left.
We don’t know if we’re passed the tipping point, all we know is we’re very close to it. It will all be very clear within the space of a generation.
The problem is Rot$ which is the name I give to the Rotten Financial System – monopoly capitalism.
It’s the cause of climate change, and the financial crisis, and the solution is the One World Economy which is founded on the moral that what nature gives us free cannot be privately owned: not land, not airwaves, not underground. That this should take the form of rent which is paid into the public purse, one tax only (no income tax).
Many economists are now moving towards this shift. But there isn’t time.
But there is a new hope, scientists are on the march, they have a plan to re-wild the world and this can happen so quickly, within the space of a human generation.
Remember this timespan. It could be back to what it was 100, 200 years ago and this would give us time to transfer to a new economic system."
Tuesday letters : entire letter
\\ From: Jarvis Browning,
I THINK Lorraine Allanson’s view on fracking is totally misguided (The Yorkshire Post, August 10).
It is not a clean gas, to burn or extract out of the ground, unlike conventional gas.//
Nope it is exactly like conventional gas
... It's just anti-frackers are trying to demonise it

Are policies placed by a democratically elected government a " form of bullying" ?
Is refusing the popular thing like the death penalty a "iform of bullying" ?
Is theimposition of solar and wind farms a a " form of bullying" ?
Governments impose on locals for the national good all the time
Governments impose on locals WHAT THEY PERCEIVE TO BE for the national good all the time
There, fixed it for you.
So Yorkshire Post are you going to give us any pro fracking news today ?
Fracking will be kiss of death for rural Yorkshire, and not a magic wand for the economy by Jules Marley regional chair of CPRE
(half a broadsheet page)
The webpage seems to begin with an anti-fracking video only 36s long
Ah no it's a trailer for "Fracking all this week in the Yorkshire Post "
commenters point out the article's flaws eg ..she goes on about National Parks whereas fracking is not allowed there anyway.

as it depends on Greens
Doncaster Council ban fracking
- 40 councillors voted in favour and four abstained. Agreement from both Labour, Conservatives and Mexborough First councillors
No one has ever proposed to frack in Doncaster anyway.
Stewgreen: odd, how so many in and around Doncaster protested against the closure of the local manual fracking, that put so many in a highly dangerous environment, with many dire consequences on their long-term well-being. Now, they are going to protest against the possibility of a similar industry, though far safer, than the one they wanted to preserve. Stoopid, or what!?
Front page of Today's Yorkshire Post.

A long anti-fracking letter from John Plummer.

I did have some experience in journalism including a short spell as an editor on a small local paper.
While rule one was not actively to offend your advertisers and rule two was not without very good reason to offend your readers, rule three was (in our company) to give the local news as factually as we were able and on contentious issues like fracking (which wasn’t itself relevant in those days) we would have let neither side get away with bland generalisations.
The slant of our editorials tended to be marginally right of centre because that was where our readership was. Which is not to say we didn’t try to make them sit up and think occasionally — good for a lively Letters column the following week.
But that was parish pump journalism. Higher up the greasy pole it has become increasingly the case that many newspapers cannot even be relied on to be objective in their news reporting and appear to employing bots who simply add their names to press releases. On-line versions are unremittingly tabloid. Jerry Westerby in Le Carré’s “Tinker, Tailor ...” referred to the paper he worked for as “the comic”. Very prescient!
