Tuesday - "Research could call fracking's environmental claims into doubt -
· The ENVIRONMENTAL case for fracking may need to be revaulated, York scientists have said, after research revealed global levels of harmful hydrocarbons in the atmosphere have been underestimated by 50%"
.. Its the normal BS contradictions : One minute the Greenblob shout the science is settled, next minute they say they underestimated something by 50%
Their argument is about ethane/methane leaks mixing with NOx from cars to make ozone.
They fail to set the context that ozone at low altitude is a health hazard, whilst at a high level its a good thing.
#1 there are many natural sources of methane leaks
#2 you are not fracking at busy traffic junctions, so the methane is well dispersed upwards before it meets NOx.
#3 The article claims ozone in countryside harms crops ...first I've heard of this.
Seems the article is again PR not science.

Gwen. We had not appreciated that your country bumkin status came with such risks. The thought of you spread over your beloved countryside because of excessive fermentation in your closet had never surfaced. Does your yott have a composting toilet if the need overtakes you on your watery escapades, or have you gone all modern and indulge yourself chemically?

Good point GC since all decaying organic matter like compost gives off methane, its a bit rich to assert it harms crops.

Supertroll, us country bumpkins don't have mains drains. Yotts tend to have holding tanks. Both require care and maintenance, because "getting your own back", can have unfortunate consequences.
Aerobic was a popular rural concept, long before Jane Fonda's first video.
I don't know if a yacht has ever been sunk by a holding tank explosion, but emergency evacuation is normally necessary.

I get the distinct feeling that they will talk anything up to get funding - something that's abundantly obvious after a short wander through other departmental research.
As an aside I see that report author Lucy Carpenter's home page displays an endorsement by The Guardian for being the 2nd ranked chemistry department in the UK.

Ah, yes. Why frack, when there are so many alternatives that are available?
(Have you any idea how difficult it is to find a photo of a producing fracked well? It is almost as if no-one is interested in the end result, only the mayhem in its installation. Why do we see so few pictures of the unsightly building site during the construction of now-iconic buildings compared with the completed landmark? Now, THAT is a rhetorical question!)

Ah, yes. The Yorkshire Post. They have obviously had an irony by-pass, as they publish on-line stories threatening the doom of high prices caused by a shortage of gas (“Jayne Dowle: A cold sense of fear as heating bills mount up”), and opinions about the demon of fracking (“YP Letters: Theresa May fails to mention the ill effects of fracking” from Christopher Pickles, Gilling East). Very much a case of damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

You do not need to go that far south to see what impact fracking has on the countryside – what about the largest land-based oil field in Europe, where fracking has been exercised for over 30 years: Wytch Farm?
The RSPB has a few fracked sites on their reserves, too, but odd how no-one seems to be interested in those, eh?

Third Energy had been expected to have started by Christmas 2017 in KirkbyM but seems with corp moving equipment off site ..it's been delayed again.
Does seem pathetic : Why can we not just get on with something that has been done a million times in the states already.
