Discussion > President Trump

Not everyone wants to follow you down the Fox/Breitbart/American Stinker/Treehouse rabbithole of lies, Charley.

It is public knowledge that Hunter hit the sex 'n' drugs 'n' rock and roll lifestyle harder than he should. So what? His job with Burisma was probably a sinecure, with the aim of securing access to his father. That didn't work out - it's a matter of record that Joe Biden's only involvement with Burisma was working with international authorities to fire a corrupt Ukrainian prosecutor who had failed to investigate Burisma for them.

Hunter is hardly the first child of a prominent politician to try and monetise his genealogy, (Ivanka Trump sausage casing anyone?).

But at the risk of repetition, Hunter is not standing, Joe is. Apparently the dirtiest dirt Team Trump can dig up is a single email , in poor English, that may be about a meeting between Biden senior and a Burisma board advisor. There's no evidence the meeting actually ever happened and Team Biden are clear that it did not.

Senators Ron Johnson and Chuck Grassley spent many months and thousands of taxpayers dollars digging for dirt on the Biden's Ukrainian interests and came up empty:-

the extent to which Hunter Biden’s role on Burisma’s board affected U.S. policy toward Ukraine is not clear

(Well not quite empty, they claimed Hunter received $millions from the wife of a former Russian mayor. He did not)

So what is the substance behind the Biden 'manure'? Please, no hearsay, insinuation, 'interpretations' or falsehoods.

Bottomline if it was Trump's son that had done these amazingly lucrative deals with Buruma and China
the media would be all it over 24/7 for weeks

You seem to have misundersood. I was interested in hard evidence, I specifically disbarred 'hearsay, insinuation, 'interpretations' or falsehoods.'

So, nine years ago, an associate of Hunter Biden helped facilitate a meeting at the White House for a delegation of Chinese businessmen. Other than being cc-ed on some emails there's no direct evidence that Biden himself assisted, in fact the only times his name is mentioned underline that he was not involved - 'travelling in UAE', 'couldn't confirm this with Hunter'.

And, as ever with ZH the piece is written under a pseudonym.

Really, that's it?

Thought not.

RE: https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2020/10/16/before-biden-did-ukraine-there-was-iraq-and-serbia/

When a troublesome Ukrainian prosecutor named Viktor Shokin seemed to be taking too much interest in Burisma, Papa Joe came to the rescue, openly threatening the western-dependent politicians installed after Ukraine’s 2014 color revolution with withholding of a billion dollars in U.S. aid until Shokin, whom Joe unironically alleged to be “corrupt,” got the heave-ho. As Tucker Carlson nails it, Shokin’s ouster followed a direct request from Burisma’s Clinton-connected PR firm, Blue Star Strategies, to Hunter to lobby his dad to get Shokin off their back. Joe did just what was asked.

This is a lie. The investigation into Burisma concerned events that happened before Biden joined the company and had in any case been shelved years before Shokin was removed (by Parliamentary vote). His sacking came after pressure from the US, EU, World Bank and the IMF who saw his lack of diligence in prosecuting corruption as corrupt in itself.

I said no falsehoods, remember?

It is clearly unethical to expose how these grifters profit from being in public office.

Oct 18, 2020 at 11:33 AM | Unregistered CommenterCharly

It is clearly unethical to expose how these grifters profit from being in public office.

Do let me know when that actually happens.

Do you suppose it would be worth Ivanka trademarking 'Ivanka Trump Nursing Homes' if her last name was Smith? Would the Trump University and the Trump Charitable Foundation (both now closed down for fraud, naturally) have got off the ground without the T word?

Some unkind souls are even saying The Trump Presidency Is One Long Grift without even venturing into the twilight world of right wingnut conspiracy theories and dubiously-sourced private emails.

I suspect the Biden camp is happy to bandy allegations about Ukraine as most of the Ukranian dodgy money came from the US and EU and the distribution of funds is exceeding murky... and that absolute attribution is challenging at best.

China on the other hand seems to present a whole can of worms that if up-ended might well burn down a large section of the Democratic Party.

Time to shift focus.

No doubt the resident Obermannista will be on to that soon enough.

How is the great Minnesota Ballot Harvesting scandal coming along? ;-)

Oct 18, 2020 at 1:18 PM | Unregistered CommenterPhil Clarke

"In and of itself there is no problem at all with mainstream news media applying high evidentiary standards to its reporting and making sure readers are aware when political manipulators could be pulling the wool over their eyes. In and of itself this would be a good thing. The problem is that all this emphasis on verification and truth only comes up when it is politically convenient for these plutocratic media outlets, because only favoring truth when it’s convenient is the same as lying constantly."

China ... ya reckon that's it?

tsk...

Both GOP nabobs and the Democrats have been compromised by the CCP - when you understand that every foreign transaction over ca. US$400 value has to be processed through "official channels" the extents of the fine grained control over influence peddlers from the US should become apparent.

As far as Minnesota ballot harvesting is concerned I don't see Omar Jamal parading his innocence and virtue on CNN, CNBC et al and suing for defamation - what gives?

Oct 18, 2020 at 1:41 PM | Registered Commentertomo

"This is surely the first time, at least in recent memory, that we have ever seen such a broad consensus within the mass media that it is the civic duty of news reporters to try and influence the outcome of a presidential general election by withholding negative news coverage for one candidate. There was a lot of fascinated hatred for Trump in 2016, but people still reported on Hillary Clinton’s various scandals and didn’t attack one another for doing so. In 2020 that has changed, and mainstream news reporters have now largely coalesced along the doctrine that they must avoid any reporting which might be detrimental to the Biden campaign."
