Should anyone want to leave God's own county for warmer climes*, it is possible to travel to France by electrified rail.
They are increasingly powered by renewables. Just a quick hop from Leeds to London, and then onto the electrically powered Eurostar to France where the level of renewables is twice** that of fossil fuels – and they've banned fracking.

Lorraine Allanson is, however, right and I quite agree: as a society we are too dependent on fossil fuels.
This addiction is massively damaging to the planet and right now it's nigh-on impossible to avoid using fossil fuels altogether. he point, however, is not just to shrug our shoulders and accept that but to reduce our dependency to minimise the danger of runaway climate change .....

Yawn, That's the Precautionary Principle Fallacy ... ie don't EVER do anything , cos it COULD be harmful

Context : AFAIK some of the existing nodding donkey oil extraction wells are within 500m of houses.
I know one in Gainsborough that is tucked in as two roads meet each other at 45 degrees and an academy/sports ground is the other side of a sizable fence buffer ..houses are just about within 500m.
Likewise a dormant nonfrack well is in a forest around here also within 300m of the first house probably.

today's YP fontpage about other councils copying North Yorkshire Council's 500m from houses to frack rule, 500m buffer zone.
Rule is not yet approved by Government planning inspector.
They quote Clive Betts saying NYC is "brave" and asking IF other councils were consulting.

The thing is : hard fast rules, are away to block approval,
...before you know it, someone will park a caravan within each fracking site buffer and claim its their home. And loads of places have abandoned farm houses and cottages which could be exploited.

And should the same rule apply to solar/wind biomass operations ? Why not ?
A fracking site would be invisible once done, with a risk of a methane leak I suppose, but you'd use auto shut off tech.

It's clear to me that the biggest environmental threat associated with a fracking site, is the protest camp.
