Was Burisma paying Hunter Biden in an attempt to influence his father? Yes. Did Hunter deliver that influence? No. Biden did the opposite of what Burisma wanted.

The most important new claim in the email trove obtained by the Post is that “Hunter Biden introduced his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, to a top executive at a Ukrainian energy firm.” Biden’s campaign says a review of Biden’s schedule from this time shows the meeting never occurred, and that the Post never even asked Biden about this allegation before printing it.

Now, what about the Delaware computer-shop origin story? The best thing you can say is that this account is not physically impossible, in that it does not violate any laws of nature or require any discontinuity in the space-time continuum. It is not, however, a very plausible account.

To begin with, if you were a computer-repair shop in Delaware, and you had a Biden-owned computer that you repaired but weren’t paid for, why would your first step be to reach out to Rudy Giuliani’s attorney? Why wouldn’t you go to the Bidens — who are fairly well known and easy to find in Delaware — to get paid? And why would the FBI even be allowed to investigate this computer without a search warrant?

It's good to be sceptical, but the computer repair shop owner has already been identified and, it seems, the FBI took posession of the laptop in December 2019. The owner admits to making a copy and supplying it to Giuliani's lawyer. Whether this was before or after the FBI getting it is not clear. Nevertheless, if the timing of FBI getting access is true, this raises serious questions about why they did not reveal it when Trump was being impeached. A lot more to come, I suspect.

The laptop story has several elements to it that are very dodgy but it doesn't necessarly mean the contents isn't legit. Was the laptop stolen and sent to the repair shop to get it ready for resale? Was it stolen deliberately to embarass Biden? Was the contents real (stolen online say) but the laptop it sat on a clone? What was supposedly wrong with the machine dropped off, software or hardware? Who dropped it off? I doubt that it was Biden's son but it might have been an unwitting employee or friend. You'd think that people would know that machines were vulnerable to nosy repair people but a lot of child porn viewers are caught that way. Unless a machine is specially cleaned, traces of deleted stuff remains. What would Biden's son do if he realised it had been stolen/sent to be repaired with all that stuff? Pretend it was fake?

As for the FBI, I'm not sure what the US rules are about searching people's laptops. They may be still waiting for a warrent. They may have an undercover investigation that has just been blown. Are the Russians or the Chinese involved? All I know is that if it was Trumps's son or daughter it would be run every 20 minutes on the left wing media.

The Post story trumpeted a "smoking-gun email" allegedly showing Hunter Biden had arranged for a meeting in 2015 between his father and an adviser to the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company. Hunter Biden was a member of the board.

A photo of the alleged email published by the Post shows it was written by Vadym Pozharskyi, the Burisma adviser, and reads, in part: "thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent [sic] some time together." The Post presents this line as evidence that Pozharskyi met with Joe Biden, who was spearheading the Obama administration's policy toward Ukraine. If true, it could contradict Biden's assertions that he "never discussed" his son's foreign business interests with him.

But a spokesman for the Biden campaign said a review of Biden's schedule for the period in question showed no such meeting with Pozharskyi, and several of Biden's top advisers who worked closely with him on Ukraine policy have publicly said they've never heard of him. While they did not rule out the possibility that Biden and Pozharskyi interacted briefly on the sidelines of an event, they said a formal meeting did not happen.

"We have reviewed Joe Biden's official schedules from the time and no meeting, as alleged by the New York Post, ever took place," said Andrew Bates, a Biden campaign spokesman.
