Do bird-mincing wind turbines pay an Environmental Tax?

Friday : 1 short pro fracking letter
2 long anti fracking letters , both claiming Third Energy is financially weak so the setup should have never started.
..Then shouting it's backed by Barclay's Bank
That rather contradicts their first point.

Todays letters 2 non-antifracking
#2 Asked if the antifrackers abandoned camp would be restored and lamented that the pallets could habeen used for new local affordable homes.
#1 long letter complaining that fracking sites are misrepresented as industrialisation when from what he's seen in the States all they are are pipes sticking out the ground.

He then blew it by claiming WRONGKY that plastic is not made from gas.

Tuesday letter : from Christine Dakar

big article : Planning inspector says there's no justification for North Yorks Councils rule tht a fracking site cannot be within 500m of a fracking site

Once a wells set up it's practically invisible hence in California oil/gas wells can be quite close to buildings

Friday :YP's main leader
'Gas Company should pay policing costs"
... emm that's not it works
.. Society pays the costs of policing CorbyThugs
.. It is not upto the targeted businesses to pay.

.. If there is a demo against grooming gangs , the police don't bill the local kebab shop owners.

stewgreen, I have not seen the article you refer to, but ...... if there is a demonstration against the Yorkshire Post concerning any of their articles, or policies, whether correct or incorrect, the Yorkshire Post is accepting responsibility for the cost of Policing any demonstrations, even if incited into violence by those from elsewhere, and any damage caused by the demonstrators. Yes? No? !?!

Monday "Government keeps Fracking Report Secret"
says some info released under FOI implied fracking rigs would be less numerous than predicted

Ah it quotes Greenpeace Journalism Unit ie it was probably written by them

It's also the YP's leader article

My understanding was that the hydrocarbon-bearing Bowland shales are actually an exceptionally thick geological formation, compared to many that are fracked elsewhere. OK, I have no technical expertise in the matter, but presumably, if they can be fracked successfully, this would mean that far more deposits can be accessed from just one well-head, hence a relatively small surface footprint for the industry?

Saturday ..hmmm the letters have ben sparser this week
Today a rather long letter "The proponents repeat their same old tired arguments" (like you do when you are right"
"Yet the evidence against it continues to mount" ( really, you still don't have any bodies to show us)
It's signed Alice C.ourvoisier whos a lecturer in the Electronic Eng dept at York U, although she makes everything in her blog about fracking
..It seems she's also done sea kayaking up Norway's coast towards the Arctic Circle

one of her previous letters

Saturday 14th , front page story North Yorkshire planning inspector set to make rule banning fracking within 500m of a home.

Blanket Ban ? That's ridiculous.. People will simply make houses next to fracking sites to stop them.

Does the Planning Inspector have a minimum safe distance to separate dangerous wind turbines from houses?

.. Claim its like cigarette companies sponsoring sport.
Ineos is a conglomerate with many businesses, all legal.

Another letter from Kate Smith of Pickering
"Climate Change Clock is Ticking ...blah blah ...Blue Planet
..there are many climate-friendly alternatives to fracking"

Apr 28, 2018 at 12:57 PM | Registered Commenterstewgreen

Letter from Simon Bowens FoE Leeds

Should anyone want to leave God's own county for warmer climes*, it is possible to travel to France by electrified rail.
They are increasingly powered by renewables. Just a quick hop from Leeds to London, and then onto the electrically powered Eurostar to France where the level of renewables is twice** that of fossil fuels – and they've banned fracking.

Lorraine Allanson is, however, right and I quite agree: as a society we are too dependent on fossil fuels.
This addiction is massively damaging to the planet and right now it's nigh-on impossible to avoid using fossil fuels altogether. he point, however, is not just to shrug our shoulders and accept that but to reduce our dependency to minimise the danger of runaway climate change .....

** I bet that is wrong, and he is including NUCLEAR as a renewable

Today's Letter : "Be wary of health risks linked with fracking"
Christine Daker, Abelton Grove, Haxby, York.
https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/opinion/yp-letters-be-wary-of-health-risks-linked-with-fracking-1-9153298

Blah blah blah
"I would also like to point out that it may be many years before serious health and environmental issues comes to light. My father worked with asbestos which, at the time, was viewed to be safe. Sadly, many years later, the truth was learned and many of my father’s work colleagues died of asbestosis. The same could be said of cigarette smoking. The first pack of 20 is unlikely to give you lung cancer. Does that mean we should assume there are no health risks to smoking and, therefore, encourage the whole population to take up the habit?
If this happened with fracking, it will be a case of closing the stable door when the horse has well and truly bolted."

Yawn, That's the Precautionary Principle Fallacy ... ie don't EVER do anything , cos it COULD be harmful

Context : AFAIK some of the existing nodding donkey oil extraction wells are within 500m of houses.
I know one in Gainsborough that is tucked in as two roads meet each other at 45 degrees and an academy/sports ground is the other side of a sizable fence buffer ..houses are just about within 500m.
Likewise a dormant nonfrack well is in a forest around here also within 300m of the first house probably.

today's YP fontpage about other councils copying North Yorkshire Council's 500m from houses to frack rule, 500m buffer zone.
Rule is not yet approved by Government planning inspector.
They quote Clive Betts saying NYC is "brave" and asking IF other councils were consulting.

The thing is : hard fast rules, are away to block approval,
...before you know it, someone will park a caravan within each fracking site buffer and claim its their home. And loads of places have abandoned farm houses and cottages which could be exploited.

And should the same rule apply to solar/wind biomass operations ? Why not ?
A fracking site would be invisible once done, with a risk of a methane leak I suppose, but you'd use auto shut off tech.

It's clear to me that the biggest environmental threat associated with a fracking site, is the protest camp.

There is, or was, a great website which showed many fracked well-heads in urban locations in deepest Los Angeles. They were generally about as obtrusive as an ordinary building or urban car park. I can't find it right now, but there are similar such ones to be found on the web.

Pro fracking letter
says that since fossil fuels are needed to build wind/solar etc.you can't just keep down shutting old oil/gas and then not opening ant new ones.

Guess letter will provole 10 anti-fracking letters next week
